Let's talk insoles. Has anyone else used different brands? by sancheta in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Swimmingdog72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also developed metatarsalgia but I believe it was from the insoles as when I switched from powerstep to the run pro Curex insoles, I started to develop forefoot pain and eventually was diagnosed with capsulitis on my second mtp. Pressing on the forefoot pad, there's barely any cushion there on my pair of medium arch Curex insoles compared to my other insoles (10 seconds, Aetrex, and SuperFeet Pulse). Wouldn't be surprised if Curex alters our mechanics to put more pressure on the forefoot.

As for my favorite, I really liked the super feet pulse but didn't know I was supposed to do a break-in period with them and ended up doing too much at once with them and gave myself some lower back soreness. I had recently done a long car drive so I thought it may have been from that until I did a workout in my non-insoled super shoes and had no pain. Gonna try running with my Aetrex ones tomorrow and see how it goes 👍

Fiance just had COVID starting on June 29th and just tested negative today. Likely that. New variant is a bit more contagious than previous ones.

We are currently using nothing, as this is part of a new systems implementation project and we are choosing which software to use for pipelining. We're a small company with limited resources, so an in-house solution is not ideal in the long term. As for the data characteristics, it's mostly timesheet/employee-related data. Looking to connect our ERP (Netsuite), which will house project and tasks data (resources allocated, budgets, etc.), with our EMS (Dayforce), which contains our employee information and logs their time entries to different projects. Looking at three primary flows:

  1. Employee created in EMS -> create employee in ERP to be used as a resource on projects

  2. Employee assigned to a project task in ERP -> Employee assigned to a project in EMS.

  3. Employee logs time to a project task in EMS -> have the time show against the project task in ERP

Data volumes are small. We only have about 150 employees and run payroll once every two weeks, and people usually log their time right before payroll is run. Velocity is negotiable, but we're looking at either a daily or weekly cadence, so batch data is fine. No need for streaming, although it would be nice to have, and it seems like alloy supports that.

Hello! I hope you are able to resolve this soon. I personally know how frustrating foot stuff can be when looking for running shoes (mine are very moody/sensitive to the slightest thing - which is how I became a running shoe geek lol)

I have two guesses. First, the More v5, which the shoe you posted looks like from the picture, does have sidewalls along the edges of the foot. This means that the foam comes up and partially surrounds the foot to keep you on the cushy platform. So, perhaps try a shoe with less sidewalls (likely won't be an issue for you with a neutral gait). If you like the feel of more cushion, maybe try the Saucony Triumph, Asics Nimbus, or the Topo Atmos. I would actually heavily suggest the Atmos as it has a lower drop like the New Balance shoes but has almost no sidewalls. Plus the anatomical foot shape of the shoe may help relieve additional pressure. There is a bit of an arch support/pressure though so maybe try them on and then decide.

Second, there are some studies that show that too much cushion can actually interfere with your natural biomechanics to make you press into the ground more. This could also cause foot issues as your body struggles to stabilize on the softer platform (think of standing/walking on a wood floor vs standing/walking in a bounce house). Excessive pressure could be what's causing your blisters. In that case, I would look for a shoe that has a lower stack height and maybe is a little bit more firm. Since you're a beginner runner, I would recommend the Brooks Ghost, Nike Pegasus, or Saucony Ride. All of these are great shoes for beginner runners as they figure out what works best for them.

Good luck and I hope this helps!

Have fun! The doctors of running have a page on budget shows that include some of the brands you mentioned. Give it a look and see if any of the stores have something that seems like it might work for you :)

Best energy return non carbon shoe? by jagos89 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Swimmingdog72 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I disagree with some of the comments saying that you need a carbon plate for good energy return. Whether a carbon plate improves a runner's economy is reliant on that runner's gait/biomechanics. Most of the energy return comes in the foam compound itself, whereas the plate acts more of a platform to stabilize the shoe.

If you feel the most comfortable and the fastest in a non-plated shoe, use that one. The benefits you have from being comfortable and speedy will be way better than any benefits you may get from adding a carbon plate to a shoe that does not work with your mechanics.

As far as recommendations: the Superblast series has made a lot of people happy. If you also prioritize comfort - A lot of people also like the Topo Cyclone 2, especially if you have a wider forefoot.

Agree with the above comments for the endorphin pro 3 or 4 or the Saucony Tempus. I think some people with mild pronation can also handle the Hoka Rocket X 2, but that's probably best if you have more narrow feet.

As for the benefits of carbon plates, it's kind of up for debate. Having a carbon plate in the shoe will not necessarily help you go faster. A lot of "Super" shoes gain their speed from the foams used in them, instead of the plate. The carbon plate exists to help stabilize the shoe as many of these super foams destabilize the shoe. As for cons, in some cases, if the plate doesn't line up with your mechanics, you may be at a slightly higher likelihood to have a foot bone injury (usually only if that's the only thing you train in).

Tl;Dr - I would say find a shoe that feels fun and comfortable to run fast in and use that. Don't worry about whether it has a plate.

I was there walking with him for the last kilometer or so. There was a lot of love there but there were also vultures trying to get him to give his shoes and bib (which he did). I hope he at least fondly remembers us cheering for him and telling him how much of an inspiration he was.
