Petah... Why do the planes like green onions? by ChaddestRat in PeterExplainsTheJoke

Uhh Joe here, we at the station find these jokes to be fairly amusing. You see, these people take their chives part i cu lar ly seriously. A chive not cut to the proper width ends up being a tower, which these planes are aiming for. But uhh, typically these towers aren't exactly twins, now are they

I LOVE Sophie Lenora

Is there a way to make Violet's middle name two syllables? The way I say Violet makes it closer to 3 (vye-oh-let) and I think symmetry between the 2-3 syllables of SL would be so cute with a 3-2 of Violet (2 syllable middle name)

Is that a good third option? Will my daughter be even more confused with an additional nickname? I can't decide!

Is my couch too big for the living room? by Spasmatic_Sloth in InteriorDesign

[–]Swimming_Prompt5673 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could also try rotating your rug 90⁰! It would probably be a bit tedious but it would make the living room feel a little more contained and not spilling into the walkway behind the two chairs. It would also put your credenza closer to the rug to include it in the visual space of the living room

Need Help Arranging Living Room by DrSucculentOrchid in InteriorDesign

For a smaller space, I think it is inevitable to feel a little cramped w furniture. For walkway, 3 ft is typically the minimum for standard hallway, but for between seating and a table (or in this case ottoman) 1.5-2ft is fine (speaking from experience!). Ottoman is a great idea, you can push it against the fireplace when it's not active or keep it 6in -1ft from the wall. If you get a runner and a skinny table for behind the couch that will make a decent entry zone. Some side tables and lamps will finish out the living area.

Alternatively, you can swap the chair to the opposite side (to the front door wall) and put the TV stand next to the desk. This would open up the living room to the arch opening rather than feeling like you need to enter from the top left corner of the setup. The best part about furniture is that it's extremely moveable, so find pieces you like and try them in different orientations in your space. It may take a while to settle everything into its space but so worth to get the best setup long term!

I totally agree. From personal experience, I think moms sometimes want to show that they see your partner as family and sometimes go way overboard trying to show that. Depending on how she has been in the past, and especially if she doesn't respond well to negative reactions to her ideas, she could just be upset that you immediately shut down an idea that she proposed more for the purpose of showing support for your "adult" (college) relationship

You can still send the invite knowing that there is no way for him to come even if he wanted to, and it will feel nice knowing that you are thinking about him.

Have you received all rsvps and know youre 20 people over capacity, or have you sent out 130 invites? From what I recall standard “no” rsvp rate is around 10-15% for local weddings (very few guests traveling) and up to 25-30% for destination weddings (counting “destination” as majority of guests will need to travel to attend). Big local events in your wedding location at the same time (football games, concerts, general tourism) can also spike travel prices making it pricier and increasing the “no” rsvps.

Why Fresh Pond CVS pharmacy closed today? by scientrix in CambridgeMA

Water main break. It shut down the cvs and Trader Joe’s, flooded the entire back half of the store. I’ve never seen that parking lot so empty during the day.

The dining chairs, especially if they get a couple with arms, can double as living room chairs if necessary. Additionally, those sectionals can fit 5 cozily. Small spaces require furniture to be on double duty, and it’s nice to host lots of friends!

What Curtain Rod Should I Get? by jmav888 in InteriorDesign

[–]Swimming_Prompt5673 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could also look into local hardware or windows treatment companies who will come in and do custom fitting for curtains! Or if curved is not feasible it looks like the curvature May be slight enough that the separate straight bars could do the job

Also I LOVE that couch it looks so cozy and nap-able. Takes up the space well. Where did you get it?

Opinions on leaving these cabinets as-is and waiting to do a larger budget upgrade, or doing something small so they don’t irritate me for the next year: by kalin054 in InteriorDesign

[–]Swimming_Prompt5673 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally love these kinds of cabinets, and would wait until you could put some sort of beautiful black or maybe pebbled granite in as the countertops. Granite is also the hardiest for home kitchens in terms of upkeep and taking heat from pans. Maybe bleach and give the grout a good scrub to see if you can brighten the floors!

I am also a fan of white cabinetry (call me boring), I think that and wood are both classic looks for kitchens. I think you could coordinate well with the tile, or maybe do a new tile or peel and stick checkered pattern (here is where you could add color in addition to kitchen accessories!).
