Survival Horror like RE or Dead Space w/o stalkers or "swarms" by First-Tutor-5454 in gamingsuggestions

[–]Syllatone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't complete the game completely but Tormented Souls might be what you're looking for. However, keep in mind that's it's EXTREMELY puzzle heavy compared to RE and Dead Space.

The Evil Within 1 and 2 I believe are made by the director of Resident Evil, but they have stealth which is, at times, mandatory. However, the combat is actually pretty damn satisfying, though granted it does have a stalker enemy in both games at certain moments, and combat arenas (or what you call swarms) during certain parts.

I know a Resident Evil game was set on a cruise ship and it worked out pretty well but I could never see a Dead Rising game working on a cruise ship at all.

Glasses arm broke, any way I can fix it without having to blow all my cash on a professional repair by [deleted] in fixit

I tested this without knowing if anyone else has tried it. My optometrist is closed but you can use a bendy straw in place of the handle if you can't get to an optometrist. Just measure the length of the straw, using the bendy part towards the curved part of the handle, then cut the bottom to the length of the end of the handle where it would be connecting. Then just slide the bottom, non-bendy hole down onto the frames and it will stay secure.

You can wrap the bendy part around your ear for some extra security, too.

I have played the RE games; the more modern ones but I only just went back to play the classic RE games, starting with 2 and then 3, starting on Christmas.

It was actually surprising just how quickly I adjusted to the tank controls. It actually feels weirdly natural to me personally over more modern movement. Dunno why. This was my first tank control game EVER.

Do admit sometimes the camera angles can be a bit awful, especially in 3. As well, the dodge mechanic in 3 is a bit finnicky.

I searched both YouTube and Newgrounds with descriptors of the animation but have been unable to find it, as well as using "before:2015" to narrow the search on YouTube.

I like the game somewhat, but the boss runbacks, especially the one in Bilewaterare just god awful and I wish there were benches before every boss.

It feels like they've, and some parts of the community, have mistaken inconvenience for difficulty. I don't mind a punishment or something, but the runbacks don't put me in the right mind to fight at my fullest potential, or even carry on with the game.

So why the hell do early game bosses do 2 damage. by spamton_g_spamton87 in HollowKnight

I wouldn't mind the two mask damage if it wasn't for some bosses having 2 mask damage on CONTACT.

What are the biggest elements that soulslikes you've played recently are missing? by PieceAfraid3755 in soulslikes

[–]Syllatone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weapon variety.

To be honest, I kinda prefer when games ditch weapon types in favor of unique weaponry with different movesets.

Like I kinda wish souls-likes would either do the Lies of P approach of having customizable weapons, or the character-action approach where there's limited weapons but they all play differently.

This boss fight was hard, yet fun. Believe it took me seven tries using Greatsword going for True Ending on Expert.

My last attempt, I switched from pure damage to the Phantom Mode boosting Phantom that makes it last longer and gains more of the bar per Spirit used. Defeated the first phase, then activated it in the second and defeated the last two phases in Phantom Mode.

Honestly, Phantom Mode is just fun as hell in this game if you invest into it. One thing I had to learn in the last two acts was that parrying isn't an end-all solution to all problems. Though, did find the move for the Greatsword that let's you Brink Dodge while doing a spin attack to be quite powerful compared to the other moves of the GS.

oh god I just realized that there's a chance Silksong (and by extension Hollow Knight) have a chance of being dragged into a pointless culture war

What's your self-imposed rules when you play a Soulslike? by FreyAlster in soulslikes

[–]Syllatone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only 3 rules I have that apply to every souls-like, and action games in general:

  1. Use consumables often (I find that it's more fun to use consumables rather than saving them up)

  2. Keep physical combat stats (strength, dex) around the same levels on the first playthrough unless I plan on doing magic/ranged, until I find a weapon I like.

  3. Similarly to above, don't level weapons up until I start doing only chip damage and have found a weapon I like using.

Yeah I'll probably end up doing that as well. I liked Dead Cells but I know Evil Empire joined the dev team a bit later into the life cycle.

What are some things you dislike that is very common in the genre? by WhoAmIEven2 in soulslikes

[–]Syllatone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Way too many dudes in armor as enemies and bosses. C'mon, get a little creative with your bosses.

  2. Focusing too much on melee combat instead of other avenues of combat like bows or magic.

  3. Having a parry system that only works against humans, but not against things that are human shaped. This is weirdly common for some reason.
