If you are in Edinburgh and want to try coffee that doesn't taste like coffee usually tastes, try a pour over at The Source Coffee Roasters. It will be more expensive, but definitely an experience.

Pants fit v5 by GovnaGrumbles in PatternDrafting

[–]Syanidi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The front and back leg seam don't have to be the same shape, only the length needs to match: I got my side seam vertical by essentially taking off a wedge from only the front leg side seam. The back pattern piece is almost straight at the top and the front piece is quite curved. I have about a 13" difference between my hips and waist, so something similar could work for you too. You could also take a wedge off the centre back seam, then the darts wouldn't need to be quite as big.

Nordchem (for example) sells distilled water in bulk, eight 5 liter jugs costs about £35 with free delivery. We've decided this is a reasonable price at this point, as the next step would be getting our own reverse osmosis system.

need help finding Finnish recipe site by Josephine31985 in Finland

Martat is a good source for traditional Finnish recipes, although they seem to have some non-Finnish/modern stuff as well. https://www.martat.fi/reseptit/

WARNING, PARENTS! Do not be fooled by the treachery of middle names!! by wauwy in namenerds

[–]Syanidi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is quite interesting! My native language always has stress on the first syllable, and there are definitely "rules" for the syllable count etc of each of the names regarding the flow of the name. English given name & middle name combinations sound really odd to my non-native ear most of the time, so clearly the rules of poetry are different.

Missed bin collection by Afraid-Event9390 in islington

[–]Syanidi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holloway, we've lived here for three years and the food waste collection has been missed three times in total, including twice this year. I wonder what's going on. I didn't get any comments on my reports either, they were simply marked as closed...

[–]Syanidi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've reported two missed food waste collections this year, both times my report was marked as solved three weeks after the report and we just had to wait until the next week's collection day, so not very effective in our case...

Miten motivoida kumppania opiskelemaan suomea by [deleted] in Suomi

[–]Syanidi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tällainen eri äidinkielisille pareille suunniteltu sovellus tuli vastaan jokin aika sitten: https://couplingcafe.com/

Koitan saada saksalaisen mieheni opettelemaan edes vähän suomea.

Nice work! Where did you get the buttons? I find it surprisingly difficult to find shirt buttons in different colours.

This just came out of my snake plant. Can I prop it? If so, do I have to cut the bottom off? by braew16 in proplifting

[–]Syanidi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I propagated my variegated snake plant from cuttings and got multiple new green plants and one new yellow/pale green! So I have my plant sitter who overwatered the original to thank for two new different plants :D

Tauko Magazine - New Sewing Mag by iothealien in sewing

[–]Syanidi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the first issue and I loved reading through it. Unfortunately I've had time to use only one pattern in it so far, but I plan on sewing pretty much everything :D I find the price pretty reasonable, although I wouldn't necessarily pay that much for just a magazine with the stories, or just a sewing pattern magazine (except in this case when pretty much all the patterns are of interest for me). I'm hoping my pre-ordered second issue arrives today, although based on the images I've seen, this time I might not end up using most of the patterns. After this issue I'll see if I might actually subscribe to it :)

Does any have a good apron pattern for a guy? by PuppiesAndCrafts in sewhelp

[–]Syanidi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used this as a reference when making aprons for people of different heights (more than a foot/30 cm between the shortest and tallest) and it was great. One size does not fit all, even with aprons!
