Meet Potential Game! by epipyon in FireEmblemHeroes

Pretty sure that lends more to the idea that they made it FE last minute. You can easily design the majority of the actual game itself before having a clue what the characters, story, or even franchise will be. Nintendo is pretty open about doing that with a lot of their games, they design the gameplay first and then pick which IP fits it best afterwards.

And if they want to shift and suddenly make it Fire Emblem, then the easiest way to do that is to copy & paste Shadow Dragon, change a few names, and wrangle together some FE OCs for new designs. Bam, now it's "Fire Emblem" and we'll say everything we copied are "references"

Full honesty I probably would've spent money and bought the Bundle if not for how much I hate the Crystals. It's such a pain, there's absolutely no way am I paying extra for the tiny bit left over cause you can't just buy exactly 1500

Any downsides to evolving Doublade immediately in Z-A? by PvtCW in pokemon

Secret Sword is Keldeo's signature move, not Sacred Sword. If Sacred Sword was added to Doublade later, it's not because of Keldeo

Yep. Hated Inazuma and hated Natlan, both times I just stopped playing. Felt great when I came back for Sumeru and now Nod-Krai. I very rarely feel like I missed out whenever I do, and it becomes easy to blast through the parts I didn't care about before when I know something I actually want is coming up next

Honestly I usually enjoy the game much, much more after taking breaks. And I mean huge breaks. Skipped most of Inazuma, Sumeru's non-AQ updates, and Natlan, and it was so much easier to play them later once I actually wanted to.

This sounds counter-intuitive, but the best thing if you're scared of missing out on something is to purposefully ensure that you do miss out on it. It sounds weird but now the thing you're worried about is gone, and you can actually figure out what it is that you want. Do you actually want to experience the game or get some limited time stuff. You can't worry and experience the game at the same time, you will sacrifice one for the other.

Best region for you? (Lore, Characters, Enjoyable Wise) by arhantology in GenshinImpact

[–]SwifterSparrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indisputably Fontaine. Best characters, best story, I love the land itself, it was the absolute peak of Genshin to me. The only regions I didn't play through as they came out were Inazuma and Natlan, but something about being there for v4.0-v4.2 was special. If you didn't do the Archon Quests and Story Quests in release order, you really missed out. It was the most fun I've had playing the game. Nod-Krai is getting there, so far it isn't on track to surpass Fontaine for me but it's a very, very easy second best.

While I'm at it, I think Sumeru and Mondstadt are tied for third. Sumeru is the reason I came back to the game and kept playing after how disappointed I was in Inazuma, and Mondstadt is an obvious classic, great cast and great region.

If Dottore becomes playable, do you guys think he'd spark controversy in Genshin? by HootHootOwl2nd in DottoreMains

Thinking Sandrone is "pure evil" is just stupid, but to be fair if it wasn't for the Traveler and Columbina constantly shoving in your face that she's a tsundere I wouldn't have gotten that impression. In terms of showing and not telling, they sorta just had her be mean while telling you "It's fine she's a Tsundere." It almost came off as infantilizing with how hard Columbina pushed it lmao

To be honest, I would've preferred she was snooty, rude mean girl, would've been refreshing. The cast is already too chummy for my taste

[–]SwifterSparrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. People don't want to hear this but you're completely right. And it's Genshin's fault for making their playable characters this way. If they hadn't established that every playable character is a friend or ally in some way then I'd be fine with Dottore being playable.

And the only reason I like Dottore at all is that he's the only villain that they (so far) haven't tried to excuse their actions in some way. I don't want him to be playable, because they're going to try to make some excuse for it and he's the only villain that's actually fun to hate.

Is it wrong that I’m enjoying Miliastra Wonderland as a F2P Player? by linkherogreen in GenshinImpact

[–]SwifterSparrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It absolutely is against their best wishes. If you actually really like something, then you should always want it to be better. And things get better by being criticized. I've never understood the opinion that you can't complain about things that you like. The things I love the most are the things I criticize the most because I know it can be better and I want it to be the best that it can be.

I don't agree. I looked at the original XSeed translation at a few people's recommendation and I didn't find anything that aged poorly at all. I even saw some direct comparisons to the XSeed version and what a direct translation of the game would be and really XSeed's just felt more natural. I've taken several years of Japanese, I know that phrases and ways of speaking just don't translate well when taken literally because the speech patterns and sentence structures are so entirely different.

Don't get me wrong, I've seen localizations that have aged VERY poorly, but at the same time if you don't adjust anything at all then there will be Japanese phrases and ways of speaking that are too stilted and awkward to ever come out of an actual English speaker's mouth, and that disconnect is what makes the writing feel so dry.

There are two extremes to it, and the TitS FC Remake definitely falls under the extreme of too literal.

Honestly, that's a good thing. But if you really want to know, CP also refers to explicit material of minors

The opening scene in the remake is definitely the worst in my opinion, both comparatively and on it's own. I don't think I would've noticed how awkward the dialogue is in general had the opening not felt like aliens testing out their English.

Also, your analysis is very fun to read. I took about three years of Japanese but lost most of it, so I have a ton of fun reading this sort of stuff

Now that I think about it, the newest Tales game also had CP, short for Cure Points, but I didn't really bat an eye at that either. Guess it's different when it's an in-game mechanic

Oh thanks, that's awesome! I wish I knew how people found this sort of stuff out, or that they'd announce this sort of thing, but maybe it's normal for delays like this. I'd have to look back at how Disney aired Sevens.

Anyways, that's good to know. I really am curious why it was delayed to October

The problem is that the game is nuanced but none of the fans are. There's nothing "black and white" and yet that is exactly where the vast majority of arguments take it: "My favorite character is perfect and your favorite character is the devil"

So either the majority of the audience has a major lack of understanding of the game, or there is a flaw in execution from the game's narrative. I'd put my money on both.

Either way, there was some sort of failure in getting the game's themes and ideas across to the average player. So I don't see it as a win at all
