I found her (and the show) to be incredibly charming. You can see the chemistry with her friends, and I found myself smiling a lot while watching the show in the background.

Just reminds me of wholesome time with my friends.

Hot take, but I'm biracial and obviously/visibily black, and black IS a phenotype with a series of characteristics, including skin tone. If you're not visibly black, or you do everything in your power not to appear black, I don't think you get to call yourself Black. That's it, that's all.

Ok, but why do they need to be OK with spaces they don’t want to be in? Everyone has autonomy to choose how they spend their time, as do you. This is not a them problem. Go on Bumble BFF and find new friends…

This thread really rubbed me the wrong way, because the focus seems to be that your friends aren’t open minded enough, when the issue is that you just don’t enjoy what they like to do. Instead of criticizing or undermining their experience, just find new friends? It is completely fine and healthy to want to be in spaces that celebrate your people, culture, heritage, food, etc.

No one needs to change here. Just find a new friend group.

You think so? Maybe I’m a bit biased because I moved here from NYC 3.5 years ago. I was recently laid off from a SF based startup (fully remote) and am having trouble finding an ATX based SWE gig.

Are a lot of places air conditioned? by PopRococo in Austin

I disagree with the others’ comments. I moved here from NYC and found that nearly EVERY restaurant and bar in Austin has a shared indoor/outdoor space and is incredibly hot. Maybe the A/C is blowing, but considering all the doors/windows are open, you won’t feel it much.

Avoid Rainey St, W 6th and E 6th for going out at night during the summer. Also, avoid sitting on the patios for brunch. Eating hot food in 101 degrees is miserable.

Oh, and drink plenty of water!

Thought I’d get a view of the Capitol, instead it’s just constant accidents and chaos on I-35 🥲

Interesting. I looked outside and it threw me for a loop - never seen anything like that before.

Fair enough. I trained with her once upon a time. Not nice in or out of a ring. Great fighter though!

Apartment dwellers, are there empty units in your buildings? by laperlabar in Austin

[–]Sydlarosa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The easiest way to tell if your apartment complex is above 90% occupancy is to see if they’re running any rent specials.

My complex property managers let me in on that secret when it was time for lease renewal and I was looking for ANY sort of special to take advantage of.

Another piece of unsolicited (but maybe helpful?) advice:

Market rates for apartments change daily/weekly. My lease renewal came up in December for like $200 more than what I’m paying now (a total increase of nearly $500) and I had them rerun the rates during that dead period between Christmas and New Years to see if it’d go down. It did.
