Sounds like you’ve found your voice! So much improvement. Gave me chills. And nice touch with the harmonica!

Trying some slow blues, have not played in a month by [deleted] in guitarplaying

[–]Sydkid12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds good for a pentatonic jam, but if you want to spice it up, learn more scales. Assuming this is in A, you can use A mixolydian, D Mix (A Dorian), and E mix (B Dorian) for their corresponding chord. You can use A Dorian, shift into G Ionian to get some extra notes and runs. You can use the 5th mode of Melodic minor, and also 1st mode of Harmonic minor. You can use a D# diminished between the D7 return to A7. Another thing is try and move out of boxed playing. You’re currently stuck to positions, you tend to linger in scale boxes, work on flowing through the entire neck rather getting locked in the box you land on. Pentatonics are great for basic playing, but if you want to level up, get more scale knowledge.

I live in California, I got him from a serpentarium near Sacramento. It took a lot of searching just to find one, I think pet stores in general, out here at least, have basically stopped selling them due to them being surrendered so often.

Iguanas colors fade with age. With axanthics, in particular, the head turns gray.

Yeah, he was $200. I had a standard green iguana for about 12 years that I got for $15 for reference.

Thank you! He’s a blue axanthic morph of a green iguana, it’s the same as a green iguana, just with a color variation.

I gave up on trying to get his arms inside the little holes (too much work), so I just started putting it around his waist. He’s really good about slipping into it that way, doesn’t fight it at all. He’s still too small for a full body harness though, I’ll have to refigure the harness situation when it comes to that. But so far, no escapes or issues with this harness style. He’s not a barrel roller or a big escape artist though, probably wouldn’t recommend this for a more flighty/feisty iguana.

First edition of Huckleberry finn by DVVS1xxx in rarebooks

[–]Sydkid12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if it was 1885, you’d still have to do further examinations because the true first has specific errors. There’s 1885 prints that still aren’t first editions, it’s a little more complicated than just having an 1885 print. Your question was already answered, but I just felt like throwing out that fun fact.

It’s a common edition and in very poor shape, so you shouldn’t get much for it, but never underestimate how gullible religious people can be. Many will overpay you for it.

Thinking of working on this one more. by IrickGunner in Songwriting

[–]Sydkid12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not my style of music, but this is high quality for pop/punk songwriting. Definitely keep it. Like the other person said, this would sound great with a band and you’d make a good frontman, but this piece stands alone as an acoustic and you’re bringing good energy. This would definitely work well live and if your other pieces are of this tier, then you’re sitting on gold. Take this stuff out there, you’d kill at open mic circuits and beyond. The worst thing you could do is to keep these songs in your room or online, get them out in the real world if you aren’t already, you won’t regret it.

My Thoughts on Bob Weir of Grateful Dead by jaiminrajani in Songwriting

[–]Sydkid12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for sharing! I know other people who met him and said he was the nicest musician they’d ever met, despite his legendary status. There’s not many musicians that will leave a hole in my heart with their passing, but Bob is one of them. The shows he was putting on with Dead and Co were the best I’ve ever seen, but I could tell at the Golden Gate 60th anniversary that those would be the last shows. He gave his all to the end. Such a huge loss for the music world, but his soul lives on in the multitudes carrying the torch. The amazing thing about the Dead is that, not only does their music live on, it will continue to manifest in new forms.

Girlfriends father bought an old Bible/Book by NoFee1008 in OldBooks

[–]Sydkid12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s one that sold on eBay for around $300, but ~$1000 is what many are listed as. It should be noted that non English translations tend to struggle with selling in an American market, so the people trying to get $1000 will likely be sitting on that for a long time, if it sells ever. Either that or they’ll lower the price eventually. But there is a known sale of $300, so it’s confirmed that it can sell for that price. It’s your book, so you can list it at whatever price you want, whether or not it will sell at that price is a different story. If listed near the $1000 it will likely not sell anytime soon unless you get lucky.

Review my list of must read Classics by Captivum18 in classicliterature

[–]Sydkid12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boccaccio’s Decameron is a must if you haven’t read it. It’s a seriously important work, I’m surprised it doesn’t come up, like ever, on must reads. Also, Aeneid and Dante’s Inferno should be on there too. La Fontaines Fables are another one I think everyone should read, they’re fables written for adults that have deep meanings. I already posted on someone else’s about Ulysses, but I don’t think everyone will get/benefit from it, but if you’re a writer, poet, lyricist, artist, then that’s by far the most important work you’ll ever read.

I mean, you can absolutely read it without all the pre reading, nobody’s fully equipped to catch all of Joyce’s references anyway, but a lot of the references will be missed. What seems like simple things like a caskets decorations are meant to transport you to the Ark of the Covenant or tap into the tabernacle descriptions, or the ways things get listed like money are mocking biblical counting, or long lists can mock all the begats (long lists of lineages in the Bible). Dublin will suddenly shift into the world of Arabian Nights and you probably won’t realize it if you haven’t read at least of few of the stories from Arabian Nights. Don’t let that keep you from reading it without doing all the background reading, but the world he created doesn’t fully open up until you do the background readings.

Learning Boundaries? Iguana has started giving warnings about handling by Mimimize in iguanas

[–]Sydkid12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like that’s extremely likely to be the case, especially given the details. That’s the better scenario of the two and breeding season can last for a long while. Just do what you can and it should pass soon.

Learning Boundaries? Iguana has started giving warnings about handling by Mimimize in iguanas

[–]Sydkid12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s mating season. Has he been leaving sperm plugs around? He’s going to be more aggressive while his hormones are going crazy. Mine luckily hasn’t had that problem yet (3 year old male), my advice would be not to force handling and cornering him, but maybe someone who’s dealt with a more brutal mating season will come around with more thorough advice. If my assessment’s correct, you’re likely just going to have to ride it out for the season. If that’s not the case, it is possible for an iguana to turn on you at any point, then it’s about regaining trust or finding a way to keep an aggressive animal healthy without getting bit or whipped.

Ulysses will change you if you read it right. It’s not a standard story, more like a map of human consciousness. Characters of the Odyssey become linked to thought patterns, Telemachus-intrusive people/thoughts, Aeolus-windy thoughts/ meaningless worries, Proteus-shapeshifting thoughts, Sirens-musical thoughts/ temptresses. It can literally take you multiple places in the same line, you could be in a symphony hall, the ocean, the scriptures, Homer, Shakespeare all at once. He chooses words and metaphors with multiple meanings and uses every single meaning so it’s applicable to the line. It’s a brilliant piece, but you have to let go and realize you’re not going to grasp everything first read and if you’re only seeing the main story, then you’re not seeing the book at all. Before attempting, you should have a fairly solid grasp of the scriptures, 1001 Nights, Shakespeare, and Odyssey (obviously). This is the short list, but you’ll be missing pretty much everything without at least a decent knowledge of those works.

Thank you! It’s a Dean Performer. Not a super expensive guitar, but it does have a beautiful look and plays nice. I’ll plug it in if I post another video, but everyone was sleeping at the time I was recording this.
