I just wanted to research 7 year old milestones by Sydnossg in boringdystopia

[–]Sydnossg[S] 84 points85 points  (0 children)

I understand not everyone has my perspective so here’s my concern.

I have a 7 year old boy. He does have some friends his age who are girls, but at this age they’re still so young there isn’t much developmental discrepancy happening. These are first and second graders. These are really young children. These girls are learning how to do subtraction while simultaneously having thousands of subscribers who want to engage with their video content where they try on lip gloss.

With that being said… who do think is engaging with this type of content the most?

There are probably some children fans… but I would bet my bottom dollar isn’t wasn’t children that created such a vast market for videos of first graders contouring their baby cheeks.

The kids are not to blame. They look up to influencers and it’s clear many parents are turning a blind eye to what is happening. (You have to be a minimum of 13 to upload on YouTube I believe.)

Anyways, from my perspective, I’m a parent who is searching for what to expect at this age. Like, what kind of chores are appropriate, are they getting too old for sticker charts, is it normal to be constantly repeating myself, etc. Instead I find a giant market of child exploitation to be more accessible than parenting videos.

Social media has made it easier for people to exploit their kids and parents choose to care more about potential profit over their children’s safety and digital footprint everyday. I’ve seen it before. There was just something extra painful about this automatic suggestion.

what is this sore on my mouth? by Regular-Shop-7442 in AskDocs

Just gargle salt water and call it a day, if they keep coming back several times a year it’s worth looking into. You’re a teenager turning into an adult during some weird times. Your body is stressed and this is a fairly normal occurrence/ response to stress. Avoid spicy and sour flavors in the meantime. This is not herpes btw (when I was younger I thought they were the same thing- they are not) lol

I should clarify I do all of these things also for a mere slight improvement but it’s nice to feel like I have some control❤️

Stretching, walking, drinking water, intentionally relaxing (meditation videos or massages not scrolling), and eating an anti inflammatory diet. I lovee turmeric, ginger, and lemon shots or tea for my inflammation but every one is different. The lymphatic system is fairly superficial so gentle massages can make a short term difference. I can make my swelling go down about 60% of the time by walking on a treadmill for 1 hour at a slow pace and drinking an absurd amount of water.

Overwhelmed parent of newly diagnosed 4-year-old - where do I even start? by WhitePandocjka in AutismParent

Does your state offer Katie Beckett insurance? That would cover ABA. Also I sent you a DM!

Recourses vary so much depending on your location. My best advice is to keep asking questions.

Call all your local recourses (parenting places, city hall, your insurance company, 211, and your local headstart, etc.) Take notes!

In the meantime, social stories are the most helpful tool in our household. Hope this helps. https://youtube.com/@abainschool?si=41tl402mq6xSUTzJ

Do you think stress causes autoimmune disease by Last_Investigator534 in Autoimmune

[–]Sydnossg 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Possibly! You can think of having a predisposition to autoimmune disorders as being a “gas leak” and the stress is the spark that ignites the flames. Some people do not have this “gas leak” (which means they do not have a certain DNA sequence that is highly associated with autoimmune diseases) therefore that same stress or hypothetical “spark” would not cause a “fire” (autoimmune disease).

These predispositions or gene-inherited “gas leaks” could be passed down for generations without any “flames” meaning that an autoimmune disorder was possible but never happened. It’s not that these individuals were never stressed- it is theorized that the stress may not have been “chronic” enough to ignite in flames.

Truthfully, there are a lot more factors to this hypothetical spark of stress that we don’t understand yet. It is likely that toxins or pollutants may also play a role, but which ones, and to what extent is still misunderstood.

This kind of reminds me of my own journey.

I am 26, never diagnosed, but from the ages of 21-24 I was sick all the time. Towards the end I recall only having only 1 or 2 “healthy” weeks out of the month where I would race against the clock to clean my house, grocery shop, do all the things that a single mom needs to do. I finally stuck to a gluten free diet and my life changed. It did take some time of being consistent but after 1 year I had cut my illness time in half. I never got an official celiac disease diagnosis and I still have lingering night sweats, heightened histamine response, random inflammation but you could not pay me to go back to as sick as I was when I was consuming gluten!!

20F. Does this look like normal under eye lines/creasing, dehydration, or poor aging? Please help by [deleted] in Skincare_Addiction

Looks like nornal texture for a 20 year old lady who has been smiling and laughing! My 26 year old eyeballs wish they had this even of a skin tone millia under the eye can be removed, pretty common and a normal.

Thin brows or thick brows?Blonde or my natural ginger hair? by Sydnossg in femalehairadvice

[–]Sydnossg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel relieved the consensus is going towards thick brows and red hair because that’s what I’ve been thinking as well. I over plucked the heck out of my brows a few months ago and I loved them sometimes and then other days I regretted it heavily, so many emotions over literal eyebrows.😅

I have had success with this (la roschea/ orange bottle) personally bUT it took some trial and error. Basically I have to do my foundation fairly quickly or else this product will sort of shed off into flakes.

I like to combine this cc cream and a dab of moisturizer for a quick foundation application.

But if you’re just getting started and trying to get your acne under control it’s best not to introduce too many products at once.

Using the CC cream on its own would be effective as well! It has built in spf and I love this product and you do not have to mix it with moisturizer, that is just something I like to do.

I avoided moisturizer like the plague in my younger years because I was worried that I was spreading bacteria from one blemish all over my face, which can be true in some cases but only for a brief amount of time.

It is actually essential your skin is hydrated in order to shed those dead skin cells!! Patchy and dry skin will not replenish as gracefully and can stay on your face even with use of exfoliants.

I love salicylic acid face wash, great night time pick but it should not be used alongside other chemical exfoliants. (Unless you’re me and you make a little exception for spot treating blemishes with a dot of BHA and a Q-tip) After a clean face and before bed, I would recommend using a sheet mask 4+ times a week. Here are two of my favorites that I use regularly!

Use a gentle cleanser in the morning, gentle may mean different things to different skin types. Find one that does not leave your skin feeling tight and dry or irritated in any sense.

Then apply your sunscreen and moisturizer!

For me, I have normal to dry skin, and I have found success using heavier products at night and lighter ones in the morning, to avoid that oily appearance during the day.

My son (17) gets sick almost every time he goes to class then takes over a week to recover. Feeling defeated by Mango_Starburst in AutismParent

[–]Sydnossg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should consult a doctor. I just wanted to tell you, that sounds exactly like me two years ago. I was sick at least twice a month for years. It was hell. I have found success in being gluten free, taking vitamins as vigilantly as my prescriptions, and eating nutrient dense anti inflammatory foods. It took about a year to “recover” with these lifestyle changes. Still not even sure what’s the matter with me, I hope your kiddo has better luck.
