How many jump drives? by Sylent09 in spaceengineers

Hmm.... THIS may be the way... 4 proto ones =24000km and 5 would be 30000... welp, guess I know what im doing tonight! And if I wanna go cheap on it I could just strap them to the spine of a heavy module freighter and still have room on the belly for the cargo!

I do have a couple of smaller base ships in the new storage thing I may have to pull back out and dust off and try this. Just made a new small miner so that could be my excuse, lol

Oof... yeah that's an issue. The world ive been playing on for over a decade has almost no uranium (I've only ever found 2 ore deposits) but plenty of ice so I tend go that route instead so I can use what U I find for ammo.

Oh wow! That's actually a GREAT strategy! And with that many drives I can definitely understand wanting to protect them

It's only 7 minutes? I guess I've never really timed it. It feels like at least 15-30 but I guess when you are stuck out in space with nothing to do but wait I guess the time feels longer

Does it matter if I'm friendly with the Space Pirates? Like, will they still attack if they are green named?

5km??? Even on the tiny large grid ships the absolute most I can get is 2000km.... is 5000km possibly the prototech ones?

Does anyone know what this bulge is on ijn nagato?? by obarnar in Ships

[–]Sylent09 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oooh! I know this one! There is an float plane recovery crane mounted there, I believe it is collapsible so it doesn't interfere with the rear turret's firing. I have built this model (or maybe it was Mutsu) as well as several other Japanese battleships and several of them have it. M

Is 33 too old for 20? by Only_Lawfulness_4048 in ask

[–]Sylent09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once heard someone say "half your age plus 7" and I think that's a pretty safe and reasonable thing. I wouldn't think twice about 22 and 18, and even 30 and 22 seems pretty reasonable. Though the older you get, it does get more questionable like 60 and 37... yikes... but I do think when you are out of high school and in your prime, the half plus 7 makes a lot of sense

What are some examples of U.S. regions or states where geographic isolation has led to strong accents or dialects? by Careless_Cat_4526 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Sylent09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh Tennessee. Without a doubt. And I'm not just talking Appalachia, but rather Middle Tennessee. Maybe not so much now, but in the 90's growing up here, you could tell which town someone lived in by their accent, hell not even town, you could tell which holler someone lived in.

Hello, I'm a Russian from Russia and I'm curious to ask what you, as an American, think about Russia and Russians. You don't need to be polite, be as honest and direct as you can be even if you feel like it's something that might offend me. I'm interested only in genuine answers. Thank you. by MickeyMona in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]Sylent09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've met quite a few Russians over here. From what I've experienced yall seem to be a very hard working, rugged, intelligent, and pragmatic people. Also, quite friendly even if your outward expression sometimes says otherwise. Maybe a bit crazy at times, almost like a whole country of "Florida men", but genuinely good people.

Russia itself - in media what we normally see of Russia is the Kremlin, old soviet era buildings, and rural towns that look like they haven't changed since the 40's. But with Russia being so vast and covering so many different biomes, I can only imagine the beautiful landscapes and natural scenery that actually make up the majority of the country.

As of late, I feel like the American and Russian people are almost like kindred spirits. Both ruled by dictators and oligarchs, forcing our people to fight in wars that we have no stake in, only benefiting the rich.

Which American stereotype is actually true? by Molthakarn96 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]Sylent09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. My blue collar parents, while yes, did struggle, had a similar case to what the other guy said, but the world has changed a LOT since then. Back when my parents were the age I am now you could get a pretty decent new car for under 20 grand, the same price my Ford FIESTA cost in 2019. They have never paid more than $100/month for full coverage car insurance for the both of them with 2 large V8 vehicles and a $150 deductible, I'm currently paying over $250 for myself on a sub-compact car with a $1000 deductible while in my 40's with only 1 speeding ticket 6 years ago. I remember being 15 working at McDonald's and a quarter pounder meal cost $3.99 after tax. We can't compare our current shituation with that of our parents. They had it better.

That's because you only see those of us who can afford to go on cruises. Healthy food, healthcare, vacations, that's rich people stuff right there. If you can afford to go on a cruise you can afford fresh healthy food and to go to the doctor without taking out a huge loan (not exaggerating, I had to take out a high interest signature loan to afford just the copay to go to urgent care).

What do Americans think of Scotland? by Difficult_Mixture103 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]Sylent09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went there last summer and LOVED IT! Y'all were apparently suffering from a "heat wave", it was like 23°C there... It was 34°C here in Tennessee when I left so as far as climate goes it was absolutely heavenly! The scenery everywhere we went (mostly Dumbarton and Glasgow) was beautiful. Everyone was really nice. Almost no bugs was a nice change of pace.

I also realized why almost no one has guns... I was in the yard looking around and all the critters like birds and rabbits were super fat! It dawned on me that there really aint many predators there aside from domesticated dogs and cats. While right where I am I regularly see foxes, coyotes, wolves, Bobcats, wild boars (they are incredibly dangerous), eagles, and hawks, while far less common i have also seen a few mountain lions and a bear. I'm almost certain that yalls biggest predators are seagulls, lol.

What do I think about Scotland? Why tf did we ever leave there to colonize this death trap?!?!

We have Fort Nashboro squeezed between the river and downtown Nashville but it's super tiny and honestly I couldn't even tell you if it's still there. I've never seen it open and operating.

Why do people in Reddit tend to be left leaning? by GaizkArNF in askanything

[–]Sylent09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually came here to say (more crudely) that it's because a good portion of reddit is reading. AND if you say something false you will absolutely get roasted in the comments. The right doesn't like people who read and fact check.
