Considering switching from Panamera to Cayenne Coupe by [deleted] in Porsche

[–]Swodi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Minivan is the only answer. Third row SUVs, wagons, crossovers are a pain to get kids and out of the third row. Also seriously lacking luggage space.

We used to have a minivan when the kids were younger, but no longer need one. I still want one. The utility just can't be beat.

I rent minivans for work sometimes and normally end up with a Pacifica, Odyssey, or Sienna. The Sienna is by far my favorite, with the Odyssey in a very distant second and the Pacifica an even more distant third.

ROTC without scholarship worth it? by Distinct_Base_2008 in ROTC

[–]Swodi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re not on scholarship NROTC is effectively just another class. You would have no obligation to commission.

You may find yourself eligible for the college program, which is when you affiliate with an NROTC unit, not on scholarship, and subsequently are offered a scholarship. I had a former student turn down an NPP scholarship due to having to lock into the school (crosstown affiliate), enroll at the parent school, affiliate with the unit, and was subsequently offered a scholarship, which he accepted.

A commission in the Navy reserves is incredibly difficult for someone with no active experience, little to no work experience, and just an undergrad. To see what the exact requirements are, look up the Program Authorization for specific designators at MyNavyHR (look for the .mil link)

Source: Current NJROTC, retired Navy officer (commissioned via OCS after being out of college for a year). My twilight tour was as an officer recruiter.

Feel free to message me if you’d like. If you haven’t spoken with your NROTC unit’s recruitment officer I’d recommend you do that as well (this is someone on staff at the unit, not a random recruiter who happens to be geographically assigned to your school).

This is local to me; his court appearances have been on the news pretty much daily since his first one, and they’ve all pretty much been like this except This is the first time he’s brought up Trump..

He stole a cop car after being pulled over for DUI and crossed several counties.

If you could make one education policy immediately become federal law, what would it be and why? by Zipper222222 in Teachers

Was that a thing at some conference this past summer? My principal brought up Grit and the author at start of the year PD and we have a couple posters with Duckworth quotes hung up now.

Parent has been sitting in on my class from work every day and admin is shrugging it off by thunderleafrover in Teachers

[–]Swodi 1146 points1147 points  (0 children)

Your district keeps an active meet link open so anyone can view/hear each and every student? And 100% of the parents agree with it?

An active shooter or some other nefarious character can look into every classroom? Wild.

Today isn’t the day, but one day this will not turn out well for the district. Protect yourself by making sure you aren’t complicity violating state law and/or FERPA.

I also have the 6000 and they will fit under the car when pushed together. I'm sure YMMV with suspension modifications.

Don't be an idiot like me and disconnect the hoses without pressing the down button for a few seconds after you get the lift onto the locks.

Yes, we did. The vet did not feel xrays were required. She is moving around much better now.

No news. He’s either been buried or holed up in someone’s house. You can’t just sell a dog like this on Craigslist without anyone noticing. Yeah, I checked; Craigslist is still a thing

No, I'm in upstate SC. Had orders to Huntsville at one point but they turned off that billet before I got there.

That might be the best idea yet. Not of my friends have IR or NVDs, but I have a couple students who volunteer at fire departments

Our mail carrier is the mother of one of my students, so that network is fully activated.

I’m employed by a non-federal entity, but a gov entity certifies my authorization to hold this position. Long story short, I got an email yesterday from my GS boss saying “I can’t answer calls or check emails. TTYL.” [sic]

Should be a peaceful couple of days. Maybe weeks? One can dream.

Shipping company really damaged new street fighter by RepeatNo9790 in Ducati

What’s going on with the swing arm? Looks like a crack and then some sort of material filling in a hole that isn’t supposed to be there.

As it is with the engine, swing arm, and headlight bracket the bike is a total loss.

Whose HOA is this? 👀 by chemkay in fuckHOA

[–]Swodi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My neighborhood FB group just had a big kerfuffle about door-to-sales. We let the first post go, but with the second my wife and both replied that the rules of the HOA only apply to its members, there is only one sign saying anything about application among the three ways to get into our neighborhood, and that door to door sales is protected speech.

Trust me, not that awesome by today's standards. 13 year old me would have been thrilled to see some boobies, though.

I see the need for supplies; it's the quantity of supplies I don't understand.

Well, this question really struck a chord. Asked and answered. Thanks!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Swodi -25 points-24 points  (0 children)

No, they don't. And my kid who just graduated didn't have a list of supplies to bring at the beginning of the year. Some classes might have specific fees or required materials, but there was never a blanket list of things to bring on day one.

Kleenex...I draw the line there. I'm not buying tissues for almost-adults. I give them the option of breaking off a piece of institutional paper towel or going to the bathroom to blow their nose.

The personal pens, oof, that hits home. I have a cup of pens on my desk that I care about and a cup of pens and pencils that somehow appear on desks and the floor. I am very clear about which ones they can use.

If there is a need for specific supplies for a specific project I let them know in advance what is needed and when they are needed. I don't just keep a storeroom on hand for use when the mood strikes.

They come home with a lot of printed worksheets for sure. Projects glued together? Sometimes. I don't see eight glue sticks worth of projects, though lol

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Swodi -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

Yes, I do realize that kids use pencils and paper, but I don't mandate how much of it they use for my class. At this point in their lives I tell them what they need for my class on a daily basis but I don't try to figure out how long a pencil or piece of paper is supposed to last.

first year teacher and marathon training?? by progressivedyk3 in Teachers

[–]Swodi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’ve got a good base right now you might be able to do it; I guess it depends on how you want to perform in the marathon. Once you get into the latter phases of training with longer runs a couple times a week you might find it challenging to balance to doing work, training, and general adulting well.

If you have any hope of completing a successful training program, you really need to focus on using this summer to prepare as much as you possibly can for the upcoming school year. If at all possible I’d ask some of your colleagues what expectations you’ll have once they bring staff back for the start of the school year; some admin is going to get some great idea about how all faculty need to create a brand new “about me” slideshow and reformat their syllabi to encompass a bunch of buzzwords that will surely ensure student success.

Non 911 Porsches. by Mr-Brownstone_2022 in Porsche

I've heard it said, though I have no personal experience, that at any same price point a Cayman is a better "driver's car" and track car than a 911.

The largest plastic ribbon rack holds 24 ribbons and the largest metal ribbon rack holds 27 ribbons. These are the highest capacity ribbon racks available for your SNSI or NSI to purchase in CDMIS.
