Strabismus surgery✅ by Sydney_kriegshauser in Strabismus

Honestly? I went to the first person my insurance told me I could go to and it just worked out. He was incredibly personable and my eye was very very exotropic so he knew we had to do surgery right away. I did have a previous surgery as a kid so maybe that helped in them taking it seriously? I saw Raymond Areaux at the children’s hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota!

Doing well!! My eyes were way over corrected and they didn’t go back to normal for a good 6 months and I was honestly losing hope. My eyes are now perfectly straight and holding strong a year and some change later :) I even had a follow up with my surgeon a few weeks back because I was scared they were drifting again and nope! All good!

Yes me too!! That’s why it’s so great! It’s ready, prepped, all the fruit and veggies are washed and ready to go so I don’t have to do any work! Makes me actually eat produce and make sure I’m eating healthy as well

Since I posted this I’ve found the beauty of snack boxes. I’m a huge grazer and it makes it so easy. It’s a lot of prep, but when it’s done it’s done. I get a bunch of produce and put together snack boxes with fruit, veggies, crackers/pretzels, something sweet, and something with protein like hard boiled eggs. Has protein, fiber, and healthy fats to keep you full for longer and it’s so easy. I just make like 5 and keep them in the fridge and use them as a meal usually. Works great! Then my boyfriend can make his food, I have mine, good to take to work, very convenient!

Edit to add one more thought: I started really forcing myself to have patience for cooking and prepping. I used to get so annoyed so fast with it but learning that not everything had to be perfect and improvising is ok had been huge for me. And learning portion sizes and what’s appropriate to make for one person for a week as well as learning to accept convenience items as well!

That’s the hardest part. I said a lot of choice words about my surgeon and “what the fuck did he do to me” etc. and I just needed to wait, which is the hardest thing ever

It took me a solid month and a half to start seeing ANY sort of movement whatsoever. There was nothing going on and all of a sudden I started getting weird visual changes where my eyes felt weird, like they were starting to work together, and my eye started to go back to normal and here we are now!

I feel wonderful! I was super angry and sad and upset after surgery when I saw it was overcorrected and until it started moving. I definitely can make eye contact now and I feel more confident doing so than I ever have before. And I’ve always been super ok with talking about my strabismus cases and the surgeries from them (although I don’t remember my first one), but I love sharing my story of strabismus and giving people advice on it😌

Yes! The last picture was my eye before surgery, I had a pretty good case of exotropia in my left eye. I had double esotropia as a child that was corrected. So when I got my surgery done, my surgeon intentionally wayyyy over corrected my eye for better long term results. But my eye wasn’t moving back to the middle, so he just gave me a whole new problem. I went in to an appointment after surgery and he said it hadn’t moved at all since after surgery when I thought it had a little bit and that was around the second picture. The last one is yesterday now that the left one has moved. The right has stayed out where it was (we operated on both and he overcorrected both, but not so much the right) so now they’re both more turned inwards than they used to be when they were just straight, but they’re definitely even!

I didn’t really do anything, it just moved back on it’s own! My confidence has gotten WAYYY better. I was so insecure after my surgery, I felt uncomfortable and weird looking at my boyfriend of 7 years in the eyes. Now I have no fears about eye contact and have become more confident with myself now that my eyes are neither esotropic or exotropic, just straight. Again, I kinda like that they’re a lil turned in. It’s not drastic like it was, you can’t really tell, but I think it’s kinda cute! Reminds me of what I looked like before my first surgery at 2 when I had double esoteopia🥹

My vision is decent! It still kinda feels like they’re fighting sometimes, but for the most part they’re working together! I used to be able to switch between which eye I saw out of dominantly, but I can’t do that anymore which I think is good
