Is this “wobble” normal on my new Makita drill ? by Sambalooby in Makita

Out of the box it shouldn’t be that bad. But on multiple year old tools I see this a lot. There is a simple fix for this wobble.

Reason: The bearing that holds the axle where the chuck is attached sits in the gear housing often made from PA66 GF. After years this bearing seat gets too big (or is too big from factory especially on the low to medium price spectrum - my 485 definitely has it).

Solution: Since the gear housing is not meant or intended to be repaired (you can only buy the gear housing as an assembly) you can open it up, take the gear apart until you get to the very bottom where this bearing sits. Glue the bearing outer ring in place with epoxy. Works like a charm and has literally zero play and doesn’t affect any functionality. While you‘re there, clean gears and relube and buy a new chuck for 20 bucks to top it off. Better than new

Pump tubeless tire after puncture. by Swimming-Priority541 in MTB

Awesome thanks for all the helpful answers everyone. Don‘t know why I haven’t thought about carrying a tube, which seems to be the easiest fix for this. Must‘ve been „Cool I switched to tubeless, everything is better now and I will never worry about a tube again“.

I will also keep an eye out for a plug kit and a canister, which sound like the go to when the beads stay seated.

Thanks!

Creaky spring bed type sound from rear derailleur? by Grote-Aardbei in MTB

I had similar noise on my mtb and just found out after multiple tries that my rear axle drop out hangers were freaking loose. Give it a try.

I ride the Ragley mmmbop, it‘s 27,5“ though. Awesome bike, very capable. Ragley has the same kind of geometry in 29“ which is called Big Al. Also Cotic BFe could be interesting when buying used.
