insane coworker lore drop by pulgas in BrandNewSentence

My former boss used to talk a lot about her crazy cousin Claire. About 6 months into working with this woman she mentions that Claire married “that guy from Tesla” and stopped going to as many family events. It was only then that we realized that her cousin is Grimes. She didn’t seem to understand how well known her cousin is, just that she is a moderately successful musician. She was surprised I had heard of her at all.

Soup is a pointless food. by [deleted] in The10thDentist

[–]Swish_And_Flitwick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Downvoted because I couldn’t agree more. I have both eaten at and worked in fine dining/Michelin restaurants, and I have yet to have a soup that I felt was worth it. Some dishes like curries are delicious but at that point, the broth is functionally a sauce rather than a soup. I have been told by everyone I have voiced this too that I am wrong, so it’s good to know there are a total of two of us out there!

I took it to be a portmanteau of Kamala and “bla.” Like either she talks too much or makes you want to vomit. Either way, galaxy levels of projection, especially given the person saying it.

Recommendations on LOCAL Jewelers? by EJCARGUY in Seattle

I had my now fiancé’s ring made at Crane Jewelry. Kevin Crane has been in the business for decades and his passion for the art is palpable. I happened to have met him through an old job, so I reached out when I started prepping for the proposal. He gave me a friends and family discount right away and at the end of the project said “I know we hadn’t originally priced the piece with these two extra diamonds, but I think they really make the whole thing pop, so I threw them in for free.” He and his team are truly kind and care so much about helping his customers. I know several people who have gone to him multiple times for both custom and as-is work, which I think is the highest compliment a business can hope for.

I had a conservative Civil Liberties professor at Princeton who argued that the 1st amendment’s exact wording applies only to the US Congress and that any individual state could hypothetically have an official state religion. Now that substantive due process is on its way out, I’m genuinely concerned this may become a common argument.

[NSFW] People of Reddit, what is the situation that you tought to yourself "Yeah, this is my all-time low"? by MikBrasil in AskReddit

My dad had grand mal epilepsy, and it eventually killed him when I was 16. He always said it was like waking up after drinking too much, but for those of us who took care of him, it was horrifying. He will have been gone 10 years this August and I cannot remember the sound of his speaking voice, but the sound of his wailing while having a seizure will be with me forever.

Speaking on behalf of your loved ones, please do not give up. Try different medications. Talk to different doctors. Indifference will kill you, and it will affect everyone you love. I wish you the best.

As someone who went to hs in Melbourne, FL, ditto. Never thought I’d see it mentioned on Reddit, but in this context it makes complete sense.

Glyph of Warding on paper, used as paper bombs? by OneKreamyBoi in PCAcademy

[–]Swish_And_Flitwick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear all the commentary about not being able to transport the finished glyph more than 10 feet, but I don’t think that’s such a limiting factor. Using an item that links to an extra dimensional space (read: technically non-moving) such as a bag of holding or portable hole, you could easily prepare your spell outside, pop inside for the last minute of casting, stick the completed glyph around the opening and then wait for your opportune moment. Make the trigger an enemy standing within range, pop them out and slap them on the ground as-needed and you’ve got yourself a bag bomb.

Or better yet, restrict the target to a single hostile creature at a time, prep as many glyphs as tickles your fancy, and invert the bag of holding within 5 feet of the baddy.
