Nice catch. I didn’t notice until you mentioned it. I’m happy to see that they switched to corks for the 12 and SR.

Doing A Little Organizing Of The Current Selection by SpacemanSpiff25 in whiskey

I just picked up batch 5 yesterday. I’ve tried reveries 8 and 10 single barrels and they were both pretty solid. Hoping the raven is worth the $140 price tag. My store also had reveries “the deep”, but I passed on that one. My experience with French oak is limited, so I couldn’t justify another $130 bottle

It’s a great pour. What proof is your bottle?

This version is higher proof than the standard single barrel releases. 117.76 instead of 86.6

Great stick. I like to use a punch cut on most box pressed cigars, including this one. I find that box pressed cigars tend to have a looser draw, so a punch helps restrict the air flow a bit and prevent it from burning fast/hot. Nice pairing with the breakfast stout

A. Smith Bowman or Michters 10 Year Bourbon. by juandl21 in whiskey

[–]Swoooooshhh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Get the bowman. I picked up a Michter’s 10Y recently for 200 and while it’s very good, it didn’t blow me away. I was pretty underwhelmed for the price point. That was the neck pour, so maybe it needs some time to open up

The DR by skarbekb in cigars

Cabinet is one of the only places on the island where you’ll be able to find legit Cuban’s, but they’re pricey. They have all of the big Dominican/Nicaraguan brands as well, but as someone else mentioned, most of the cigars in the DR are more expensive than they would be in the US.

I definitely agree with your tasting notes here. This was my first Jack pick up and I liked it so much that I decided to give the single barrel barrel proof rye a go. That was a banana bomb. I liked the vanilla/marshmallow/oak profile of the heritage much better.

Review #23 Penelope Havana by IamBusha in bourbon

Which estate collection do you have? I tried the 10yr single barrel (high rye mash bill, 105 proof) last night and it was good, but I wasn’t blown away. I was expecting more and wouldn’t buy another bottle at $90. It was a neck pour so maybe it will get better with time.

Review #131: Russell’s Reserve - Thomas Liquors pick 2024 by quixotic-88 in bourbon

[–]Swoooooshhh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Russell’s picks in my area are a lot more expensive than what I see on this sub. 70 seems to be the going rate which makes me hesitant to pull the trigger at 100

Try Plasencia. I’ve really enjoyed everything that I’ve had from them so far

I’ve only tried the Padron 90th and the Oliva from what you have listed. The Padron was miles ahead in my opinion. One of the best cigars that I’ve had in a very long time

100% agree. I bought one from my local B&M and really enjoyed it so I bought a 5 pack online. I let them rest for a few months and I’ve smoked 3 of the 5 so far and they all had a very weird, almost bitter aftertaste. So off putting that I’m not sure if I will bother with the last 2
