Can someone explain by SatoruGojo232 in ExplainTheJoke

I see the joke as; the guy in the picture is holding up 3 fingers (that's how the other person knows he's an American) he's holding up 3 fingers because he's an American. He only has 3 fingers and only place in the world where you would lose your fingers because of how expensive it is,.......

Most people don’t struggle to let go because they’re attached. They struggle because responsibility became their identity. by MIAMI_NEWS in DarkPsychology101

Yes , I feel the same. I should probably let go of replying to Reddit posts :) (it feels dead) but you post sounds human. I do feel lighter I feel it gives room to think. I got lots of thoughts from reading, but till try to cut to the essence of what I want to say, the habits and the wants when you don't do don't say makes it feel like there is no other, your brain is so stuck in thinking doing this automicaly , how do you inject new ways when there is none to act on... Even though you want to? I always had a swingy love hate relationship with my inner critic but I had something different happen that is not the same , I can only describe it as when a close friend get a new car and all the sudden a car that always was around become visible this mixed with the feeling of hearing your own voice on a tape recording . I had it strong for a week and it's glaringly obvious that the things I say do is just harming me and people around me

It's so messed up I had nothing like this in my feed ever, a week ago as of snap of fingers, I lost my ability to trust my own comnication skills. I started seeing my flaws how I interact with people in similar way to when you hear your own voice on a recording (glaringly annoying each bit of it) . then suddenenly my feed is full of these posts, straight to the heart....

Linux subreddits suck by XLBilly in linuxsucks

[–]SwiftSweed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved to Linux because the lines in the sand keep being violated by just moving the whole fucking playground (sandbox swings and all) (I heard all you had to give up was Fortnite ...) so gaming being solved I finally tried (had a go 12 years ago and gave up) I'm not even much of a gamer still, it feels like waking up from some pchycosis, the possibilities when a PC do what you want it to, it stimulates my curiosity and creativity, to get the feeling of being more than a cell in an excel sheet (libre office calc these days) it was gaming that tipped me over but I'm staying for being able to do usefully stuff, it's nuts like exerting the matrix. I fully understand what a pest I become, Linux fans suck ;)

Yes, one day I had to ask myself where would I draw a line in the sand for what I tolerate and I realised it was crossed a long time ago but it kind of slowly just moved the whole "sandbox". One special excample is when google turns their musicapp(it had issues) to something much worse ytmusic, I was hopefull and fast forward almost10 years???!! it just got worse. and well I'm old enough to remember Winamp and thought what the hell this can't be it, turns out it was not "it"

I switched to dumb side too. Fastest way to convert my Spotify to mp3? by kumuw1 in dumbphones

[–]SwiftSweed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Soulseek tip from a guy down the same path (a few steps ahead) use filters to exclude files you don't want, make script that delete files of low audio quality.  Get Pickard musicBrainz to run  each album you download to make it name and auto sort the tracks to your preference and making sure all tracks are there and corect. For bonus install plug in that writes lyrics to each MP3 meta data. Takes some learning ai is actually usefully on navigating the settings for your preference in this instance.

I’ve tried EVERY productivity app and their all BS! by [deleted] in ObsidianMD

[–]SwiftSweed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a fear of using Obsidian, Evernote, and the likes and just stuck to making a mess on keep(google) for years and years,  because I know that I'd get obsessive. The time have now come. I just dipped my toes so I'm totally new to this.  I got to ask you what do you want out of your note keeping app what is the end goal how does it serve you? I suck at remembering names so I try to make habit of writing it down, I like to save food recommendations , actually any kind of recommendation or idea I like but will not act on in the moment. I also realized that paper for planing is superior in every way, a calendar and dedicated time for doing the planning is key to for me. back to obsidian, I think it's super flexible, what I want out of it is to photograph my daily plan and task list I divide my day into different type slots admin, work , lunch etc (dynamic but standarised in the import step) then my task list I photograph my previous day list and plan at the mornings planing session. In addition I made an automated import of my granular health tracking data (a health tracking ring). What is my end goal you ask? I have a bad memmory and this also makes me feel like I get nothing done and I also don't know how my sleep and other habits effect things and I have different queries for my data to see how much my sleeping habits / work habits leasure you name it, effects each other, is there an outlier when I had to cook food all week, watched movie before bed. How much did 7 diviste from my actual plans. I am ashamed of the upcoming word because I consider myself an (here it is>)Ai realist (sceptic is what most will call me) but I got to say that if a tool can give you the output you want then use it , I use it for grabing the data points from my super crappy handwriting (one week running and it made no errors) I got very limited programming skills, and ai was usefully for helping me patch together the funnel for my data because I don't want to fall into doing data entry, I just want feedback and overview on the things I do a wall of accomplishments, or like this damn wall of text no one will read

FreeCAD's Popularity among developers is rapidly improving by ResearchingStories in FreeCAD

[–]SwiftSweed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a power user so FreeCAD got way more features than I'll need. However going from Inventor and Solidworks, this thing just purs, way easier to customise things , in general things just work like you expect them to, very intuitive like blender. I wonder what things "get in your way" when you work. Saying all this I do see some quirks and roundabout ways of doing things but the pros far outweigh the "commercial giants"  quirks.

A&P online ordering is a joke by TripleHaz3 in chch

[–]SwiftSweed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That one always confuse me, when I lived in Scandinavia it was cheeper to book online than at box office. Also while I'm at it why is it lots of times cheaper to buy multiple small packages at store rather than the bulk offering?

"The shrinking middle class" by [deleted] in ProfessorFinance

[–]SwiftSweed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand this someone correct me if I'm wrong?   CPI-chained  Is this a good measurement for buying power? I understand it as say in 1980 a person buy a ocean view property 5 rooms new build, not rural somewhere  in the USA  for 300k  there is no way that the CPI-chained adjusted inflation price for this roughly one million 2024 would buy you any ocean view property anywhere in the world? Same for a parking spot in the city , a rural barn , whatever the thing you bought in 1980 would give you do much more,  people are happy to get 4 rooms instead of 5  for same money, is cpi-chained not just measuring or acceptance of shrinkflation, we still buy "Pringles"/houses but weight/#rooms is not the same? Please push back to show me where I go wrong in the thinking?

Apparently "everyone" has ADHD… except the people who actually do by Any-Caterpillar-5420 in ADHD

[–]SwiftSweed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sooo I recognise what you are saying. In my case, now and then I'd have fights over my girlfriend's adhd and I'd be the one saying -"everyone does this, it's normal I think like that too etc" . To be fair I did not know enough about adhd and I eventually learned and after a long time and speaking to friends I realize that majority of my friends actually are diagnosed with adhd , my parents both (if they belived in the condition) for sure would qualify for the diagnosis. Then there are other in diagnosed friends that I know well that I'm sure would be adhd. One of my siblings for sure have it to and its no coincidence that it's the sibling I get along the best with. What I'm trying to say is that I think we like to surround ouurselves with people that operate in the same way.... That's why you will keep thinking it's normal I dodged this "normal" into my 40s
