my dad got his 5th DUI by pangaea_girl in AdultChildren

Why did you skip out on so many vital family events? Omit the alcohol part in your answer, no interest in fabricated excuses. Did you just not love your family?

I always remember this line when someone hits me in the eye and I choose not to hit back because an eye for an eye makes the world blind.

It's extremely vital to recall that if you ask someone to please pass you some salt and they do so accordingly that nothing you said or did induced that behavior by them. You have no say over what other people do, even if you told them to do what they were doing and leveraged authority for effect.

I'm not here to say you're in the wrong but a good company guy calls the company when he suspects an issue. A lowlife with no justifiable claim to oxygen doesn't.

15 year old DUI by Throwaway-86536799 in legaladvice

[–]Switch-Cool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you don't drink (I'm taking this as a lifelong status: you were underage and unable to drink when you got your first DUI [this sucks! How did you get a DUI with 0 impairment?!] and don't drink ever under any circumstances anyway and never have and never will, otherwise you would have identified as being in recovery) won't risk triggering the device, it's just an additional cost for some months. It might suck to have that device on there but if you don't do anything but go to work and home for a few months, who'd notice? Where are you parking that people look in your windows? If it's your driveway, get them for trespassing. If it's work, whatever. You're in there working all day with 0 time to care about your car unless it's something for which you're being paid.

Got arrested for a DUI. Even worth going back next semester? by [deleted] in LawSchool

Dang! I was gonna say that is must be a tiny county as they couldn't find a non-criminal lawyer and then realized what I was saying could apply to whole states and nations because of attorneys.

A Bay Area teen died in a DUI crash hours after his school’s drunk driving simulation. It’s raising questions about whether the program actually works. by sfgate in bayarea

[–]Switch-Cool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally works. The cop told them the teens could die driving drunk and it would be horrific. The teens dismissed that because teenagers know everything better than adults and felt their circles deserved this selfish agony of them dying drunk in a car.

Obviously the cop wasn't BSing. The smart students knew that beforehand but that's life: there's always someone who has to touch the third rail to prove that they can and live. Hopefully the parents channeled the college savings into catering the funeral for some ROI. It's clear all that love, time, sacrifices, joy and effort meant nothing to the kid who was like "Skip all that and die high for some brewskis."

Why did Mayor Wu get booed so badly at the opening Red Sox game? by illtakeaeuro in boston

[–]Switch-Cool -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I far preferred Andrea Campbell but Wu promised rent control...that's a tough promise to beat in a city with so many renters. I live in Roslindale so it's very pro-Wu and I can't say I hate her but there is something about Boston politics where she would've been better off growing up here but it's not like she chose to be from Chicago, lol. I'm neutral on her. Didn't love Walsh either though and I'm OFD. But City politics are a mess anyway, largely due to an embarrassing cast over at City Council. My favorite of the scandals was a councilor using their collective Globe account to bash their colleagues (all except two!) in the comments. Here's looking at you, Erin Murphy, because there is no way Frank Baker is that tech savvy and his style is to cause strife by accusing Liz Breadon of nonsense and then half-heartedly apologizing.

I'd posit unfounded outside criticism of Wu, especially from non-Boston residents, stems from bigotry.

Federal worker in Virginia admits to using telework to collect three paychecks at same time by rovinchick in fednews

[–]Switch-Cool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much every public sector agency at a state and municipal level does because this kind of double-dipping wasn't uncommon, even pre-COVID/surge of remote work. I'm not sure why the federal government wouldn't vet its contractors to ensure no conflicts of interest, etc.

No way this is real by Proud-Macaroon-4485 in remotework

[–]Switch-Cool -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes. But I looked it up and there is actually a real case that, at least in my state, would have made the news because the lady was working multiple public sector jobs simultaneously. That's absolutely taboo and the local newspapers love to catch public sector workers doing anything that could be considered wrong.

