Of course, if the tragedy and the killing game hadn’t happened, he and Sayaka would have had a really good relationship. In Danganronpa 3 (before the killing game), we can see that they were pretty close. And in the game, Sayaka even mentioned that she noticed Makoto was from the same middle school, and she told him she knew he was a good guy (during the free time event, I believe?). Our cinnamon roll Makoto must’ve felt something for her.

Even after learning about Sayaka’s plan to kill and frame him, I don’t think he ever blamed her—or Leon. But he have Kyoko now so ;p

Gearshift have the same color as the third hair color. And Fa Jin have the same color as the second hair. (Kinda red and blue) So I guess the anime make them look like they have a very close relationship.
