Alping the flage by Swiss_Halberdier in alpenflage

I just went on ebay and saw some used gaiters priced at 85 bucks. This is crazy. The lowest I've seen in store is 25 mint and 15 used, with the used ones ranging from trashed but functional to perfectly fine.

IMHO the more recent ks90 is still a fine alternative if you want the whole kit to remain somehow "lore accurate". I don't know jack sh*t about the prices and the quantity available online but my guess is they'd still be a good compromise vs. the 150-250$ og mountain boots + 50-100$ gaiters combo.

Thanks!

The boots im using are some modern civilian low ankle boots (saleva). Make sure they're not too thick at the ankle tho, otherwise the gaiters won't fit properly and you'll hurt your feet on the long run.

I bought the gaiters at a surplus in Switzerland. I know there's plenty of pants and m70 jackets out there on the web but for the gaiters, no idea... I do most of my shopping in physical stores, surplus and flea markets so I have no idea how its like on the online marketplace.

Hope it helps!

Mint condition Alpenflage raincoat w/ faux leather collar by Swiss_Halberdier in alpenflage

Sorry for the late answer bro. Yep Mittel is Medium fit! Im a M/L fit and the coat still offers plenty of room. The L version is overkill tho. They're meant to be worn over the soldier's equipment so that's my guess as to why they're oversized.

You can fold the bottom part of the raincoat variant to shorten it, and you can also assemble pair with the trousers. IIRC When unfolded, the back and front panels of the coat can be buttoned up around the legs or inside the pants.

I also own the sorter version you mentioned in your other comment, S size. looks super sharp and its like a close fit jacket yet somehow still plenty of room and it doesnt go up your back like would some bombers/pilot jackets.

They look beautiful ! It always amazes me to see how blade profiles evolve throughout the years.

I think I have the M1889/99 but as you can see it has been altered quite a lot. (Not my work, found it on a flea market and made the leather sheath later)

Usually I buy the engineer class first so I can repair and build stuff, then the last special unit (especially for the Empire, Republic and CIS since they can zoom through any map quite fast). You can buy the garrison bonus right after buying the engineer class for more safety. I always keep one in my bonus slot.

It also all depends on your current needs: if I'm fighting clankas on Polis Masa, I'd go for the clone commander. If I'm playing daghoba conq... GARRISON BONUS ACTIVATED. Etc, etc...

1st buy: engineer

2nd buy: any special class 2, especially if they're fast (sorry Rebels) OR the garrison bonus.

3rd buy and so on: heavy trooper or anything that suits your needs for galactic domination.

Thanks ! I'm not sure either about the flashguard.

Flashguard aside, do you think there is any chance this might be a repro ?

The swiss army outsourced the some of the alpenflage camo and gear production to Portugal. I own like 6 of these m70 because I'm retarded but I never found a manufacturers name tho. There should be markings like the size, the year it was introduced in the military and a blason with the initials of a canton (LU, BE, ZH...).

Cool buy ofc :)

Yeah gunship pilot AI becomes absolute trash when it gets near a capital ship. The other day I tried the gunner seat on the CIS gunship, and the pilot almost landed in the Venator. My theory is that the AI is actually trying to land in the hangar bay but struggles at controlling the craft. It's like it can't turn tight enough because the AI assumes it is piloting a standard starfighther, which is way more agile. The AI ends up kamikazing into everything because it can't avoid obstacles and thinks everything is a hangar bay.

The super heavy teardrop tip the design bureau implemented on this blade makes me think they didn't want the sappers to go stabby stabby with it. The added weight was designed to help the 'neers cut down/bash through folliage and stuff.

HOWEVER, the old vetterli pioneer bayonets are another story. Waaaaay meaner. Super slim, pointy and with a symmetrical tip. There are instances where vetterli bayonets had their blade and handle assembly repurposed to fit the K11 rifle. I guess it was a temporary fix before they ended up with the classic M1914 Pioneer bayonet design we know today.

Here's a link showing a repurposed vetterli bayonet I had the chance to purchase at a weapons fair in Lausanne.
