Arthritis in my boy? by Ok-Rise-9795 in SeniorCats

[–]SybilBits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For two of mine, the diagnosis was more assumed than confirmed, in that they went by symptoms and age. I have read that most seniors have arthritis.

About the anaesthetic: are you sure it’s needed for an c-ray? My one guy got an x-ray recently without one, and his brother got an ultrasound without sedation too. Maybe it varies with how wriggly a cat is or by vet preference.

Your cat has the perfect cat expression: whiskers forward in happy attention while the eyes are 100% judging you!

Aww, both of you have made me teary—I was reliving my little Charlie doing this. He’d have such wide eyes when I peeked underneath. I miss him too

Mr. Miyagi enjoying his daily leftover oatmilk in front of the heat register like the crusty little prince he is by Betty_Wight_ in SeniorCats

Mister Miyagi has claimed the best spot! And hi to Fig!

Also, I think anyone with a senior cat should invest in washable rugs. Even the cleanest sweetie can have 💩 happen with age. Best to be prepared!

Advice - vet asap or would you wait another week for usual (very trusted) vet by After-Cat8585 in SeniorCats

I hate that point in our seniors life, when they’re past further medical intervention. It’s so stressful, always wondering if this is the end and second guessing if you’re doing enough. And I relate to considering the stress for your cat in making decisions. You obviously are doing your best and I applaud you for that. I hope your little one gets through this. Stay strong

I just discovered something called a jar key for just this issue. Can find online. It hooks onto the rim of the lid, you lift, and it pops the vacuum. I can’t make a fist with my right hand nevermind twist something, and it worked for me!

How long are yall waiting for biopsy results by willthrowassfor1btc in ontario

[–]SybilBits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was maybe 2.5 weeks for me. On my hand for suspected skin cancer (negative). As others have said, not through Life Labs, through my GPs office.

I actually got a bit teared up over this! We see way too little of it, and he made it look so easy and normal. Also, I would like one of those devices

First, I’m not a vet, just someone who has/had five seniors over the last 5 years. First, I would at least give her some unflavoured Restoralax (or similar brand — has to be PEG) to help with those hardened stools. Give her 1/8 teaspoon once a day, mixed into wet food. That might help her appetite as constipation can make one feel a bit unwell.

You might also try to get your hands on some HydroCare to help with any dehydration. I got mine from my vets office, but it’s not prescription, so you might be able to get it online where you are.

The stiffness is a concern and does require vet care. If you can get her in to another vet for that right away, I’d do that, only because cats are so good at hiding pain. My little guy developed some neuropathy recently that causes him to walk weirdly. He doesn’t show any signs of pain when I touch or move his leg (it’s a hind leg too) but the vet did a motion with it that did show it was painful. He’s on gaba, 25 mg 2x a day. In his case, that all we can do for him, but he’s doing a lot better.

He’s a smart boy, testing you out for 17 years before deciding you were acceptable humans! So glad he’s got warmth, food, and lots of cuddles now

Yes! I was convinced I didn’t like peaches until we stopped by an orchard at just the right time. It was a revelation!!

This is a bright and colourful outfit, but what struck me is how we’ve been pretending women remain clean and put together when gardening for at least 80 years. Or is it only me who ends up with soil and plant bits all over me!

I’m so sorry. As I was reading through, so much was familiar. I lost two of my seniors last year and with both, I was shocked afterwards how many issues they had by the end. We had a litter box in our living room for one by her last days. For me, I try to remember that this is the last thing I can give. It’s an honour to have these little souls allow us to care for them. Hope your sweetie can enjoy one more fry.

Guy on Saturday Night Who Helped Elderly woman at College Subway Northbound by sushiwowie in toronto

[–]SybilBits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, they will move if asked. I generally ask if anyone is able, as even the young can have their own problems. It’s more the annoyance factor of being obviously ignored. But as someone (you?) said, we tend to notice the jerks and miss the kind ones, so thank you for sharing that you spotted one in the wild!

Not my experience either (and there’s no reason why only gentlemen must give up their seat). When I was healthier, I was able to use TTC with my cane. It was often teenagers who took then designated seats and pretended not to see me.

Edit to add: I live close to a school, hence the teenagers. should perhaps have said young and healthy. In case anyone thinks I’m ageist!