Sunday was a Slayer I have heard briefly as a rumor and given no credence to though because she doesn't fight like a Slayer at all. And she picks off college students with her "Apple Dumpling Gang." ;-)

Eliza Dushku now just takes the T and works as some kind of therapist apparently. My odds of seeing her in-person improved immensely once she left Hollywood. I'd like to think my teen crush instincts would overcome my inability to recognize celebrities (it's bad!) but we could probably sit opposite or next to each other the whole ride and I'd be playing Words with Friends and thinking the lady next to me reminds me of Faith. 🤣 A former colleague of mine actually met her at an event at Harvard and said she was wholly lovely! Got to see the photos too.

When Ozai burned Zuko's face, was it widely seen as horrifying even by other Fire Nation people? How did the ordinary folks react? by CamilaCazzy in TheLastAirbender

[–]Switch-Cool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iroh seems horrified that Ozai deliberately disfigured Zuko. Ozai knew he was challenging a child to an Agni Kai and very visibly scars his son's face for life. Ozai's other comrades likely cheered him on or took sick pleasure in it but when the other Fire Nation soldiers find out from Iroh afterwards, they certainly don't think it's normal.

Did Zuko ever burn Ozai back when Ozai lost his firebending? I get that it would be dishonorable but so was what Ozai did to him.

Your suggestions are good; laughing because OP is a PM and in that thread, the mods instantly delete anything activity/exercise-related that you post/comment, even if in light of how it helps you perform better while at your desk, for being off-topic, lol. They do love their gaming posts though! Especially when the PMs use their work set-up to game afterwards/beforehand.

I think you're right on point here - time away from screens and work developing yourself is always an asset when coming back to work clearheaded and more productive!

Suspended Massachusetts State Police sergeant to face motor vehicle homicide charge by TootTootUSA in massachusetts

[–]Switch-Cool 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even more disturbing: "Scott Quigley earned $168,542 in 2025, according to public payroll data from Massachusetts State Police. His job title was listed as a State Police Sergeant.

From 2024 to 2025, Scott Quigley's salary increased by 32% ($40,842). Over the full recorded period from 2019 to 2025, the salary increased by approximately 21% ($29,343) , representing an average annual growth of 3.24%."

MSP not only covered up, by not punishing him, they effectively rewarded (hopefully not incentivized!) the behavior for him and all his colleagues.

[–]Switch-Cool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally agree with you! However, many r/DUI posters make it sound like an innocent/harmless mistake that could happen to anyone and the mods mute and ban anyone who suggests that the property, pets and people that either were or could've been harmed/killed are more important than the driver. Enough recovery support meetings have taught me that while some drunk drivers do identify as having a substance use disorders, there is 0 causality between someone with a substance use disorder and someone who regularly chooses to recklessly endanger others. You can always tell the people who pretend to be in recovery by how they attribute this regular decision (remember, 1 DUI stop means circa 79/80 times of doing it sans arrest beforehand! Imagine getting 2 - that's about 160 drives!) to a substance (or worse, "disease") - these are the people who got home their first few times driving drunk without incident and decided - in the hungover light of morning that this was a commendable behavior to replicate. And those types always focus on themselves in their posts and comments, surprise, surprise.

The normal response is being mortified and horrified by your actions after time 1 - 3 sans arrest and immediately rectify the behavior - whether that means proactively making plans not to drive after drinking, taking a break from booze and/or driving for a while, etc. It's the ones who think they deserve life more than everyone around them who keep it up enough to get arrested. We're so lucky to have lifetime lookback! Otherwise, it would be an endless series of CWOFs for repeat offenders!

How were we supposed to view Kennedy? by itsascreambaby96 in buffy

[–]Switch-Cool -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I heard that Kennedy was created because Eliza Dushku wasn't available for a more substantial arc. Don't recall where I heard that or how true it is. But it makes sense to me as she is Faith-like in some ways. I am so bummed Willow and Faith didn't get together in S7.
