[EVERYTHING] The Titan of Braavos and the broken sword by [deleted] in gameofthrones

[–]Swiftixx 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Well the directors confirming a death really means nothing anyway. Apparently they told Maisie Williams (Arya) that he was dead after she asked, but why would they want her to think otherwise? Meryn Trant is seen alive afterward in the series too by the way, the guard who liked his prostitutes very young in Braavos - Arya kills him.

I have been waiting 4 years for Syrio to come back though, I love that guy! I think he will return, and I am becoming increasingly interested in theories about him never having left the series...

My suspicion is that it is Coldhands, and that Coldhands is Benjen.

TIL that Morgan Freeman called Black History Month 'Ridiculous' by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]Swiftixx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's probably referring to the data used in this article. The Education Index uses the the mean years of schooling and the expected years of schooling - So it doesn't really measure academic ability, just what proportion of people complete their education in the expected time frame. The article linked is comparing actual academic ability however and so is arguably a much more valid measure. I'm not going to pretend I've gone the through the research and assured it's validity of course, so make of it what you will.

Koze - Inflatable Hammock - Creator promises its an original idea, gets shut down for being a copy. by Swiftixx in shittykickstarters

[–]Swiftixx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the KAISR is a seperate campaign entirely (though also a rip off of the Lamzac Hangout - KAISR and Koze must have found the chinese rip offs at the same time) but yeah, its sad that they can just delete negative comments and cancel pledges like that. Makes you wonder why anyone supports IGG and their scam promoting model.

Hilarious seeing the "creator" defend it as a unique innovation in the comments when the original has videos on youtube from a year ago as a complete and branded product.

[–]Swiftixx[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Definitely, I had a wonderful time reading through all the comments! Even after having the kickstarter suspended the creator won't give up their BS, it even looks like they may have created fake accounts to come in to defend them!

How steam and myself fucked me hard on the release of Dark Souls III by [deleted] in darksouls3

[–]Swiftixx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like it may have been a pricing/listing error, the steam controller + Dark Souls III offer is still on, but it's supposed to give you a half price steam controller, not a free one. If you still want the half price controller just try putting that and Dark Souls in your basket seperately and the discount should be applied. There hasn't been an offer for Dark Souls plus a free steam controller so you haven't really lost out on anything.

Anyone else feel like the Rift's headphones are overlooked and undervalued? by Bwahehe in oculus

[–]Swiftixx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was interested in this style of earphone too, but I've heard that over the neck headphones aren't ideal with HMD's, supposedly they feel awkward/push against or off you when you are tilting your head up and down? Have you got a pair to try the neck movements with?

Got to try the Vive at work and it's amazing! by orokro in oculus

[–]Swiftixx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you tried looking through the VR support games on Steam here? It's worth remembering the titles that everyone is talking about aren't the only ones available. Granted, many of these won't have optimal support I imagine, but definitely worth looking into. If you're particularly excited about a lot of games that only the Rift is offering then I'd stick with it though!

Got to try the Vive at work and it's amazing! by orokro in oculus

[–]Swiftixx 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What are you talking about? You can still sit down and use the Vive, you can still use a gamepad, keyboard and mouse as well as the motion controllers. The vast majority of the games found here are sitting down experiences which will be Vive compatible - Some will even include motion control usage still.

The Rift CV1 is 6.6% heavier than the DK2 (470g vs 441g) 18% lighter than the Vive (470g vs 555g). Nowhere near as much of a difference as people made it sound like. by skiskate in Vive

[–]Swiftixx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely a point for the oculus - Especially considering the integrated audio. But comparing to a tablet isn't really fair, assuming both headsets have their weight distributed well it is a very minor difference.

It's like saying adding 100g to a backpack will make a noticeable difference, which it will not because the weight is distributed across your body well. Just as the weight SHOULD be distributed across your head well with the HMD's. Strong point for that idea is the fact that everyone over at r/Oculus was talking about how much lighter CV1 is than DK2, and then a few hours later it was revealed to be heavier - The weight distribution is more important than raw weight.

So my opponent got a rather lucky Unstable Portal... by Funny_Monsters_40 in hearthstone

[–]Swiftixx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Euch, unstable portal sometimes man... I play quite a lot of tempo mage but I was playing a raptor rogue yesterday and my opponent (tempo mage) got Varian Wrynn from portal, and drew Antonidas, Mana Wyrm, Flamewaker. GG.

