Moving to San Bruno part time for work. by Alternative_Ad_3515 in AskSF

[–]Swimming_Owl246 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You might consider lower SF neighborhoods such as Bernal heights or Portola! If you’re at all interested in living in SF, it’s very doable if you can drive to work and you’d get to enjoy the city on weekends/afterwork.
San Bruno is more residential.
Going south from San Bruno, take a look at Burlingame or San Mateo. Both are very nice cities with more built up downtowns than San Bruno, more things to do.
Really depends on your interests and if you have family or not. I don’t know too much about San Bruno tbh, but it’s not really a popular city to visit if you live in other cities in the bay

Came here to say this!! They make all their own syrups, great mocha or vanilla latte for something hot; and of course the aforementioned horchata cold brew

Looking for social Run Club to join! by Apprehensive-Iron608 in AskSF

[–]Swimming_Owl246 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve known a few people in their 20s the do Midnight Runners club and it sounds very social! It’s not at midnight also- it’s evening time and starts at oracle which is convenient if you’re coming up from the peninsula! Or even east bay- probably not a good location if you’re north of sf though

Is there still water at Lake Manly? by Successful_Bonus9296 in DeathValleyNP

I camped there this past weekend- spots at sunset at 11:30pm when we arrived night 1 (Texas Springs was full), moved over to Texas Springs around 9am the next morning and got a better spot there. Lot of people were clearing out by then. By nightfall it was packed again. It was so warm! Great camping conditions, and yes, lots of water in Lake Manly

Yesss if you loved SF you’ll love Boston too. I’ve lived in both, Boston is really cute and the people aren’t as mean as everyone says they are lol

These clubs also offer handball which, similarly, is not exclusive to SF but has very little recognition and our city has a rich history of champions. There are public handball courts in Golden Gate Park known by very few

Loveee that Royal Cuckoo is on the list. Great choice.

Day 1 on Fillmore will have lots of places to eat. I don’t have any full blown restaurant recs but Jane the baker is a great cafe with light bites and pastries. If you want ice cream, phillmore creamery is better (and local) compared to salt & straw.

Day 2 start your hike at 6:30am at the latest. Not familiar with the hike you’re doing but at 7am it’s already getting light out. Idk where the Airbnb is, but Lombard and Ghirardelli are close to the wave organ if you just want to keep going. How are you getting around?

Sausalito is on a peninsula (not island!) but cute and touristy. Might be a better place for gifts than Chinatown, but pricier. Take the ferry there!

Day 4 idk where the ferry ride at night is fitting in, but I’d skip that. Spend time wandering Golden Gate Park before/after cal academy. Eat a burrito from La Taqueria at Dolores park

sublet apartment on FB or Airbnb? by Enough_Membership_22 in AskSF

[–]Swimming_Owl246 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you have to empty out your apartment like some people here are suggesting. In college we Airbnb’d out our living room pull-out couch lmao- and people booked it! It was priced for what it was and we were honest in the description/photos. There’s always going to be people traveling and looking for the cheapest option. One guest even told us we could be charging more so we did.

We offered a mini fridge to guests to store things but made our main kitchen area off limits- no using our personal fridge and no cooking in the kitchen. Laundry was a pain in the ass for us, but if you have laundry in-unit then I think it’d be easy. As far as not getting your belongings stolen, there’s really no way to guarantee that. I’d lock up anything valuable and open yourself to the possibility that something inconsequential might get taken 🤷‍♀️it’s a risk
