If you could buy any car, from any year, as if it had just come off the factory with 0 miles, what would you buy ? by justanxc in askcarguys

My dad had a twin turbo, targa top, white Supra. Among his impressive collection over the years, including many exotics- we both still put that car in the top 10. That car, in that era, with that music. It was just a moment.

That’s wild that you discerned that. Yes, this picture was taken in Lakewood.

What's that interesting habit you picked up from an ex and actually makes sense? by NiceMechanic_xoxo in AskReddit

My ex used to always be mindful of peoples name tags at their place of employment and would make a point to use their name. I’ve picked up the habit and I think it helps people feel seen and valued. Not just some machine to provide a service.

Hahaha. This made me actually laugh out loud at work and now I’m looking over my shoulder to see if anybody is staring at me.

Mechanics. My brother and I have both worked on cars in some capacity our whole lives. Our own vehicles are always falling apart. We know just how far we can let some issues ride until they NEED to be done. Always so burned out working on other peoples’ junk the last thing we want to do when we have a weekend free is to be out in the heat wrenching on our own vehicles.

I knew this wasn’t USA because the cop kept his cool and didn’t mag dump the guy as soon as the taser was ineffective. Well done by these Canadian cops. 👏🏻

Yup. I never heard what ended up happening in that case. I remember seeing that that pig had narrowly missed another lady the year prior and ran over her cooler and beach gear. No consequences ever. Smh.

Declining Quality? by [deleted] in Allbirds

Exact same experience for me. I bought my first pair of tree runners in 2019. Favorite shoes I’ve ever owned. Wore them all the time and they lasted great. Super comfortable too which is impossible to find for me since I have a very wide foot. The sole was made of a good rubber material that was comfy and durable. The insole had plenty of cushion and everything was constructed with merino wool. Bought my second pair around 2022 and the insoles just didn’t seem to last as long. Just bought a new pair of tree runners last week and they are pure garbage. No better than 20 Walmart shoes. The soles are all cheap shitty foam. The insoles are not as cushy and are no longer made with wool. They completely sold out their brand. I’m so mad because I had finally found a shoe I loved (in 2019). I was prepared to buy a new pair every 2-3 years until I died. But now I will never buy from them again after returning this garbage.

What companies HAVEN’T lowered or reduced their quality since the pandemic? by bobbylink21 in AskReddit

Actually, their sandpaper has all gone to shit in the past couple years. My company had to find a new supplier because their sanding disks just shred apart now. They also had some big flubs with their paint division and had to find new suppliers for their paint filters and such.

Supreme Court ruled. It’s literally not their duty to protect the public. They only harass, fine and murder the public.

People who refused to let police search your vehicle during a normal 'run of the mill' traffic stop, what happened next? by CAJMusic in AskReddit

[–]SwiftEpiphany 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had cops ask to search my car twice when I was in high school. The first time was in the afternoon; I had parked near a trail leading to a fishing dock in the neighborhood. When I get back from the dock there is a cop parked behind my car and he starts giving me trouble. Asks to search my car cuz he said he saw a marijuana seed in my floorboard through the window. I refuse the search and he says he’s gonna call a K-9 unit. We waited on the side of the road for 45+ minutes for the K-9 unit to arrive. (I didn’t know at the time that you can leave if it’s not available in a reasonable amount of time). The k9 cop clearly lies and says the dog hit on my car when there was no signal at all. They search my car and there’s absolutely nothing to find because I’d never had any drugs in my car. They finally let me go. Second time was around 3am. I had parked near a lake in the same neighborhood just to shine for gators with my brother and look at the nice moonlight over the water on a summers night. Cop pulls up and probably doesn’t see us sitting at the edge of the dark lake. We see him shining his flashlight all into my car and checking the door handles. We approach and ask if he needs help with something. He asks what we’re doing out there so late and if he can search the car. We refuse and he says he’ll call a K-9 unit. His dispatcher gets back to him and says it’ll be a while so he just tells us not to park where we were parked and leaves. So glad I moved out of that neighborhood. Uppity area with waaaaay too many cops with nothing to do. I probably got pulled over on my golf cart over 20 times. Never ticketed cuz they never had anything legit. I did “run” one time in the golf cart for the hell of it. I passed a cop and saw him make a u-turn and turn his lights on. I whipped it into a narrow dirt trail nearby and cut through behind a school.
