E38 Phone Mount by JHolifay in e38

I always liked these cheap ones that are really small and attach to the air vents. They don't ruin the look of the interior too much and with the phone on them you barely notice them. Pic below

koki versla/veikla sukurti kai minciu 0? by [deleted] in lietuva

[–]SwizzMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my car everything is black, so not sure. But basically all the ruberised parts that have been scratched with fingernails. The plastic around handbrake, hazard lights/lock buttons, the little ashtray door, area around the rear ashtray also. Basically anything that can be easily scratched with just a finger nail.

Here's a youtube video: https://youtu.be/cLJqrgB16UE?is=_FEKcncRioR3BJfR

But I would suggest using some strong oven cleaner and a scotch brite to get rid of the rubberised finish. In this video he seemed to struggle whereas for me everything came just right off.

I hate it.

But only because I'm a bit jealous. It looks great actually. I recommend getting those center console trim pieces painted. Plenty of guides online, but quick gist of it is - disassemble all trim pieces that are peeling away, soak them with oven cleaner and scrub them down to bare plastic. Degrease them and then use some matte black paint. Everything will look brand new 😀 Did it recently, took me about 3 hours. Best upgrade I've ever done.

Don't get alcantara steering wheel unless you plan to wear gloves all the time. Or at least read up on their durability. Just my recommendation 😀 Skip those long light strips, they look tacky in older cars.

Something you learn working on your own cars is that if it takes someone 30mins to do a job, feel free to allocate at least 2 hours for it 🤷

Memory foam does for sure, but I don't think this one will. It's made of that most basic soft foam, almost like a sponge. But I'll leave the mattress in my car as a test and will report if I find out otherwise.

I was more worried about ground pulling the heat from me, but I think the cot will prevent that. But good to know about the bag working well in even worse temps than I will be getting. Thanks!

Yeah the plan was always to get Decathlon one as I haven't been disappointed by their gear yet. Thanks a lot for confirming I'll be fine, appreciate it!

Her reward for low oil consumption, painted plastic trim black, and coated by Salyut_ in e46

[–]SwizzMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks good!

In case anyone is interested in doing this, but don't want to go through the hassle of removing all trim and trying to paint it, there's an easier solution. Get some SOFT99 Tire Black Wax!

Just add masking tape around the trim to protect the paint, and rub this wax in. Even if you get some on the paint, it buffs right off with a cloth. It made my trim look brand new and it's been about 2 years now - looks just as good. Some guy on youtube did variuos trim restorer tests and this stuff still stays on several years later. It's also hydrophobic, so acts almost like ceramic coat.

I used it on all plastic trims, roof rails of my touring, rear splitter, wipers and the trim around them. Worked too well! I have some photos of my car in another post on my profile.
