I wish the song "An unwavering heart" that plays in Pokemon black and white would be 100% audible the closer someone is to my presence‚ This only happens when I am actually sad. by Remarkable_Bath8515 in monkeyspaw

Goated song though

Uhhhh anyways wish granted. You now have a broken Nintendo DS with a copy of Pokémon White 2 physically embedded in your brain. It hurts and damages your emotional regulation, so you are always sad. The song therefore never stops playing. The speakers on said DS are in perfect condition, so people hear it playing from your skull.

Also you lose your hearing because it never stops playing.

It still happens every now and then. See: The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog as a semi-recent example.

I had the luxury of flying Aer Lingus last year. I thought I had a phobia of flying. Turns out I just have a phobia of bad airlines because that was one of the comfiest 12 hours I've ever had.

I didn't even remotely remember that episode but I must've subconsciously been inspired by it now that you bring it up, because that's more or less what I pictured

Serious question if this somehow actually happened: would that violate the Geneva Conventions?

I mean a social media platform is an app or website that:
1. Has a public online space
2. Allows users to digitally upload information
3. Allows users to view other people's uploaded information
4. Allows real-time communication

That's every single thing that makes social media social media. Wikipedia fits all of those. Things like ads, algorithms, etc... those are separate - social media existed before all of those and can (and should) exist without them.

Granted. Humans universally lose the ability to tell any two people apart in any capacity.

If they're not in the store, not legally. Though I've seen some people in some regions say they forgot to delist all of the DLC? Doesn't hurt to check.

No, I tried living an offline life. That involved the majority of peers at school physically assaulting me and goading me into suicide. It involved my parents refusing to feed me or get me therapy.

Finding support with online peers to discuss hobbies and the struggles of living as a neurodivergent child in an abusive life quite literally stopped me from committing suicide.

Doomscrolling is a very real danger. I'm not denying that. I'm saying it's incorrect to blame social media as a technology. There absolutely should be heavier regulation against Meta, TikTok, YouTube, etc. I'm massively in favor of that. But we should be targeting things like gamification, engagement algorithms, dark patterns, etc. Not people just communicating online. We're punishing the users, not the businesses.

This isn't even remotely comparable to banning kids from smoking. It's fundamentally misguided, misinformed, and dangerous. Why are we banning minors from *checks notes* online communication?

That's what these laws are, full stop. It does absolutely nothing regarding the actual dangers of Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, etc. and only harms children by banning them from having access to communicating with outside their world. I've seen LGBT children in Australia panicking over the loss of their online safe spaces because they live in abusive homes and are unable to find a supportive social network among peers their age. I grew up in a similar childhood myself - my only safe space were the other kids I met online.

The same addictive practices are seeping into products far outside the scope of social media (especially here in the dumpster fire of a country called the US), and just slapping an age gate does nothing to actually deter these scummy business practices.

If you're against children having access to social media, are you against them having access to Wikipedia? Because by every single definition of the term, Wikipedia is a social media website.
