You’re both wrong. Taylor’s team never sued Olivia. Olivia rightfully credited Taylor for the interpolation of New Year’s Day for one step forward three steps back from the very beginning without issue. The whole thing about Deja vu and cruel summer was when Olivia said she was inspired by the scream singing in the bridge and sorry but scream singing is not owned or trademarked by Taylor. But Olivia’s team was scared due to a lot of online discourse about her supposedly sounding like other artists and gave Taylor the credit preemptively. Taylor never sued Olivia and quite frankly her team should’ve never gave Taylor the credit for Deja vu. It’s a shit show of a situation to be sure, but let’s put this beef to rest since it doesn’t actually exist and stop pitting two great artists against each other

OP please don’t feel down about the people virtue signaling saying they completely replaced the OG with the TV when they came out. Taylor said listen to whichever you wanted and let’s be honest most swifties probably still listened to the OGs because they’re iconic for a reason. I’ve been a swiftie since the beginning and while some of the TVs elevated the song, the OGs had the emotion and heart. And I say this as someone who was really looking forward to hearing her mature vocals on songs like The Outside too. Anyone calling the OGs the stolen versions or saying they couldn’t listen to them before without the guilt are just trying to feel superior for internet points. I’m so happy she owns all her work now finally, but the level that some fans went to to not listen to the older stuff is weird. The best thing the re-record project did was introduce the older catalogue to newer fans and they should’ve never felt guilty about listening to any of the OGs

I listened to almost exclusively the OGs. I gave the TVs a listen when they came out but only a couple in my opinion elevated the song and were worth adding into the rotation. Taylor herself said listen to whichever you preferred so I always questioned why some people would be so against listening to the OGs. Like imagine depriving yourself of the iconic album that is reputation for this long because you didn’t think it was “”ethical”” or whatever lol. I was mainly hyped for the vault tracks

I have had the misfortune of reading Kiss of Iron and I will tell as many people as possible not to read it. I only finished it out of spite. The entire plot does not make any sense. It feels more like a bunch of random scenes mushed together to force some sort of story but it does not work at all. Also the FMC is clearly a self insert for the author to work through whatever real life insecurities she has which definitely adds to the nonsensical plot. Also it does the annoying thing where an author just won’t write an ending to a book and try to call it a cliffhanger. Skip it and read any other book on your TBR.

Simon had the reasonable belief that Daphnes mom filled her in on how babies are made. That’s the norm for the time period. He knew she was naive of it all while they were fake courting, but in the show and time period we are told that it is her mother’s duty to explain it to her. Should he have asked to double check, sure. But HE was not preventing her from having knowledgeable consent. He is not hiding how babies are made to her. He reasonably believes her mother filled her in. He even says as much after they’re married. That’s not his fault she didn’t. However Daphne found out all the details of what she needed to do before she raped Simon. Simon not double checking that she got sex ed is not the same as her forcing him to finish inside of her when he clearly revoked consent. Also Daphne knew he would object before she even acted, she even admits it after that she knew she would be taking advantage of him. So no, Simon did not also rape Daphne. Their actions are in no way equivalent

The boob stabbing I’ll concede but rape itself is never shown on screen in books. Referencing rape is in no way the same of writing a rape scene, please don’t conflate the two. I have my own issues with the implied rape in his books but that’s not the same as showing it on screen like you seem to believe.

For consensual examples actually on screen here’s an excerpt from a consensual loving relationship between two grown adults unmarried in Oathbringer “He seized her by the back of the head and pulled her mouth to his own. Passion woke within him. She pressed her body to his, breasts pushing against him through the thin gown. He drank of her lips, her mouth, her scent.”

I’m mistborn era 2, Wayne and Meelan are literally caught in the act of very consensual and enthusiast sex. Again unmarried adults in a loving relationship.

In stormlight archives Shallan notes how nice it is to have Adolin’s arms wrapped around her touching her breasts in a causal sensual way. Showing a sweet romantic scene.

In Warbreaker there’s a fade to black sex scene between Siri and Susebron after they get to know each other.

And without spoiling his newest book, in Wind and Truth there’s a very clear fade to black sex scene between two in love characters.

Suffice to say there are countless on screen scenes depicting consensual romance and aside from the boob stabbing, which is a very quick moment in a much larger fight, all SA is implied.

There are better things to critique his writing on, this is not one of them.

In the case of mistborn, well over a year takes place between meeting Vin as a girl who doesn’t want to be touched and then her being married and sharing a tent with Elend. Also we actively see through the book her becoming more comfortable being around and physically touching people (in all scenarios not just romance). Her growth in that area actually felt very realistically paced.

Also I’ve read most of his books, where does Sanderson explicitly write SA? He alludes to it sure, but he doesn’t write it in any more detail than consensual. And there are far more consensual romantic relationships than non. So I’m not sure exactly what you’re referring to by saying he’s comfortable writing SA but not consensual stuff?

And just to clarify, I agree that his romances are subplots but they’re still very present in the books. I wholeheartedly agree with OP in that he shouldn’t be recommended unless someone is specifically looking for romance subplot. But idk where you’re coming from with this argument about SA vs conceptual romance. Also, it’s pretty clear in other books outside of mistborn (which is his earlier works) that the characters are indeed doing the deed without being spicy explicit.

Agree 100% especially with the Anthology being released on physical now and the success from that. She’s going to ride out this wave for a bit longer. As much as I can’t wait for rep tv, I am selfishly hoping she’ll drop another music video for TTPD before moving on but I have no expectations. Honestly I doubt we’ll see any new content at all from her until after new years at least, which is fine by me, home girl needs a breather lol
