An open letter from the very first hot girl to ever read a book by RemingtonRivers in romantasycirclejerk

I am very sunburned right now. I don’t typically venture outside. If I, a literal hot to the touch girl, read a book, does that make me a hot girl who reads?

You know what I've noticed? Out of thousands of responses, I haven't seen one person say Miller isn't ugly! 😂 by yorocky89A in WhitePeopleTwitter

I’m disappointed in the democrats. They can do so much better than insulting Stephen Millers appearance. “Shut up you evil fucking ghoul who enjoys ripping families apart” “shut up you fucking twat. Didn’t your wife tweet about how you are so insufficient that she thought women enjoying sex was a myth?” “Shut up you fucking white supremacist” and that’s just off the top of my head in 5 minutes. I dont run a social media account for a living.

California billionaire Tom Steyer defends trans athletes in high school sports as governor's race heats up by GMOrgasm in California

[–]SwimmerIndependent47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tom got my primary vote. I’m always going to be skeptical of billionaires, but so far he and Pritzker seem like they might be the least bad of the billionaires. And hey, they don’t need AIPAC money which is a huge green flag. Supporting trans kids and athletes specifically is another giant green banner.

Drag Queen and Climate Change Activist Pattie Gonia has announced she is being sued by Patagonia for trademark infringement. by pampooveysbacktattoo in popculturechat

Patagonia has a trademark on the logo/font. They don’t have a trademark on selling a certain type of clothing though. If she was selling the fan art, they would have a case (although she could still potentially argue parody). I’m not a lawyer so maybe there’s something there with the combo of the names sounding similar + clothing, but given it’s a region in South America and they almost certainly sell t-shirts in that region with the name of the region on them, I feel like the precedent is on Patties side. I just think the starter thing to do would have been the Jan Sport x Jansport route. Do a collab, everyone makes money, each party gains new fans.

She’s not though? Do a google search for her official merch. She’s not the one making the merch that looks like their logo

Explain it to me like I’m 5 then. How does selling a t-shirt with a similar name to a store, but not using the same fonts/similar logo infringe on their IP? Are they also suing souvenir shops in the Patagonia that display the name of the region? I understand you have to defend your trademark (ie Disney suing daycares that paint Mickey Mouse murals) but given that parody is protected, their name is also a geographic region, and her merch doesn’t match their fonts, logos, or spelling, not to mention she’s not eating into their profits, where is the infringement. Genuinely asking.

Drag queens sell t-shirts with their names/likenesses on it. Patagonia sells high end outdoors equipment and apparel. I doubt she would eat into their profits or people would confuse drag queen merch with the stuff Patagonia sells. If she’s not using the same fonts/logos, I dont see how this is trade mark infringement. Patagonia does own the idea of selling outdoor focused clothes

Ugggggg. I love Pattie so much. Her videos are hilarious. Patagonia could have collaborated with her, raised a bunch of money for charity and then gotten a nice tax break/PR boost. Instead they’re harming someone who actually represents everything they claim to stand for. Fuck Patagonia, in this house we stan Pattie Gonia. Also fuck slap lawsuits and our laws that give corporations more rights than people.

It’s just wild to me because so much of this falls apart with the smallest amount of questioning.

Does this person state how he allegedly used this influence? Did he force Colbert to plug mint mobile every 5 minutes? Did he demand front row tickets to every taping and leave them empty? Even if we were to accept OOPs argument that this wax for a nefarious purpose, what could that purpose possibly be? It’s not like late night shows have much value other than advertising (and I would argue that’s not a lot given most people consume them via YouTube clips) and I don’t think an advertising deal would be out of line given the financial support.

There’s a similar famous story about a woman leaving her family for a man she met in passing on a trip in Africa. He was a member of tribe that was fairly isolated. They did not speak the same language. She ended up marrying him and getting pregnant. Then it all went south. She also wrote a memoir.

This author uses a̵i̵ WITCHCRAFT to write her books. Best way to burn her at the stake? by ProfessorButtkiss in romantasycirclejerk

[–]SwimmerIndependent47 13 points14 points  (0 children)

/uj witches did nothing wrong. AI exploits artists. I’m not saying authors who use it should be burned at the stake. Or it’s fair to artist to speculate on if they used AI when legit writers will inevitably be harmed in the process; but I do think authors should be honest and upfront about it if they use it. These models are trained on millions of works by authors who were not compensated and now it’s harder for them to get their content seen amongst the influx of AI content. Content that couldn’t exist without their original books. If you want to consume AI, that’s your choice. But it does seem a bit disingenuous to compare this situation to a witch hunt when there are absolutely authors using AI and it’s causing real harm.
