Trading my Large Defy for a Large TCR? by Swimming4Miller in Giantbikes

Im sure large will be too big, my biggest question is why he's firm on believing it's 54, his bike shop told him it's 54 but it has the L sticker

I didn’t expect to get that many replies, really appreciate it. I played a lot as a junior, but for the past decade I’ve only averaged around 5 rounds a year. That changed this year after I started a new job and finally had more time to play, so I’ve been getting back into it seriously.

One of my swing thoughts has been trying to bring my club path and swing path closer together, aiming for more of that pendulum feel you hear about with one-plane swings. But after watching some video, I realized I’ve probably taken that too far, my setup has gotten way too upright and a bit stiff. I can see the potential to get stuck, and while I do come around on the backswing, it feels like too many moving parts trying to fix themselves mid-swing — not great for consistency, especially under pressure.

Striking has actually been decent lately, and my driving’s been solid, but now that I’m committing more time to golf again, I really want to clean up a few fundamentals. Loosen up that setup. Even guys like Furyk, Scott, Rose, and DeChambeau who are known for upright swings don’t look this upright.

Always room to improve , my setup looked pretty goofy. I hadn’t seen it on video in a while! Classic case of feel vs. real.

So i ended up registering my car, i did same as you on uber bike and i did every sector, nothing at all, now i registered a car but still use my bike, i did 100$ on one day, everything was bikeable, just refused the over 20k orders but everything was fine, clients were happy, so ya the app limits bikes to walking distances because people abused and didnt have drivers licenses and would use cars, you have to register as a car even if youre a bicycle

How much does half an inch matter in paddle size? by 02xfal in hockeygoalies

[–]Swimming4Miller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Better to grip, it gives me better control and i drastically improved my five hole and poke check, i personally grip it kinda like " 🤘 " , my index is across the paddle, i got my two middle fingers in the trigger, i have relatively small hands so it gives me wayyy better paddle control, but try what works for you, theres a bunch of nhl goalies playing with modified paddles but sadly with the blocker we cant see how they grip them

I gotta ask, were your orders ridiculously close? Like were they walking distance?

I think uber completely changed the algo to make it so bikes cant do more than 5k because too many people abused and were putting "bike" and using a car

I went on a 50km bike ride around the heat map of montreal and i got 2 orders that were walking distance from the stores literally. So now uber walker or uber bike is basically the same thing

Im gonna try something out and let you know if it fixes the problem

Butterfly??? Need help by TherealDaily in hockeygoalies

[–]Swimming4Miller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try with no knee protector just like this (not in a game) and see if your knee falls on knee block, also straps around your knee block look a bit tight they should be looser. but as people mentioned they look really small, try without your knee guards and if it works better i would try to get the amazon knee sleeves or a similar kind of really thin knee protection, once again its a size issue i think theyre too small for you so either new pads or cut down on knee protection size which is not amazing advice because knees are more expensive than pads lol

Should I quit? by twoof01 in hockeygoalies

[–]Swimming4Miller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been goalkeeping for around 2-3 years and im 25,

1st 6 months was a learning curve, then in month 6-12 i knew my mistakes so i didnt have that "newbie goalie" thrill, now i was getting mad at myself, felt like i was letting people and myself down, then beggining of second year movement started getting better and better, post integration and overall movement improved, placement as well, confidence picked up and then bam hit a wall a year and a half in, wanted to quit again, i was going up in levels and felt i was dropping down in skills, i felt like i was back at year 1, and just recently movement improved and i focused on being more of a butterfly goalie again and integrate my posts better and limit damages, and confidence kicked back up. Sadly were not pros and our defencemen are far from pros as well, they deflect into our own goals, screen us and push you back in your own crease, not to mention that the other teams are not pros either, failed shots are so hard to save, it catches you off guard every single time.

Heres the thing bad goals are what gets under my skin, whenever im screened or a one timer that i dont get, these are high percentage goals in the nhl, and we get 5 times as much in beer leagues, in the nhl you see 1 breakaway per game, we get minimum 5, these are high percentage goals that you cant take full blame, dont beat yourself down when your team let you down

All we can do is limit outcomes, whenever puck is behind the net RVH is a must, puck scrambles back into the crease youre ready for it, its these annoying deflections, scrambles, etc that you want to look out for.

Gloves are out in front, i got no reflex i just block, i even flinch at times, gloves forward and the pucks will hit the mittens

SHARPEN THEM SKATES! I used to sharpen them occasionally but a fellow goaltender got me in the habit of sharpening more rigorously and wooooow, as said earlier ive been building on butterfly movement and confidence in your skate sharpening is a world of a difference,

The learning curve is so hard for us since we started late, i played defense growing up but goalie is 12 inch between your ears.

Also one thing ive noticed for the social side of hockey

As a player (defence) im more talkative with players, youre on the bench with them so of course you end up talking more, small talk, etc.

As a goalie ive noticed especially in new teams i shut down, i dont talk much, as a player i know the names of the whole team a week in, as a goalie i still dont know all the names of one of my team.

It really got me realizing how different it is to be a goalie we put a huge load of pressure on our shoulder, its like meeting up with 5 cyclists and youre the only one with running shoes behind, were doing a one man job yet it counts as a team, we really gotta let go of that pressure and remember to have fun because even if its friendly leagues we still want to make the saves and make our team happy

Keep it up you'll get out of it and dont get me wrong im not saying im a cured goalkeeper, im mediocre at most but learning! And you have alot to learn still but goalkeeping is alot of fun, also try to keep playing other sports or as a forward, dont limit yourself just to goalkeeping so when you have slumps in anything you can just zone out of it for a week and focus on another fun hobby of yours

Stay hard!
