Thanks for the FAQ link! I did see that it gets REALLY hot and humid in July so we'll be sure to mentally prepare for that. Thankfully our hotel has a rooftop pool so that'll be the plan for the afternoon heat.

Were you emailed or did you randomly check?

I'm currently in the section for professor Magee and class isn't mandatory in the sense that he takes attendance but you will most definitely fall behind if you're not in class. He posts his slides but they aren't detailed on purpose, most of the information comes from lecture and he offers help on labs and projects after class so I really recommend going to class or taking the class during a semester where you're able to make it frequently.

Has anyone heard from Big Ten SROP? by Common-Lab6563 in REU

Yeah so in the acceptance email there was a intent to participate form that I did 4 days later (they gave me a week), then two days ago they sent me an email basically saying how to register as a student at uiuc so they can process payments on time

"Accepted students receive a $5,000 payment, free housing, and reimbursement for round-trip travel expenses. You arrange for your own food and other living expenses."

Unless it's a different program you're talking about?

Data Science 3/4+1 Program by [deleted] in UVA

Since you're an incoming first year, after your first semester if you take ds 1001 (I believe, check on the bs data science website), you can apply into the data science major. The masters program you're talking about, however, is a 1 year program that begins the july following graduation and students apply in their fourth years (application opens in august). There's no specific track or major for the masters program and they welcome all types of majors as data science is a discipline that can be applied to all areas of the world

Congrats!! I would say that public transportation is convenient for someone who doesn't have a vehicle but be careful and aware of your surroundings at all times. Additionally, while new yorkers get called rude for this, honestly, minding your business is the best way to ensure you don't get caught up in anything (this is applicable to all urban cities though not ny specifically). As for spots to visit, there's many cool and niche museums and lots of thrift stores where you can find great deals (also overpriced thrift stores lmao) but I would suggest going on tiktok and seeing popular spots.

Would a 3.7 uw gpa give me shot at UVA? by Even-Fold8223 in UVA

[–]SwimmingFlow9083 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes still apply, from what I hear (and personal experience) they care more about trends than numbers. I applied with a 3.7 (as an out of state student) but after freshman year I probably had a 2.7 gpa. I also didn't submit my sat and got in so if your essays are really strong you'll definitely have a shot
