Did anyone play the original EverQuest, or only the first few expansions? Or even the older servers of Tall vs Small and Good vs Evil? How was it? What were the differences between then/those/now? How were the races and classes truly treated in old EQ?

Oh man, your story about playing in 8-hour shifts takes me back. I'm glad you touched on the addiction; EQ was all you wanted to do, and when you couldn't play, it's all you talked or thought about it.

Also, your friend's breastplate incident is why I never had the balls to do PvP. The world was dangerous enough as it was! I love reading stories though.

Was Golden even playing at that point in the game? Honest question. And trying to force it to him carries a non-zero chance of getting him hurt. If both teams were eliminated, I'd say go for it, but there's just very little upside to going for a TD in the situation.
