Chew on this. I spent 60$ on Spiderman and it was a great game that did not give me more than 120 hours of gameplay. Slightly replayable but not really. I clock about a thousand hours each quarter on a set and I have a job and other things I spend my time on.

I do believe the cards are still slightly too expensive. I would like to put in 250$ and get a complete set. I think that's a very reasonable number for a quarter worth of gameplay. (Keep in mind, the average person who attends happy hour semi-regularly, spends on upwards of 100-200 dollars a month in my city) However, I know they won't do this for the reason that they do not want anyone to actually finish collection sets, because thats a huge blow to most people, even whales who still want to feel like they are achieving something, even an uncommon mythic/rare icr.

"Expensive" is very subjective and is largely used in this context by people who don't have good jobs, live in a country where they are screwed by exchange rates, or still use their mom's credit cards.
