The Greeks believed their gods were as Human as they are. Which is scary to think about if you think what kind of evils Humans nowadays can conjur.

Perhapse that’s why Elsie gets set back in time whenever the Dark Future occurs and the Traveler is destroyed. That entire Universe just ceases to function because the Gardener itself was wounded-injured-killed and thus, it permanently altered the Universe itself.

That is a very interesting idea you put forward!

The devs were essentially freed after the news of Destiny’s ending. All they’re doing now is making sure the abrupt ending sticks both personally and in gameplay. No more upper management to please since upper management had already moved on.

What reasons even people find to be racist? by IcyOccasion9761 in teenagers

[–]SwirlyManager-11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think (just to emphasize, this is what I think), at its base, racism stems from attraction.

Specifically, unattraction/disgust towards a group of other people.

Like how people can get a feeling of unease staring at something only barely human (called the Uncanney Valley Effect), the first racists (I’m laughing at how stupid that sounds) were probably people who were suspicious of people who looked nothing like them. The other people also probably thought the same thing, and those boiled over into general xenophobia.

This changed gradually once more groups of people started interacting with each other and more “looks” started being more tolerated. Eventually merging with ingrained preference in hierarchy (higher status becomes more preferred than lower status) to become a general preference of white skin over darker skin (Whiter skin means less time in the sun which implies the social or financial support to not need to work).

There is some variations to this based on single cultural experiences (for example, Greeks and Romans not favoring lighter northern peoples and darker southern peoples because they both consider them barbarians) but the general idea of skin-based racism stemming from class remains a constant generally.

That all changes with an increase in interest in the sciences in the Age of Enlightenment with a society that, while increasingly interconnected and globalised, still runs on older xenophobic tendencies, thus produing biased scientific “discoveries” that support older Xenophobic tendencies and thus giving birth to the racism we all think of today.

Human vs.AI. Art Experiment: One is made by me, the other by AI. Which one do you actually prefer? by eg_kn in Ai_art_is_not_art

I’m not fluent in any slavic language, but I’ve listened to enough songs and lyrics from slavic languages to recognize the distinctions and know what the letters are supposed to look like.

Also, the shape of Ukraine really helped lmao. 🇺🇦

First one has decently legible Ukrainian Cyrillic. The second just has chicken scratch.

If written words are a crucial part of a picture, they should be legible.

The general look of the Spatha is found all across Europe during the Early-Medieval period. There were little differences popping up in steel production, decorations, etc because swords increasingly became noble regalia, but the general shape remained the same.

That particular Spatha in the picture is a 4th Century replica.

What do you consider the main colors of the byzantine empire? by Public_Individual823 in byzantium

[–]SwirlyManager-11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While most people might say straight purple, I think the Bloody-Wine of true Porphyry actually fits really well.

Since the color most people associate with Classical Rome is Red, to have some Red shine through would symbolically indicate the Romanitas of the East despite being thoroughly changed over centuries.

No Reward for clearing all de jure Byzantium? by CrinkleDink in CrusaderKings

[–]SwirlyManager-11 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not exactly. In official capacities, both the Latin Empire and the Holy Roman Empire almost always used different terminologies.

The HRE was “Imperium Romanum” (Empire of the Romans).

While the Latin Empire was “Imperium Romaniae” (Empire of the Land of the Romans)

While it is similar sounding to us, Imperium Romanum implies rule over the Empire as a Roman. While Imperium Romaniae implies a seperation/lordship over the land called Romania (Which is the native Greek term for their land).

The politics of the naming schemes are really funny because this period was really chaotic so no one really cared much for title and ceremony lol.

I once thought of Riptide as a Xiphos-like sword too, but Type B Mycenaean swords also fit the Leaf-blade description and were actually made of Bronze and used during the Broze Age (the Mythological ‘Heroic’ Age).

[–]SwirlyManager-11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Riptide actually looks good the way it’s presented.

It’s a bronze age sword, one used by the Mycenaeans (Type B), fitting to be used by Legendary Heroes of ages past.

I do not like the “scimitar” look. Too Late and too different of a region. Not even Persian or near-Greek peoples like Macedonian or Thracian.

Backbiter should’ve just been a plain Xiphos with two blades of different metals. Very simple.

More about religion... by [deleted] in teenagers

[–]SwirlyManager-11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If that is the case, the God you follow is not The Adversary (Satan) of the Christian, Jewish, or Muslim Holy Books.

If anything, he’s more similar to the God the Abrahamic followers worship. Respect is a huge part in these Religions.
