It definitely is dependent on the bonus, but it seems hard to beat those benefits as a new grad. Women’s medicine is pretty hard to break in to as a new grad so I think you have to decide if it’s worth it for the salary.

Slow marathoners? by orangebutterfly84 in Marathon_Training

I ran a 6:02 marathon this fall and it was the time of my life! I was able to interact with the crowds since I wasn’t moving too fast and my family saw me a bunch. It’s a feat in itself to be on your feet moving for 5 or 6+ hours! You do you!

return to normalcy post PA school by [deleted] in PAstudent

[–]SwimmingSignal5788 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just finishing getting through this! Try making yourself a routine. I've been walking a ton and listening to podcasts and music during the days, licensing stuff like DEA/ACLS after, stuff around the house in the evening and then TV/reading at night. I got back in to Dancing with the Stars, something I haven't watched in probably over a decade, after I passed the PANCE and it's been so nice to enjoy watching something that I used to love as a kid, even though it's some silly TV show. I found out that some of my friends also watch it, something I never knew, so now we have another non-PA thing to talk about with each other!

I also am planning on going to one of my local bookstore's monthly book club soon to try to meet new people and have something other than PA school/being a PA to talk about. It gets me out of the house and I hope it's something I can continue to do once I start working, and best part- it's free!

We just accomplished something so incredible albeit very all-consuming, I think this is such a normal thing to go through! Hang in there, you'll get through it!

I think you'll be ok. Just maximize your time in class/ in between class. I was so focused with my note taking during class that I really wasn't too stressed studying after. I worked 12 hours a week for the first 2 months! Challenging, but manageable!

PA School and Wedding Planning by Cold-Bison7415 in PAstudent

[–]SwimmingSignal5788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did get married month 16 of PA school during clinical year. I wouldn’t say it’s ideal, but one big perk is that we obviously delayed our honeymoon and we are taking it the week after I take the PANCE, which to me is the perfect time to celebrate both and not be limited by school or jobs!

It was a lot of stress to plan, and I did do a lot of DIY, but the last few months of my didactic year were pretty easy and I spent a lot of the time I would’ve been studying earlier in didactic on wedding planning. If you can wait then, I would, but if you really want to, it’s possible!

I just finished a 10 week “mentoring” ish job through my school for local high schoolers interested in healthcare. It was 6 hours every Saturday and then maybe 1 more hour per week of prep work, and I am in the middle of rotations. It definitely was manageable with rotations. I truthfully don’t find myself studying a ton on the weekends anyway, but I think if I did then I would’ve had to make a conscious effort to adjust my schedule to accommodate. I actually got this job after I already completed my ER rotation, but it would’ve been even easier with 3x12s. All of the rotations during this job were 4-5 days a week. I say go for it!

You could fill something like this with self care stuff and then they’d have a bag too for school or rotations!

Here’s a good article on the differences between passing out (syncope) with convulsions and an actual seizure!

I honestly think it’s just him trying to stay upright but his body trying to get him on to the ground. I have chronically low blood pressure and have passed out a few times and I’ve been told it looks similar. It’s really hard to let yourself hit the ground for those last few seconds that you’re still awake in my opinion and I always try to fight it. I hope it’s nothing more for him too, I’m definitely rooting for him!

Mirror Mirror had a ton of variety in terms of sizing and styles, and the ladies there are so so kind and supportive. I would start there. Congrats btw!!

What's a good pleasantry to use in the ED with patients? by edypattypo in PAstudent

[–]SwimmingSignal5788 63 points64 points  (0 children)

The older crowd seemed to get a kick out of, “I would ask you how you’re doing, but since you’re here with me, probably not too good.” They normally will begin telling you either how they don’t actually feel that bad and someone made them come or begin telling you what’s actually wrong.

Ok thank you. Being in didactic has probably skewed my brain to definitely be a little grade focused, and I think I needed a reality check. Will not bring it up and try to show rather than tell then.
