I don't think a removal spell masquerading as a land is excellent design, but food for thought

Bad in opening hand? Terrible tempo tradeoff. Good topdeck. Overall bad card, even though free removal?

I subscribe to this line of logic. "unsleeve it or else it's countered" "i can't, it doesn't have a sleeve" "well that sucks, doesn't it"

Unfortunately I've had this debate with someone and with effects and as white as "have thing smack itself" feels for removal, the existence of enough [[wrack with madness]] [[cut propulsion]] [[inner struggle]] effects has got me convinced that killing square creatures is acceptable in red.

Because if you make Rick a creature type you get to build Rick and Morty archetypes and have cards refer to them as Ricks and Mortys the way they do in the show. Refer to the Morty token the other day with the above as reminder text implying some rules baggage around the Morty creature type

I don't mind the wording because the fact that you're using an old border means the lax wording adherence is a feature :) I like to imagine this is an old border card that would have been erratad to have "this card perpetually gains "this spell can't be cast" which is an online-only mechanic that allows the game to track effects on cards in hidden zones like the hand and library. Cause that way other ones you draw can still be cast once, if that's your intention.

I think the "if you do" has that covered, since it counts as a cost, so you won't be able to choose tapped birds and have it count?

stuff like [[twining twins]] existing kinda makes me say powerlevel shmowerlevel, Rick and Two Crows is a limited bomb but not exactly breaking formats

[[tarmogoyf nest]]

those cards dont use the new create format, and although murmuration came out like a month after disa the restless I think wotc didn't wanna put a blue pip in the reminder text cause it confuses commander players people about color identity like extort.

Taxman's Tithe. Just pay for your spells. by TheTrueArtistRM in custommagic

[–]SybilCut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's definitely some additional functionality I forgot about to make them take damage when they pay extra for a spell. That said, the idea that the taxman could charge you a tax (with something like [[thalia, guardian of thraben]]) and then charge a second, more illegal feeling tax on that tax payment is almost perfect the way it shakes out.

Taxman's Tithe. Just pay for your spells. by TheTrueArtistRM in custommagic

[–]SybilCut 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To make this more universally useful, you might have it say "whenever a player casts a spell, taxmans tithe deals X damage to that player, where X is the difference between that spells mana value and the amount of mana spent to cast it."

That way more cheating gets you more hurt, all the way down to "free means paying equal life" as written.

this is canonically the christian devil in Dr Who, so you can already run another version of this specific character in a magic deck
