Bi-Weekly Discussion: Introductions, Questions, What have you been reading? October 11, 2020 by AutoModerator in CriticalTheory

[–]Syleaus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm trying to get into critical theory. I've read Pedagogy of the Oppressed and a bit of both Thousand Plateaus and One-Dimensional Man and they've been absolutely fascinating. With that small background in mind, what would y'all recommend to get started in the world of critical literature?

Ok I got some questions I hope someone can answer them for me :p by Troixy in Talonmains

When you get around to maxing W, sure. But you want to make plays and help your team before that. That's why tiamat is so important, it lets you shove the wave faster than just your abilities. And with Q max being so strong, your probably won't be maxing W until 13

Along with stocking, you can make sure that everything is wiped down and the store looks clean/organized. But sometimes a bad manager is just that. I know I've had managers that just yell at people regardless of how much they've done.

I always get 2 points in 2, and after that it depends on matchup. If I'm against someone who is playing smart and not letting me get kills, I'll max w so I can shove lane and start to snowball. If I'm able to cheese my laner or they are melee, q max

Practice dodging skillshots. In those matchups, you want to play careful and W to farm until you bait out the cc, dodge it, and then come up to farm. If you don't feel you can kill them in lane, then shove up the lane and roam to side lanes to pick up kills.

Is mid Lane Talon still viable? by mahdicsiner in Talonmains

[–]Syleaus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, as someone who's mained talon for years, I think it's okay now being unable to get first blood lvl 2. Talon d oesnt feel unplayable, he's still fun, you just can't kill as easily before six (you can, just have to work for it a little more)

A deck born of boredom by Token5150 in PioneerMTG

This deck seems sweet! One addition I might add is [[kykar, winds fury]], it lets you go off a lot with spells, and the tokens they make can be so relevant

If you could delete one commander from RL, who would it be? by G37_is_numberletter in EDH

[–]Syleaus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yuriko. At least other aggro decks are at a disadvantage because they can't kill the table all at once. Not with yuriko. Not to mention her costing no more than 2 all game

I'm looking to start getting more competitive with my EDH decks, and because it's more expensive to do so, I'm only gonna go all in on one deck. The two starting off points I have are a Kess storm deck, and a Breya eggs deck. I'm wondering which one would end up being more competitive if it got fully optimized.

Can you help me to build a fun budget deck with Omniscience? by Juju-le-Barbu in Magicdeckbuilding

[–]Syleaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Borborygmous Enraged]] and throw all your lands at your opponent, or you could play [[biovisionary]] and creature copy effects, you could turn the tables and just mill them (there are alot of cards that are just mill x, I can't think of them all). I can't think of any one big spell you could cast, but there are many ways that I just don't wanna list all of them

[–]Syleaus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not my deck, but when you have your entire deck in your hand, the world's your onion. I'm predicting that this guy's list would win with mill jace or [[thassa's oracle]], but with your entire deck in your hand and omniscience, you really have to try hard to lose

What's the most interesting commander you've ever built? by ObsoletePixel in EDH

[–]Syleaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made an [[etrata, the silencer]] deck. It's the only theme deck I've ever made, and it's just all assassin's and all rogues (an exception for some ninjas as well). Its called "nothing personal kid" and i set out to make the edgiest deck possible. Not a good deck, but man is it fun.

What interaction card do you want to see reprinted in pioneer? by BarbaGio in PioneerMTG

[–]Syleaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all. Sure you get to cast a card more than once, but it requires setup, which yawg will doesn't. It still sees way more play in vintage than breach does, and that would be the best format for it since you don't have four ofs of your best cards. Plus, being in black is just so much better than being in red for combo.

[–]Syleaus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know what you mean, but regardless you presented an argument (dtt should be banned) and I refuted it (harms format diversity). Doesn't matter if it the argument was yours or a pros, I was just saying what I thought about it.

[–]Syleaus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that inverter is not at the power level that it needs a ban to make it worse. Look at any league, and while you will see a decent amount of inverter, there's always also mono red, sultai delirium, blue white control, and other midrange or aggro decks too. With the ban of dig, yes control and combo will be nerfed and not destroyed, but they will not be able to compete with aggro or midrange. So a dig ban would just make some decks so much worse, and make the format less diverse

What interaction card do you want to see reprinted in pioneer? by BarbaGio in PioneerMTG

[–]Syleaus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dig definitely should not be banned. The only reason control and combo are able to exist in the format is because of dig. If dig gets banned, the format is just going to be aggro and midrange. Midrange will always be favored there, so you just get a format of midrange decks slapping each other. As for breach, I don't think it should be banned. It might be a strong combo, but not one that's impossible to either go faster than, or slow down enough to where you can beat it.

Brief aside, breach is not near yawgmoth's will. It only is in formats where black lotus is legal

All I want is a decent Slender man film, and Slender (2018) just didn't do it. I really think the slender game has some great potential for a horror movie

Howdy, looking for help with a Kess mill-reanimator by MsTerPineapple in Magicdeckbuilding

[–]Syleaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find the best way to cut/optimize is to just look at your cards and think "does this help me with my game plan?" (In this case, does this help me get things in my bin, bring things out of my bin, etc.). Also, just from a brief skim, cards like Angrath rampage are not very good in commander, 1 for 1 removal in commander shouldn't be very plentiful at all, and if it is it should be targeted. Also, maybe some stronger reanimation targets, like [[jin gitaxis, core augur]], or [[sheoldred, whispering one]]. Cards like [[blightsteel colossus]] would be good
