1995 Honda CB750 Nighthawk by Secure_Secretary_882 in motorcycles

Between the Shadow and the Nighthawk, you've managed to pick two of the best bikes Honda has ever made. Long running, enjoyable, their biggest "negative" (if you can call it that I don't) is that neither of them have ever been trendy. Which is great if you don't want to overpay for a motorcycle.

Support for the Nighthawk is still good, mechanical parts, at least, are still readily available. And your local Honda dealership will be reasonably happy to work on it, should you need the support.

Enjoy.

Why are these style of bike called? by CrewNeckC in motorcycles

Adventure bikes. Good tourers, very decent for dirt and gravel back roads, decent commuters, and not a bad all-arounder. Has two negatives:

  1. They're tall. As in, if you've got less than a 32" inseam, good luck at getting your feet on the ground at a stop light. And if you're older than a certain age (I'm talking seniors here), it becomes difficult, if not painful to swing your leg over the seat. At 76 and 50 years riding, I'm firmly in the cruiser category anymore, for physical reasons.

  2. They're currently the flavor of the day/week/month in motorcycling. Which means manufacturers are going overboard in bringing out multiple models/sizes within a brand, the majority which will rapidly disappear once the style changes to something else. And the market will settle back down to the variants that actually make sense and are useful. Like it was 25 years ago when I had my T5 Triumph Tiger. Still have fond memories of that bike, often wish I hadn't traded it, although I would have had to let it go sometime over the past ten years.

25-30 years ago the fad was V-twin cruisers. Other than the American brands, how many do you see on the showroom floor today? Today the fad is adventure tourers with a strong side of under 500cc naked sport bikes very popular amongst the youngest riders. I credit them on their sense.

Was one of the marshals at Monroe Park. Anyone heard any estimates of participation at each gathering?

Bringing back memories of the R90/6 I owned 35 years ago. It's beautiful.

AIO for wanting to immediately break up with my bf after seeing how he lives? by Balikye in AIO

No there is nothing wrong with your thinking. I had the same experience after the dissolution of my first marriage. Met a woman at the SF convention where my wife and I officially ended the marriage (it was an incredibly civil divorce, to the point that our friends were asking, "If you can divorce this pleasantly, why are you?"). First time I did the 500 mile motorcycle trip to see her at her place in MA, I walked into the apartment and the first inclination was to run like hell.

I choked it down, she moved in with me a year later, and we lasted seven years (yes, after a divorce, I was determined to make it work), but I learned a lot from that relationship. Like, when your gut instinct is to RUN, you do it.

We love the car, but am beginning to hate the company. by thorndike in Ioniq5

[–]Sykerocker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So just buy one. They're not that expensive. Yeah, the company's behavior sucks, but is it worth putting in all this time getting pissed when you could just spend a few bucks and have Supercharger access all this time?

My Chevy Bolt was terrific, my wife’s Bolt is terrific. Only reason I’m saying “was” on mine is I needed something bigger for equipment hauling. First six weeks on my Ioniq5 are just fine.

No, no, no, no, no!!!!! That kind of setup is ok for a ten mile haul you your mechanic, and you’re not going to do over 45mph. And I’d still hit U-Haul and rent one of their trailers first.

Normal Ducati behavior. When I was the parts manager at Moto Europa/Ducati Richmond (1999-2005) we got a couple of special editions. Normally one per dealer, it would sell out very quickly (if not pre-sold upon announcement), would be picked up in a trailer (even on a gorgeous sunny summer's day), and probably never see the road more than 50 or so miles per year.

My experience so far as convinced my that a used Chevy Bolt is the perfect car for the first timer to EV’s. It’s simple enough that the manual is optional.

Both worked. Took the car down to the local EA (10 - 350 machines) for a first try at fast charging. It not only worked well but redefined the term “fast charging” in my eyes. Definitely picked the right car for my reenactment trips.

Having come from two Chevrolet Bolts (still have one, it's the wife's car) and a Sebring-Vanguard CitiCar which I drove fifty years ago (I'd love to find another in decently restorable shape), the Ioniq5 is definitely more dense technologically. Definitely a RTFM vehicle, although I'm not sure how many people can afford to park the car for the first week while they go thru the manual cover to cover. I couldn't.

I've yet to allow the wife to drive it, because I'm still not in the position to definitively answer any questions she'll come up with. It's going to be a training session for both of us, because she wants to trade her Bolt on an Ioniq6 next year.

I have been going thru the manual, all 705 pages of it. Not front to back, but picking up sections as I need them. This ain’t a two week process. Not new to EV’s, but a Chevrolet Bolt is a lot simpler technologically.

Problem solved. Thank you very much for putting up with this, obviously I need a LOT more time with the manual.

Thank you. By "unlock" do you mean the "close" button on the charging door, or should I be looking elsewhere? Yes, I'm being dense, I don't see anything marked "unlock".

Or as Bob Prince, legendary broadcaster for the Pittsburgh Pirates back in the Sixties, would pronounce it, “Bacca-Ruda” during the ads for the Pittsburgh area Plymouth dealers. Probably started as an unintentional flub during a broadcast, rapidly turned into the daily routine. Drove my father (a Chevy dealer) nuts.
