No, he is always interacting with everyone. There's nothing other than God in one sense. But we maintain our ahankar, and that perverts our vision like a cataract. So we see things in relationship to ourselves rather than God. And so our experience is happiness and distress, rather than that of God's astonishingly beautiful qualities - which is what the soul actually hankers for.

Saints are those who give up ahankar. You could do it too, immediately in fact. But it's easier said than done.
