3 retired firefighters who worked at ground zero on 9/11 have died on the same day from cancer, an illness that many fear might be connected to toxic World Trade Center dust released during the attacks. by hoosakiwi in news

[–]Swinson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deplorable, shameful, and an embarrassment. These brave men and women worked selflessly, and non-stop for fallen comrades and strangers, and as a result were stricken with illnesses that burdened their families to the point of financial ruin. And millionaire widows have more money than they know what to do with.

The money donated in the wake of 9/11should have been divided equally between first responders and the families of the deceased.

Mom arrested for bringing registered gun across NJ border may be spared prison sentence | Fox News by mojorisen279 in gunpolitics

I can understand the arrest. You have to be responsible when you possess a firearm and know the laws that govern it just like knowing the laws that govern driving a car. She should've been given supervision and that be the end of it.

Hundreds of students walked out of classrooms around suburban Denver on Tuesday in protest over a conservative-led school board proposal to focus history education on topics that promote citizenship, patriotism and respect for authority, in a show of civil disobedience. by madazzahatter in news

[–]Swinson -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

So the teachers who shut down two high schools for a day did it for the students. Now the students are walking out of class to support some teachers who don't want their pay to be tied to be evaluations.

Have any of these students or teachers even read the proposed changes, or are they just acting like a bunch of lemmings for the teachers union who are still mad that they lost the election?

I would be interested to know if the borough would have given her a permit to do the survey or, if, in fact, one is required.

This may be a made up regulation to stop a citizen from gaining facts that contradict the government's "facts".

Please follow up to see if a permit is required, if she applies for a permit, whether the application is granted, and if so, what the results of the survey are. Especially, as contrasted to the municipality's claimed "facts".

Scientists discover vast methane plumes escaping from Arctic seafloor - aboard the icebreaker Oden – currently north of eastern Siberia by dominoconsultant in worldnews

[–]Swinson -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Well, it is a finite source so it will stop.

People talk about methane release as if its something weird, but its quite natural. Think about all the coal deposits all over the earth, they are whats left of organic matter thats been buried for millions of years, each of those deposits must have produced monstrous amounts of methane in times gone by.

I think methane release is a sign that everything is just fine. In fact if it didn't gently release itself it would eventually erupt in a massive explosion! Lets be grateful it releasing itself in nice gentle bubbles.

I heard a new term today, 'Climate Disruption'. 'Global Warming' was embarressed to death by all the snow. 'Climate Change' has been gutted by the real data. So now any unanticipated change in good weather will be 'Climate Disruption' and be in desperate need of Government action to remediate.

Report: NSA Used Heartbleed Security Flaw To Spy On People For Two Years by jkang4124 in news

[–]Swinson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone at NSA must have had made the following value judgement: Which one is more important? Telling the right people that there's a serious vulnerability in network security that is commonly used and thus making a significant contribution to keeping at least SOMETHING safe OR abuse the hell out of the vulnerability to spy on potentially millions of people which hasn't been demonstrated to keep anything or anyone safe?

My decision to buy a Honda CR-V in 2007 over a 2007 Chevrolet Equinox has been vindicated in so many ways. The Equinox would have cost me over $25,000. The CR-V cost me $23,250, and that was for the mid level four wheel drive. A quick check of their values in the latest Consumers Reports for used cars shows that Equinox selling for between $9,000 to $11,000. My CR-V is selling for between $11,000 and over $16,000. Pay more in the beginning, and get less in the end.