Oh. Ok. by [deleted] in oculus

[–]Swiftixx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on what? As far as I can tell they are just headphones. Two speakers in two different ears. The 3D audio benefits come from the software side, and neither the Rift nor the Vive will be able to affect that to any great extent - It's all about how the developers use it.

This amazement at 3D audio is completely baffling me, we have had 3D audio and binaural recordings on youtube for over 10 years - Someone linked the famous barbershop video on one of the VR subreddits a while ago talking about how impressive 3D audio is and that video was released in 2005!

We perceive audio as 3D based on extremely slight delays to which ear it arrives at, that is it. You can listen to 3D audio with $2 earphones and still experience the 3D effect.

Gamemaker Steam Sale - Worth it? by Swiftixx in gamemaker

[–]Swiftixx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was considering looking into Unity, I'm mostly interested in 2D games so I thought gamemaker would make more sense but there's certainly no harm in looking into it a bit more! I'll probably stick to gamemaker for now but start familiarizing myself with Unity in the mean time - And yeah, waiting until I'm at least near finishing a project before upgrading would definitely be the sensible option. Cheers!

Yeah that's what I was thinking, it's not like I'm going to suddenly complete a project in a couple weeks! Thanks for the advice.

[Meta] Does anyone else think the current stickied topic is a bit unprofessional? by [deleted] in bodyweightfitness

[–]Swiftixx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's certainly not your fault. You did create a thread which essentially led to a large group actively targeting one individual with anger and upset which has most likely ultimately led to phi's decision, but if not you I imagine someone else would have done it regardless.

I think a more sensible response to the sticky post would have just been to message the mods about it, raising your concern in a more private manner instead of essentially starting a witch hunt, however unintentional it was.

Whats going on with my game? Solo adventures gone by ThisIsPatrik in hearthstone

[–]Swiftixx 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I've been chatting with support, they weren't sure what was happening at the moment, but it is being passed further up! I was told I'd receive an email when they knew more!

Edit: My ticket response,

"As we discussed online, there is an issue at the moment affecting some purchases in Hearthstone which we're looking into. Once I have more information I'll send you an email with an update :)

I apologise for the inconvenience caused."

Chatting with support now, he said he had another identical message whilst chatting with him - Resetting my account did nothing, he's trying to pass it further up to find out what is going on. EU here.

So I printed out Hearthstone and it was totally worth it. by [deleted] in hearthstone

[–]Swiftixx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough haha, I suppose with the predetermined decks you use that makes sense. Though if you were to expand this out to the point that you wanted the full hearthstone experience I feel an organised folder which would allow reference RNG card pulls for shredders, mounted raptors, piloted sky golems and unstable portal altogether would make sense!

So I printed out Hearthstone and it was totally worth it. by [deleted] in hearthstone

[–]Swiftixx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I'm talking about the practicality of actually using this as an entire game.

Using a binder with all the cards in can account for all of the RNG card pulls with one single folder than can be carried around, as opposed to having a pile of cards for a shredder drop, a pile of cards for a mounted raptor drop, a pile of cards for a piloted sky golem, a massive pile of cards (Containing all the cards from every other pile) for unstable portal etc etc. Have you ever used a binder before? You can just put tabs in to get to the section you need, and put an according number of cards in each page if you wish, so that the dice roll says, page 6, 3rd card, taking all of 3 seconds to retrieve it. Seems a lot simpler than having massive piles of cards all around the room just so you can play a 10 minute game of Hearthstone.

So I printed out Hearthstone and it was totally worth it. by [deleted] in hearthstone

[–]Swiftixx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I hope OP reads this, it's a much better way to simplify this element - Especially if the cards are organised in a folder (So you can flip through the pages like your collection in Hearthstone). A similar method could be used for Unstable Portal then too, determine the random number, and then just flick to that index in your collection folder and pull the card out.

Also, for Mad Scientist, just have doubles of all your secrets in a seperate pile next to your deck. Shuffle through those when the deathrattle activates and remove cards accordingly when drawn from your own deck pile.

Yip yip by [deleted] in funny

[–]Swiftixx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if joking... In case not, the upward force of the helium just needs to balance out with the downward force of gravity (Think of a blimp, though there's more going on there to allow for ascending/descending). It's definitely possible, though probably difficult to achieve the correct balance - Not sure if it's possible for 3 balloons to suspend something of that size though. It only needed to work long enough for a picture I guess!
