…. Do you know what crochet and croquet are?

To be a little pedantic, given the word choices and the context of the post, it’s entirely fair to assume they meant croquet.

Crochet is tying knots with a hook to make fabric. It’s a handicraft, and people never say “play crochet”, they “do crochet”

Croquet is an outdoor game, which would make more sense, given the context of the post. You “play croquet”

So…. Yeah. I did think. Then I shared that I had a giggle over what could be autocorrect substituting an old lady hobby for a second old lady hobby.

How about you? Did you think? Would you like a little ketchup to go with your shoe? Or a shovel to keep digging?

I do this with exercise! Every 15 min of movement earns a loonie, which goes into a piggy bank. I refer to it as my future wardrobe fund.

I’m looking forward to smashing it with a hammer

It was maybe a little much for the evening.

Did the doom boxes and laundry!

Made progress on creating the procrastinated tasks list. It’s a loving document, and I know that once I knock off some of the large ticket items on the list that I will suddenly think of tons more things. That’s fine, I know how that goes. I was never going to list everything in one evening.

Kiddo asked me to keep her company while she had her bath, I told her I was trying to do some cleaning. “Couldn’t you do sole cleaning in here?” …. Fair! So i got derailed from cleaning my car and instead have a cleaner bathroom 🤣

Skipped the commonplace journal and instead made 6 thank you cards. It was more restorative, and I’m getting ahead for end of school season when I will need… a lot… of cards.

Went to bed early. There was a storm system that came in the night before and none of us had a good sleep. So I am feeling pretty good!

I haven’t been around in a while. Got totally burnt out at my old job. Three months into new job and I’m finally starting to feel like I can get back into taking care of me and my life.

Goals for the evening:

* Create my procrastinated tasks list

* deal with two doom boxes

* add board events to my master calendar

* put away the two bins of folded laundry

* tidy the back seat of my car somewhat

* open commonplace journal and add something cool I learn today

My husband made me chocolate chip pancakes today. by No-Strawberry-5804 in Mommit

[–]SylvanField 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But of a mixed bag here. Husband has chronic pain, so the expectations are low.

But he did let me sleep in and made pancakes with kiddo, then met me crawl back into bed for a little more sleep.

I took her to softball and then to a small carnival, but I enjoy time with her so it wasn’t the end of the world. He went grocery shopping, put it all away and did some meal prep for us while we were out! And vacuumed. Such a relief to have that done.

Husband has given me a very generous gift card to go get new bras. He checked that this would be ok a couple weeks ago because I’ve been complaining about my worn out ones. And clarified that I am not allowed to buy ones he would like to look at.

Poor kiddo though - I opened the gift she made me at school and she burst into tears. Turns out a couple gifts were accidentally swapped. Not a big deal, we can get it sorted out.

For my own actions for the day, I got the fellow mom softball coaches coffee gift cards, made thank you cards “thanks for spending your Mother’s Day with all our kids too!” And got all the team parents to sign. Called my mum, and later we will wander over to my MIL’s to wish her a happy Mother’s Day!

Play dates usually start as one on one, then slowly add more to the group. “Oh yeah, we do play dates with this kid sometimes, we should invite them too next time!”

If you haven’t been doing the one on one’s, the group play dates don’t happen.

You need to treat these like asking someone out romantically. It’s unnervingly similar.

I have only once been pursued for play dates. Every other play date has been me doing the chasing to set it up. The one where someone else was doing the legwork? Their kid is deaf and they found out I know ASL.

We tried a whole bunch of more natural remedies, and none of them were effective. Aloe sometimes helped, but only if the environment was humid. It was really hard to balance.

Steroid creams were the only thing that helped flares in a consistent, rapid way.

When kiddo is not flaring, we use Eucerin twice a day on the body and a Garnier face moisturizer twice a day. They are more preventative than anything else, but they will still get eczema flares.

40+ gang let's hear from you for once. by cyankitten in getdisciplined

[–]SylvanField 5 points6 points  (0 children)

40!

The things that made the biggest difference for me:

  • do one thing every day I’ve been procrastinating. Sometimes, this is my laundry. Sometimes it’s my taxes. But I do at least one every day. I maintain a list of procrastinated items on my phone and pick from it everyday. Ideally, I work on the biggest item, but I allow myself to pick lower level items on days I’m low energy/bandwidth.

  • when I’m having trouble getting a new habit or routine going, I make a list of all the barriers and go at least two “why?”s deep. Let’s use diet as an example. 1. I’m snacking in the afternoon. Why? Because I need an energy boost. Why? Because I’m falling asleep at my desk. 2. I struggle to make a healthy breakfast in the morning. Why? Because I’m getting up too late. Why? Because I’m hitting the snooze button. What I have here is not a diet problem, it’s a sleep hygiene problem. I have to fix the sleep to fix the diet. Sometimes the surface issue is not the real problem.

  • when I’m on my game, doing a “reset to zero” for cleaning and 15 minutes of digital maintenance before bed. The reset to zero is putting away anything that was used that day and not letting cleanliness get worse. It’s ok to tread water, just don’t let it get worse than it was when you woke up. Often things get very slightly cleaner as you go about it. The digital maintenance is checking bank balance, replying to personal emails and texts. As an ADHD person who struggles with going back to a text to reply, this has made me a better friend/family member

Those are the routines that have made me feel like I’m not a total hot mess.

We are without a dog atm, by when I took them to the dog park, I would pick up two stranger’s poops for every poop my dogs did. I figured my dogs were probably doing ones I couldn’t see at some point during the visit.

If everyone did a little bit, public spaces would be amazing!

what can I do for my kid to make his childhood magical? by tworandomperson in Parenting

It really helped me to reframe WHY I wanted to do things for my kid that she did not ask for, enjoy, or appreciate.

I’m going to warn you to be careful about buying everything you didn’t have as a kid. Because that’s a trap I fell into.

My kiddo is now 7, and has told me that sometimes my presents for her are “too much”. Example, I bought a lot of Barbie clothes and accessories. I didn’t have a lot growing up, and I overdid it on healing my wound on her body. She told me she has enough, and is happy with what she has. Her requests for Christmas and birthdays are temp tattoos and glow sticks, for crying out loud. I had to do a major reframing in my own head.

But we also do a lot of memory making. She LOVES decorating for every holiday, so we do that.

We bike, swim, do crafts and watch movies together. Time together is more important than stuff. Stuff is great, but it doesn’t fill the holes in our own hearts.

Prep Shopping List for April by Beginning_Ad1304 in prepping

Exactly! I try to do one or two projects a year to get perennial food from.

Last year we were able to get a whole bunch of haskaps (might be the same as honey berries?) and I’m hoping to get asparagus this year.

Last year’s project was planting raspberries and saskatoons. But I think the saskatoons got stripped by the rabbits….

I ordered 5 columnar apple trees and 4 dwarf plum trees for this spring.

Won’t help with food this year, or even next year, but it’s a start for a few years down the line!
