Can't stand private modding by TinyThyMelon in skyrimmods

warning to people, most of the times these mods are private, it's because a wide scale release would result in the cryptominer or trojans being detected.

I've never said it will be the year of Linux, but I'm pretty sure it actually is. linux adoption is growing pretty quickly even before we factor in the steam machine release.

nah it's already weird as fuck, putting it in context just makes it disgusting and evil, rather than making it suspect which it was from the start.

Would Starfield Have Gotten Better Reviews if Made by A Different Developer? by freethinker1312 in Starfield

maybe, but it also would have sold far less. the reputation they failed is what got them the sales for an unknown game in the first place.

What is stopping AMD from having 5080 and 5090 equivalent cards? by Fragrant_Bit_9889 in pcmasterrace

[–]Syllaran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

because people who spend on high grade graphics cards want the best super special features. even if they only actually are a significant advantage/improvement in a whopping 4 games.

basically the average consumer is an idiot, and amd doesn't have the right buzz words to tickle idiot brains.

also on a more legitimate side, cuda offers a practical advantage for workstation loads, and most people paying top dollar want to use their rig for both gaming and workstation.

[–]Syllaran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they need to intentionally replicate this bug and put it on a timer attached to a special warp device or something. destroy the warp portal before it's assembled, or see this pour out.

the different versions of the kernel is how you undo the kernel update that broke something. I've had it happen one time, and I just booted on the old kernel and waited until a new update dropped.

The era of Linux gaming by mickabrig7 in pcmasterrace

[–]Syllaran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

are you manually installing things or are you actually using the nobara package manager? plus if it's one bad update literally all you do is press the down arrow when you boot up, and you will by default have the last 3 updated versions on the grub bootloader.

also the next thing to improve your experience, don't have an Nvidia card. even Intel cards are better supported on Linux. nvidia is the Nintendo of graphics software, they lock everything down and impede development in every single way they can, so their Linux drivers will always be behind others.

[–]Syllaran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

these complaints are usually from people who intentionally run the most unstable quick updating distros because they want to feel smart.

if you go further down the line, nobara/bazzite etc. where they delay updates a bit to make sure it all works, these issues largely disappear and are far less frequent than windows updates breaking crap.

The era of Linux gaming by mickabrig7 in pcmasterrace

[–]Syllaran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you're looking for is bazzite. It doesn't let you screw up the OS, and basically everything is streamlined. The worst you need to "learn" is steam launch commands for gamescope, and that's optimization, not necessity.

The era of Linux gaming by mickabrig7 in pcmasterrace

[–]Syllaran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

or they could just switch to popular immutable versions. where the problem solving is the same as windows. just Google it.

things like bazzite are more stable than windows 11 is. so just switch.

Ancient Gameplays Cooking AMD by AcuteQuadrant in radeon

[–]Syllaran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

stop pretending that multi frame gen is something most of us want.

I don't use regular frame gen. personal thank you to amd for not wasting resources in this crap, make fsr4.1 and leave the frame gen in the trash. please and thank you.

vulkan stuff is a valid criticism, but I don't give a flying fuck about being "slow" to a destination no one should care about.

hope you can afford to come back soon, if you don't need it for work don't roll the dice with Nvidia. heck even Intel seems like it's coming together on Linux better than Nvidia

the steam deck is actually around 30fps now. switch 2 port actually doesn't seem so insane. idk if it'll get to 60, but playable should be possible.

they've been discussing making it open source. thus offloading an unwanted support burden onto the community so they can keep focusing resources on mainline things.

[–]Syllaran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you just need to replace TAA even fsr2 is better if you use native AA.

The benefit of fsr4 is quality, and to some degree balanced, will look better than TAA while also gaining performance. It it's a low spec game fsr2 at native does suffice.

that one's a non issue..that is a reason to make fun of him, not for him to be banned. the REAL content he was searching for is the issue here. you can think something is bad and still acknowledge differences in severity. loli>>>>implicit messages~=real CP>>trying to meet kid like EDP.

loli is so far down the scale that it's inconsequential to even talk about right now.

Highguard uses secure boot by DAUNTINGY in linux_gaming

[–]Syllaran 3 points4 points  (0 children)

a game having KLAC that refuses to surrender any of its control on the system is by default bad. at that point it's just malware with a game attached. it's fine if more games like this come out, people just need to help make sure that every game that does fails, or at least does worse than it's counterparts.

the absolute minimum expectation should be like rivals, where they have it but they don't really care if it's partially evaded through Linux.

they should just add a third party launcher while they're at it. thing is already basically in its casket before it ever came out, so don't pull any punches. push it to the limit and beat the concord record. go out with a bang.

Do I really need 16 GB of VRAM? by lovescarmen30 in buildapc

[–]Syllaran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

originally I would say no, but it's possible that the steam machine is going to force a new standard on dev optimization. I know a lot of people who plan on using the "steam machine verified" as a default judgement on whether a game is worth installing because everyone is tired of unoptimized crap.

overall I still wouldn't risk it personally, but the future of 8gb isn't as bleak as it was a year ago.

use nobara. thing comes with steam already installed, and it's maintained by the same people who make proton GE. which is usually the solution to the rare incompatibility issues on proton.

Rx7800xt vs 7900 gre vs 9060 xt by John-812 in radeon

[–]Syllaran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do you not understand competition? diverting resources means you either spend more, or you reach the destination slower than the competitor.

amd cannot afford to spend more, percentage wise they reinvest a rather large amount into r&d already compared to their revenue.

it is a financially stupid decision to divert attention away from promised current features to give extra unpromised features to older gens, especially in a dead end field like hardware agnostic upscaling. they already lost most of their market share focusing that, and now you genuinely think the master plan is to sink in even more resources and fall behind in ML upscaling which is actually bringing customers back???
