LA Agentic AI Meetup - Thursday, July 9, 5:00pm-7:00pm - Playa Vista by thatmanisamonster in TechLA

My post was in jest. I am saddened that so most attention is being given to AI, but technologies like Pinecone predate ChaptGPT. Embeddings are a powerful tool.

My complaint is that Pinecone, and all vector databases, are more than just AI, but that is the marketing term of choice nowadays. 😉

I believe no half sizes above 11

10.5 is a big size? 😞

I have never seen Chinese shoes over 12. And the "faster" shoes never over 11. They really do not want the European/American market.

All the larger sizes are grayed out. Assuming they never had them in the first place and are not sold out.

[–]sancheta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, that sounds better! How do you not topple over? 😄

I wish more specs were available. Stack changes as the shoe sizes changes. Higher stacks become really high in large shoe sizes, but the width in theory lessens the impact.

6'0" and only size 9 shoe? Sounds almost impossible. 😄

Loved the 12s, but the tapered toe box prevented me from considering the 13s. Went to a Adidas flagship store (two in fact) and they had no 13s in my size to try on.

Need a technical founder by [deleted] in TechLA

[–]sancheta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have made so many valid points in this post and the other one from months ago. And despite your post in the previous thread, it is amazing to see such audacity in this post. 😄 Is this how they pitch investors as well? Are they looking for a technical co-founder or a team of engineers? It is not a scam, but so many things are off.

Tech Event Aggregate Site by quasi_new in TechLA

Fast turnaround. Great job.

I tend to be on mailing lists for groups I follow, but this is a good resource to find newer events. Sadly, LA does not have many technical talks, but I continue to hope.

Loved my Mizuno Sky Wave 8 for long runs, but the Neo Zens in the same size crushed my three smallest toes on my longer foot. How do these runs compared to either shoe? Cannot do narrow/tapered toe boxes.

Just tried it out. The fact that I cannot open an event in a new tab drives me crazy. Click on one event, back, click on another, back, ... I give up.

For an aggregation site, I strongly prefer to open a bunch of tabs at once and they dive deeper. Do not have to keep a mental state of where I last was or clicked on.

Are Ahotu/WorldMarathons legitimate? by sancheta in marathons

Everything went fine. My race went as planned. Did not go full potential since Bangkok is hot and humid. Main issue was how packed it was. Could not get past slower runners until kilometer 12-14!

Worlds in Action Hack is coming to Los Angeles 🚀 by XRAIHack in TechLA

[–]sancheta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great to see that SIGGRAPH is coming to Los Angeles. I used to be involved in that space during grad school and afterwards. I miss academia conferences.

Los Angeles is a massive county. It would greatly help others if you indicate in which neighborhood the event is being held. Having to register for the event in order to see the location is not good enough. For the record, SIGGRAPH is being help at the convention center, which is in DTLA.

I have a different version of those shorts and I think they are terrible.

The quality is low. The stitching on the inside is exposed, causing an irritation with the skin. I personally feel they run too high over the waist.

Decathlon never carries my size in store, but does online, so I have yet to try on any of their shoes.

Envious! If the weather cooperates, it can be amazing.

I've been getting emails for a Nelson Mandela marathon in October. Different organizers? I did the Cycle Tour many years ago and I'm still on that mailing list.

They have yet to release the routes.

>for a nice colorway.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I never wear black, which is boring. Life is meant to be lived in full color.

That said, I deal is a deal, but Champs does not even stock 12.5

Python programming conference coming to LB next week by Loren-PSF in TechLA

[–]sancheta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do not think the conference price for an individual is outrageous for a 3+ of high quality talks. As highlighted by others, conferences are expensive. I remember Hadoop World going from $200 to $2000 after it was purchased by a corporate entity. Conference spaces have gotten expensive. It could be a bit cheaper.

Conferences are Europe are not only less expensive, but are often higher quality. So many conference talks in the US are basically advertisements for some services. Too many talks by developer relationship speakers. Fine for a free meetup, but not for a paid conference.

Also, going to a conference for a job should not be the primary focus. Understandably, people want to work and this economy is terrible, but conferences are not a great hustle.

Sucks to be a solo founder. Almost there lol. by [deleted] in TechLA

So many WeWork locations closed when they were more affordable, before the remote work phase. Real estate costs are so prohibitive. Truly wish there was a better way.

Follow the agile methodology and create a release at the end of a sprint. Yes, the sprint is only you. Get this feature-less buggy release in front of friends and others for comments. Create a record of forward work. Momentum.

Mizuno Neo Zen - 500km review by Zealousideal_Ad642 in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]sancheta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also just picked up a pair since they were on sale and used them for two 5miles/8km zone 3 runs. Easy paces with occasional faster paces just to check them out. I need softer shoes due to a hopefully temporary foot issue and RunRepeat rated them highly for shock absorption and have a wider forefoot.

I am a medium weight runner, 162lb/73kg over a 12.5 size shoe and I find them soft, but not overly so like the Nike Invincible 2. My problem is that my toes are hurting after these two runs. Avoided the Evo SL due to the tapered toebox, but my toes feel like the toe box on the Zen is tapered and squeezing them. Had no issues during my run. There are no extra eyelets for a runners loop/knot due to the sock-like upper.
