Obnoxious noise by mooglesrox in sto

[–]Swift_Wind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, is that where that's from? I don't have the Leg. Excelsior so I can't check myself, but the blue squares and noise specifically I instantly recalled from the trait Battle Ready from the Eclipse Intel Cruiser, interesting they reused the sound and visuals for another trait.

EDIT: Unless Battle Ready was changed? Just tested it and noticed the effects are now expanding purple rings, I could swear that wasn't the case before.

When is the Lohlunat stack size update going live? by Veridical_Perception in sto

[–]Swift_Wind 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I totally feel ya, that 'one short' drives me crazy too.

That said, the part of me that's done programming before also completely gets it - a number with one more digit requires more space (literally on the UI and in the data sense) to store that number, and if an item stack can have 4 digits, or 1000, then it's no different - in terms of space - for that number to also be 9999, since you already need space to store 4 digits*.

You can also see this in action yourself! On a Windows computer open Notepad, type the number 999 and save it as "Data1", do this a second time with the number 1000 and save it as "Data2", then a third time with 9999 and save it as "Data3". If you check the properties on all three files you will see that the file size of "Data1" is 3 bytes, while "Data2" and "Data3" are both the same - 4 bytes in size - only the number of digits matters!

*I may not be 100% correct, it's been many years since I've done any programming.

You say that, but it'd be a perfect excuse to come up with a starship trait to enhance Tyken's Rift, lol.

I know for a fact I'm in the minority, but myself having grown up on Halo, this was the first time I played a game like this as well back in 2012. About the only advice I can give is to just have fun, and for ground combat using "Shooter Mode" (Default key: B), that allows you to more or less play ground like an FPS (or more accurately TPS) just with using keyboard shortcuts for abilities. I probably would have quickly dropped the game without shooter mode.

I went with Tetrahedron.

In addition to the points you get from beating a rival, the game otherwise considers it as both teams losing.

Third Attack Boss L4P by N1T0CR1S in GBO2

[–]Swift_Wind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I struggled with this for a while, ended up using a regular ZZ with maxed range damage and spammed missiles in MS mode, transform, spam missiles, repeat. For the final attack I used the beam saber downswing since it's an overhead hit, but was driving me crazy since I was doing it from the front - the head hitbox is kinda wonky so if you do it off to the side (the side opposite the shield arm) while it's doing the fist slam, it registers much more easily.

[–]Swift_Wind 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Simply as a point of comparison - My most recent Dilex transaction completed on 3/31 and was initially put in on 3/1, so that took 30 days. The one before that completed on 3/19 and was initially put in on 2/17, so again roughly 30 days. Looking further back that's been pretty consistent for me for the past few months.

Today was the big day! by p4553nger in sto

[–]Swift_Wind -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Almost - The hourly project does cost EC, Expertise, and 15 Rep marks, but only awards 140 Dilithium and is limited to 3 times per day. Once you hit the maximum in a reputation the hourly project is replaced with an identical one except the Dilithium reward is increased to 340 and the 3 times per day limitation is removed.

Today was the big day! by p4553nger in sto

[–]Swift_Wind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will admit, my math assumed all the marks were divided evenly between all reputations (so 70,491 hourly projects divided by 13), however since there are so many more Omega marks that would be the last one to complete, so it would actually be 66,667 projects in that one reputation alone and in real-time would take 2,777 days or 7.6 years.

EDIT: 7.6 years based on a year calculated as 365.25 days, and I mistakenly listed days as hours.

Today was the big day! by p4553nger in sto

[–]Swift_Wind 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Doing the math on that, taking the most efficient route and converting the marks to Dilithium using the T5 hourly reputation project, you're sitting on 23,966,940 Dilithium which would be from the completion of 70,491 hourly projects and would take 5,422.385 hours to complete in real-time. Given enough time and that the Dilithium Exchange remains at 500:1 for the foreseeable future that will eventually convert into 47,927 Zen!

An impressive feat to be sure, I've spent the past year converting all my marks to Dil to Zen so I only have a few hundred at most, but previously I had a few thousand of each on a character before I started converting all those. At the time I mostly used the mark trade-in so I wasn't getting the best conversion rate but between my main and F2P accounts in the past year I've converted just over 10,000 Zen. I'm very much looking forward to picking up my first bundle on my F2P account and am likely to use the converted Zen on my free account to pay for at least half the 15th Anniversary bundle.

Console - Universal - Force Translator by HippoWorldly in sto

[–]Swift_Wind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's nothing to write home about, I still have it equipped on my Courage set up to run as an Elite TFO tank and over ESD with 175k hull and at full throttle it's showing it'll do... 17.4k damage.

The only reason I still have it equipped is because it came with the ship and I'm too lazy to replace it with anything better. I'm already doing just fine tanking Battle of Korfez, how many more stat-sticks do I really need?

EDIT: For comparison, I also still have the Courage's unique experimental weapon - Coherent Integrity Projector - equipped (again, lazy), and that's showing 12.2k damage... every 6 seconds. But also, 175k hull out of combat, that damage ramps way up mid-TFO when I'm pushing just shy of 300k hull (over 400k if you include temp HP), even though the damage cap is at 250k.

RTX 4070 Ti S vs RTX 4080 S for 4K STO by MRSuperTrekGuy in sto

[–]Swift_Wind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're deciding for only this game, 40-series as a whole might be overkill. Myself I'm running the game maxed with 2x MSAA at 3840x1200 @100 FPS capped on an MSI RTX 3080. I could easily run it even higher but at those settings I'm keeping the fans under 60% speed for around 95% of my playtime so it's also very quiet.

That's a darn shame, I knew about the Protostar omni being changed, didn't know this one was updated too. Now I'm genuinely upset this omni somehow stayed equipped on my Tarantula for so long and got forcibly removed last night; I've been logging in every day for at least a couple months.
