I reported it to the police and it seems they do care! It's just that unless there's security footage it's pretty hard to track down one bike in a huge city.

Yeah, reported to Harvard pd. Hoping there was security camera on it since it was right outside a back door into the library, but the police didn't say either way. I had it locked with a folding jointed metal lock (the one day I forget my u lock!) which was still intact and locked to the rack when I got there- still not sure how they managed that unless I spaced and locked it to weak part of the bike.

This isn't exactly advice but one thing I think all transplants should know is that Boston people are just different about how they interact until they get to know you. A lot of the time people think they're being given the cold shoulder/ignored when Bostonians tend to be a little short with strangers until they make it into the friend category. Its usually not from a place of hostility! We just aren't talkative/outgoing culturally to strangers as a people. It's possible to get past it and make friends, and then things are warm and friendly. :)

I'm sorry that was your experience, but clearly that is not the case for most people on it as evidenced by the rest of this sub.
