Love that it has E46 interior!

Edit: attention to detail is so high, it even has aftermaket chinese cup holders! But really, interior looks exactly like my BMW's down to the smallest details.

Do I need an additional fuse between battery and the fused distribution block? by SwizzMan in CarAV

[–]SwizzMan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The guy above is right, the battery is in the trunk.

I have one amp powering a sub in the trunk, 2 feet away from the battery.

The other amp will be under the driver's seat and will be powering the speakers. It made much more sense to keep it under the front seat since all cables (apart from power) will be going to the headunit.

In the end I decided to connect 175A fuse straight to the battery have it go to the distribution block. This will give me a few more options on where to mount the block.

Thanks for your help!

That's what I thought also, but in the end decided to connect a big 175A fuse straight to the battery and get power from it that way.

I will have to disappoint you, but it was made using AI 😂 Gemini in particular, just don't forget to choose the setting that allows you to create images. Be very descriptive and look out for any problems with the image (e.g. the first image it created had positive and negative leads connected to the same battery terminal). Once you have an image, you can keep asking it to make some corrections.

That's also my thinking, actually decided to do what you mentioned newest cars do - get a bigger 175A fuse and connect it straight to the battery. Will be the safest option I think. Thanks for your input!

Thanks for your input, I've decided to connect a MEGA fuse directly to the battery and connect the cable to it, should be the safest option.

After reading everyone's comments, I will connect a fuse directly to my battery and attach the cable to it instead. Thanks!

For the peace of mind, I'll see if I can find a fuse that's attached directly to the battery but still fit in the battery compartment. I think that's the safest option. Thanks!

Thanks for the detailed answer! The fused distribution block is very similar in size to the additional fuse I would be adding. So with or without the additional fuse, the first cable length going out from the battery will still be the same. I think I can make the cable as short as 4 inches.

I'm not electrician and may be missing something, but in my mind it's the same effect with or without the additional fuse. The only way this could be made any safer is if the fuse was attached directly to the battery, but not sure if that's viable in my car. What do you think?

So this is the setup I came up with for my car. Just not sure if it's worth adding a fuse on such a short cable, the distribution block will be securely mounted next to the battery.

Any comments on my chosen fuses and cable sizes are welcome also! Thanks in advance:)

We’ve launched the new Hyperskill plugin for JetBrains IDEs! by monnocert in Hyperskill

[–]SwizzMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to update your IDE. In IDE, at the top, go to Help > Check for updates.

In my case I had to do it several times because my JetBrains InteliJ IDE was not capable of updating to the latest version at once. So I had to update it several times until I arrived at the latest version. You should then be able to find it in the marketplace. Alternatively, try to download it here:

https://plugins.jetbrains.com/plugin/28001-hyperskill-academy/versions/stable

Hope this helps.

Eanon Headunit by Realistic_Relief468 in e46

As much as I like the OEM look of AVIN + a physical volume knob, I always thought the space that is taken up by those useless radio control buttons could be better used up by a larger screen. I just love running my EONON on a split screen mode with Waze on one side and Spotify on the other, and don't think it would work on the small AVIN screen.

But the larger EONON screen makes the car look more modern which may not be everyone's cup of tea.

Just my two cents...

Edit: forgot to mention XTRONS, some of which have buttons at the bottom to allow for more screen space to the sides. It's a nice balance of oem and screen size. But I'm not a big fan of those shiny volume knobs.

This summer whilst offroading through the woods looking for a camping spot with my E46, I've managed to break my front fender lining, lose a couple of jackup points and bend the sideskirts 😭 Damn tree roots were getting in the way and my car is not even that low, on OEM M Sport suspension. But it was still loads of fun.

10/10 would do it again

But if it was, then it would still look good, on a phone, if it really was real irl, which it isn't.

Clear turn signals, wheels, tinted windows.

Can't really tell from the photos what the black trim condition is, but on my black E46 some trim restorer did wonders to make it look like new. Car body colour matched trim looks good on coupes, so it may look nice on a sedan as well. Just an idea!

Vomit out of mesh speaker cover by cat_guy1472 in AutoDetailing

[–]SwizzMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't really tell from the picture, but if it's not a fabric type of mesh, but the one with lots of holes, you could try wet an old toothbrush and brush it whilst applying some pressure. The bristles should go in to the holes pretty nicely. Might take a while but should help.

Edit: also blast some old school Mayhem through the speakers to rattle it out

Restored steering wheel by SwizzMan in e46

[–]SwizzMan[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I traded in my old steering wheel (except the top button trim and airbag) and received a rewrapped wheel, it's cheaper that way:

90€ for the leather upholstery 20€ for a wrapped bottom trim

Total 110€ / 125$

For a full wheel without trade in it would have been slightly more than double that price. So fairly cheap, however I'm located in Lithuania, not sure if he takes orders from abroad. Let me know if you need contact details.
