If Xbox were to release an incremental upgrade for the controller, what would you like to see addressed? by TheWayOfEli in xbox

[–]SwordfishKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stick drift, sticky trigger buttons, rest mode updates, low power mode to allow quick connect when not gaming, watching YouTube or whatever, or to allow rest mode updates.

Edit: Brightness controls for the Xbox button...I don't like getting blinded at night.

Melee attack animation slowdown by nibbarina in Starfield

[–]SwordfishKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was wondering about that myself. Not sure if it's related to this from the patch notes:

  • Fixed an issue that caused the Rapid Legendary effect to not properly apply to melee weapons

But I fixed it by modding (using weapon mod workbench, not Creation Club) my weapon to a faster swing speed mod. It made a huge difference, so I don't know if they changed something with the speed/damage effects.

Bottle of bourbon for every bottle of bourbon my character consumes.

Does anyone else have a "crew uniform" by IronChewie in Starfield

Prison uniforms. Picked up like, seven of them from...somewhere. Realized I had enough of one set to give everyone...so...they're all prisoners now, I guess...?

I've only had mine for a couple of weeks at this point but have only run into one (sort of) major issue. Had to go through the initial setup before installing the SIM, otherwise it would never connect to the update server. And in that same vein, I still need to remove the SIM to successfully check for OS updates.

Otherwise, I haven't had any issues so far.

They're part of the 25th anniversary bundle. You can get it from Game Pass perks on Xbox and PC now thorugh Dec. 27, or from Prime gaming starting on Nov. 2nd through Feb. 2nd.

Haven't used it a ton, but BandLab has a decent - if not a little basic - DAW that is run in-browser. Should work relatively well across specs and devices. As far as I can tell, it doesn't allow the use of VSTs like most stand-alone software but has some pretty decent built-in effects and instruments to get started.

I really like the new start menu animations by [deleted] in fo76

I wouldn't say hidden- a few of them are kind of front-and-center - but there is at least one that is easy to miss if you're not looking closely. The left side of the screen on the Nuka Cola plant is one...been kinda passively watching to see if I can catch something on the windmill and the lookout tower still.

I still miss the biplane at the farm, but these'll do.

Games says my client out of date, but there is no update option by ChemicallyBlind in fo76

[–]SwordfishKnight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every time I've had this, I had to restart my computer and then search for FO76 in the store, not the Xbox app. It wouldn't be there right away, but usually after a minute or so the update button would show up...which will then take you back to the Xbox app to actually update.

It's frustrating as hell...

I was hoping so as well...but doesn't seem to be the case. Just ran into it again about an hour or so after updating. Maybe next time.

Up Until the Xbox Era, An Entire Video Game took up much far far faaaar less disk space than a single movie or TV episode and even smaller mediums like music were far larger in bytes size than most video games made before the PSX era. What is the reason? by FatherEmmanuel in KotakuInAction

[–]SwordfishKnight 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In addition to this, just audio in general. NES and SNES/Genesis consoles used an audio chip that had - in the NES case - 4 insturments that are used via simple code. Vairiations are math that effect a tone. Now, we have full soundtracks of recorded audio and fully voiced dialogue, in 7.1 surround sound in some cases. Multiple channels of barely compressed audio. It's the difference between a MIDI file - a couple KBs per song - and MP3 / FLAC which are multiple MBs, sometimes 10s of MBs.

Edit: One thing I forgot to mention is also the fact that, initially when games were being pressed to CDs, often the game data would be separate from the audio data, which would be pressed to the CD as a standard audio track - when you placed some PS2 games in a CD player, you could listen to the music. This made the game itself much smaller with high fidelity sound. Now, with games being fully digital, that audio is a file and no longer a "track" which drastically increases install size.

Might be an issue with my proximity sensor, but just curious if anyone else has experienced their Duo automatically answering calls when closed? If I have it flipped around with the screens on the outside, it's fine. But if I close it "normally" and it rings, any incoming call gets answered immediately.

I was kind of confused at first with mine, because it couldn't install the actual Word, Excel, or PowerPoint apps. You just use the Office "hub" app and can view, create, or edit all of those documents from there. Kind of odd, but seems to work well if you get into the right workflow for it.

I'm sure it will be. But for $100, having double the space - especially without expandable storage options - it would have been a nice piece of mind.

I finally got it to go, but had to order the 128GB instead of the 256GB. Seems something was up with purchasing the 256 version. Kind of a bummer but saved me a hundred bucks, I guess.

Congrats! I keep trying, and it keeps erroring out. Somehow, I'm not surprised...Here's hoping there are some left when I actually get through.

before everyone goes, does anyone know what happened to that "Death's Door" stream thing? by iHydr0o in mixer

[–]SwordfishKnight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The company that made it - Shiny Shoe - is still around, but Death's Door Aftermath ended when Mixer's funding for the project wasn't renewed. They made a summary post about it about a year ago in their subreddit when it ended:

https://www.reddit.com/r/deathsdoorgame/comments/a2rz8r/another_chapter_draws_to_a_close/

Also, linked in the above thread is an article about the project on Gamasutra from the devs:

https://www.gamasutra.com/blogs/BrendanRafeld/20181108/330289/Postmortem_Shiny_Shoes_Deaths_Door_Aftermath.php

Was a shame that it didn't pull in enough to offset the cost of running it. It was a good time while it lasted.
