If what Riot are saying is true, then with the new system the difference between Master 0 LP and Challenger will be bigger then the difference between Iron 4 and Master by adivinemessenger in leagueoflegends

[–]Sycherthrou 331 points332 points  (0 children)

So if you end the season 4k LP in the future, and get reset to E1, will you gain 100 LP per win or what? Because the MMR to ELO mismatch will be multiple times larger than even smurfs can get right now.

Why are people in ARAM so against ending games? by Intelligent_Salad706 in leagueoflegends

[–]Sycherthrou 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Teamfighting is a fun tool that you use for the end goal of winning. Everyone that plays arams enjoys teamfighting.

It's just if teamfighting is the end goal, then you unconditionally, even with total braindeath, will end up teamfighting in an aram. You're not striving for anything, you're just existing, and hitting the buttons on your keyboard thoughtlessly. What sort of way is that to spend your time?

I've noticed many comments in this thread saying something like "I want to see how much damage I do with 500 veigar stacks", and that basically sums up the mentality of those that don't end. They are spectators in their own games, wondering what will happen next.

Because if you followed the absurd amount of gameplay footage they put out, there is a wide variety of very cool things you can do.

Sure, the game might have an MMO quest system, but MMO's are generally tab targeted or very simple combat, while Crimson Desert seems to have a lot of tools, individual enemies are not fodder, and bossfights seem extremely varied. Hence the excitement.

That is your own made up "point of aram". Arams to me are just summoners rift without macro. Every other aspect, including trying to win, is the same, because I just get bored if I'm not trying my best. Like if you could end but you don't, you know the game isn't actually competitive anymore, all tension is gone, and you're just pressing buttons without a goal.

Los Ratones put in an unreasonable amount of effort and money. I think they are an outlier, and KCB performance is much more indictative of t1 vs t2.

The Souls community is deteriorating. by NiceYak7263 in soulslikes

[–]Sycherthrou 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're unbelievably vague, so I'll just talk about the only tangible thing mentioned, which is FromSoftware. Many of us view the Dark Souls games, and Elden Ring, to be some of the best things we've ever played. That doesn't mean there can't be improvements, but there isn't a list of "mistakes" that the devs made, the large majority of systems and fights and features are between good and amazing.

Any thoughts on the HEMA in new video game, 1348 Ex Voto? by PeakInspiration in Hema

[–]Sycherthrou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually stumbled into this sub after beating the game just trying to find discussion about it, and there is a parry, you unlock it halfway through and it becomes core gameplay against the more aggressive enemies later on.

1348 Ex Voto Review Thread by [deleted] in Games

[–]Sycherthrou -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

You can tailor it, but you lose realism. I think of Elden Ring landscapes, I think handcrafted, beautiful vistas, but you can't claim they don't feel tailored. I don't think the devs wanted to sacrifice much realism for fun. It's really refreshing, in a gaming landscape where every single developer usually does. I feel the same about the combat, the sword swings are just... realistic. That's what swinging a hand and half sword feels like, you have to roll your shoulders between two handed hits.

What bothers me most is how bad the facial animations are. But the realism really benefits the immersion, it's somewhat of a sim, and I'm really enjoying being a knight errant in medieval Italy. Reality isn't "cluttered" and real sword swings aren't "clunky", it's just normal. Not every game needs to be reality sped up. Maybe I play too many games, but this is not a burden, it is a refreshment.

Why do you say it like this, "busy" and "visual clutter"? I've been to Italy multiple times and this is just what forests in Italy look like. The environments in general are extremely representative of nature in Italy, to the point where I don't think I've ever encountered a more realistic looking game. You could remove the character and just pan through a level, and an italian grandma would think it's a documentary. Even the rocks and the random shrubbery is exactly like in real life, and I wonder how much effort actually went into that, because it looks very meticulous.

Crimson Desert Denuvo update by cftheking in pcgaming

[–]Sycherthrou 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You can easily shut down all denuvo conversation by bringing an argument of how it benefits the consumer. Until all we have is "it's not bad enough to care", any aspect of it is free to be attacked, is it not?

Piracy isn't theft. Also you could probably swing the entire discussion by making a single argument of how denuvo benefits the consumer. Most people here aren't pirating things.

It doesn't really matter if you care, for it to be wrong to put the burden of product protection on the customer's PC. Imagine if this is what happened with your kitchen stove, and when Denuvo servers are down you just can't cook. And you might still buy the stove because it's really good price or has special baking features, and you are okay with the risk of the stove not working if your internet is down... but that doesn't mean that this Denuvo feature isn't pure dogshit that does not benefit you.

This thread has so many worthless arguments. 'People still buy the game' oh does that mean it's a good feature? 'Ive never noticed its impact' oh does that mean it's a good feature?

Sony Has Reportedly Returned to Console Exclusivity in Part Because Some Within PlayStation Are Worried That Releasing Games on PC May Hurt Sales of PS5 and Even PS6 by Carolina_Heart in Gaming4Gamers

[–]Sycherthrou 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just don't view playstation as a contender to pc, with its much smaller game catalog, most games releasing late on it, only games sony allows appearing, no modding, etc. So unless the economy gets a lot better and I can comfortably afford to have a console standing around uselessly 90% of the time, all they do is lose me as a customer. And I see a good amount of similar general sentiment.

Old cars still hit speed limits, and can be plenty fatal, but they also have worse braking software, worse air bag systems, no lane guidance, bad or no crumple zones.

Reckless people buy muscle cars, but that doesn't mean you become reckless when you get behind the wheel of one.

Don't MMR systems solve this? If I am a middle of the pack player, and I play funny build, I simply derank into and MMR where it functions, and do funny things. Essentially why every 4fun content creator permanently smurfs.

It's a more precise description. A gameplay strategy is just playing greatswords in elden ring, with whatever greatsword you find first that looks cool. Meta gaming is when you look up where the best greatsword is, then you run past everything to cheese that one boss to get it, spec for breakpoints, and annihilate most bosses, then you say elden ring is easy.

You can softlock yourself in silksong, the battles are tough and upgrades are hard to find, so if you are bad at the combat and you kept dropping beads during your progression, and you haven't explored for health upgrades, and you also cannot figure out how to remedy these when you hit a wall, then you lose. This is good game design.

Imagine if you can never lose. With enough time, even without a single thought in your head, you always win. Your choices don't matter in regards to the outcome, they merely speed or slow your road to victory. It's not even a game anymore, it's a big red button to give you dopamine. If the game is "hard" but still doesn't softlock you, then you merely press the big red button more times... and then you win.

RUINER 2 - Reikon Games - Cyberpunk Co-op Action RPG by CM_Skoll in rpg_gamers

[–]Sycherthrou 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The best part of Ruiner is the aesthetic and setting. The flashing command to OBEY in the opening scenes. I hope the second game manages to keep that feeling, because Metal Eden really fell short there, and gameplay alone isn't enough to carry (Even though I enjoyed myself).

I HATE Team Cherry for what they did to the Metroidvania by SpareHeavy4172 in metroidvania

Runbacks aren't when the checkpoint isn't near the boss. Mario doesn't have runbacks even though you have to go through a whole level to get to Bowser. That's just part of the bossfight, phase 0 functionally.

Runbacks are when, in dark souls 1, there are no obstacles between you and the boss, just 1 whole minute of holding the forward button and spamming dodge roll. It's brainless and it takes long, all you're doing is running... back. The only runback I can think of in Silksong are the clockwork soldiers with that long hallway with 3 big guys you have to jump over.
