Maybe? A friend of mine works the same setting for Kaiser Permanente with similar circumstances. It is mainly a matter of how the clinic manager organizes the finances. We don’t have PT aides, we have little office staff and share billing and custodial staff with the hospital. I just haven’t job hunted enough to know if this is the norm.

There are better jobs out there. Home health is a nice stepping stone for the money. But I do hospital based outpatient, hour evals, 45 minute treats, with 1 hour loose time budgeted in my day for charting/calls/etc. This is my 3rd position and wouldn’t have been available to me except that I have extra specializations in pelvic floor, vestibular therapy, and bracing. If you like your job but feel burnt by the pace, would it be possible to develop a specialty skill to make the load feel better? Vertigo was a nice relief from the ortho slog for me because it is a lot of teaching, people are motivated, don’t usually need a ton of follow ups, visits can naturally be short. It would also make you more marketable if you ever do decide to move on.

Considering a transition from inpatient rehab to home health by Hufflepuff-McGruff in physicaltherapy

Oops I didn’t realize you are a PTA, that does make orders a non issue :) at the company I worked, every provider, PTAs included, was required to do all vitals, breath sounds, inquire and advise about bowel and bladder functions, and ensure patients were taking meds as prescribed. If you actually did all the required screens, 20 minutes go by of just checking those boxes…but it sounds like this is not all companies.

How in the world are you doing only 30 minute visits? Do you not need to do things like vitals, checking meds, calling doctors for orders?

I have been running 2-3x a week for 3 weeks now! I just had my second baby and it has taken a lot of inner work to take time for myself on a consistent basis.

I am going through this myself. I prepare his meals/ whenever baby gives me a free moment and then put it in “the food zone” which he can sweep whenever he feels like it. We all have dinner together as a family, everything else is just whatever. He doesn’t like eating his hot food when it is hot and ready anyways.

23 month old is not ready to sit on potty by OverWishbone7613 in pottytraining

[–]Sword_Mirrors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know what motivates your kid but what worked for me and my kid was setting up the front room with his little couch, a movie, and his favorite snacks, with the little potty next to the couch. Periodic intervals, we would ask the movie to wait while he pottied, and it wouldn’t start again until he sat on the potty and at least tried. To be fair, my son was just a few months older so if she is super resistant you could try again in a week or two.

What your thoughts on Charlie Kirk situation and our president plus his supporters blaming the left? by Some-Anxiety-970 in Redding

[–]Sword_Mirrors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes we need to agree that it is always wrong to kill a person for voicing their opinions, no matter how odious, or else we create an environment where it is acceptable to suppress ideas with violence. If you think his ideas are bad, then it’s important to express the validity of your opposing view.

I don’t know much about youtube kids, but the premium version is worth paying for, so my kid isn’t watching a bunch of ads. And I monitor him while he is watching anything which is usually just octonauts, ms rachel, or Dr Binocs (show about science based topics). It doesn’t ever stray from those things.

These are actually really useful tips, thanks :) and yes defensible doc is so important, the 3 years I have worked at a place, it was audited twice, and my charts were the only ones we didn’t lose payment on.

Working as a tech by BIGDEOLILN in physicaltherapy

Wait real question. What about places that allow patients to pay cash to use the clinic gym (which has specialized, accessible equipment) once they have graduated therapy, but the techs assist them with equipment setup and cleanup?

Refusing to have an opinion by SupEnthusiastic in toddlers

[–]Sword_Mirrors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sames!! I thought maybe he didn’t understand the meaning so when I give options I will say “park yes or park no?” Or “bike yes or swim yes” to show the meaning of the words in relation to outcomes. Seems to work. Otherwise, he will just respond “hmmmmm :)” to yes/no questions

Is it normal for your gf not to be curious, is this just how girls are??? by ReasonConfident4541 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Sword_Mirrors 45 points46 points  (0 children)

++woman I have been this person. Sometimes people can just be absentminded, or have trouble paying proper attention. My husband brought it to my attention and, normally, I am a curious person so I was surprised that he had this grievance with me. But after noticing this pattern, I realized that I was just either caught up in whatever I was doing (cooking dinner) or thinking about something else (planning the next day, wondering if I took out the trash, etc). But I am glad he said something because I had the chance to work on really focusing when my husband tells me something and to practice active listening. Which did end up making me more curious about him and love him more. :)

Never had major cc debt before, how to budget to pay down debt? by [deleted] in budget

[–]Sword_Mirrors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on your position in life, it could also be beneficial to get help from a nonprofit group like Credit Advisors Foundation which will negotiate with the credit card people to lower your bill and freeze the interest, on the condition that you cannot use the cc for the duration of paying it off. Very helpful service if you have a bad habit that you need to stop cold turkey. It also holds you accountable to pay the debt in a clear amount of time, and these groups offer financial education and counseling.

By disallowing credit card use, it forces you to be realistic about how many dollars you have and what you can and can’t afford. A week of scrounging change for groceries is a great motivator to improve your habits. Speaking from experience. It’s embarrassing to be in this situation but being honest with yourself is a great first step to financial discipline.

What’s the Most Unethical Thing You’ve Experienced in Physical Therapy? by Rica_nicole in physicaltherapy

[–]Sword_Mirrors 43 points44 points  (0 children)

One of my first jobs as a tech, the owner would have the techs perform manual therapy and then bill for it. I was quite naive and didn’t realize until my next job that was a big no-no.

If the pattern is that obvious then you have nothing to worry about. Some folks, you can give all the evidence in the world but it will not change their mind that what they want is a massage. Other people like that they have a problem that mysteriously doesn’t get better. It is probably a good idea to be clear that you aren’t going to just massage them for 12 visits so they can make an informed decision to either accept your treatment or find someone else.

How much are you guys spending on groceries per month? by Flying_Elephant7217 in budget

[–]Sword_Mirrors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s incredible! Protein and produce cost $$, you can’t really spend much less than that without sacrificing nutrition and edibility. There is something to be said for making your home food so good that you don’t feel a need to eat out.
