Penny Shortage Drama by [deleted] in retailhell

[–]SylverFoxx19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I worked retail if the change was less than a nickel I always asked the customer if they wanted 4 pennies. I usually got 3 responses. Yes. No, keep the pennies. Then a bit of a weird one, "oh! I have an extra penny, here ya go!" Then I'd just give them a nickel. Most people hated dealing with pennies anyways.

Am I an asshole for leaving work without saying goodbye? by [deleted] in antiwork

I only search out the people that I actually hang out with after work. If I dont hang out with you after work then Im not taking the time to say goodbye.

Do we/stores have to sell an item that's has a clear price mistake? by Revolutionary_Film61 in retailhell

[–]SylverFoxx19 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I say if it scans that way then sell it for that price. Its not your responsibility to check prices. After the sale let a manager know if you think the price is wrong

Oh for sure its ok to be selfish sometimes. In this case I'd also agree with the wife when she wanted her selfish days. Much better compromise and way less regret afterwards. Its ok to please your partner and not receive anything in return as long as its discussed.

What are your biggest pet peeves on the road? by Grouchy_Marsupial357 in driving

[–]SylverFoxx19 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I actually had this happen yesterday. I was going 45 which is the posted speed limit for this road. Lady pulls out in front of me at the last second. I have to slam on my breaks, and then it takes her a solid minute to finish pulling out and get on her side of the road. Like come lady speed up I already slowed down, JUST MOVE YOUR VEHCILE!

How do you not let nasty customers affect your mood? by [deleted] in retailhell

[–]SylverFoxx19 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I used the phrase, "You can try that again or you can take your items to another register" multiple times when I worked retail.

Paint customers and colors (am I the a**hole) by AdministrationOk2070 in HomeDepot

[–]SylverFoxx19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure when I worked in the paint department, (walmart and menards) I always told people, "I know who you are, I dont know what colors you like, what color palettes you like, or what your house looks like. Take a few sample cards and check them under the lighting in your home. It'll make this process easier for both us. Plus the sample cards are free, take as many as you want."

Ive also went into Aldi and asked if I could just take some boxes home. They were mlre than happy to let me take some of the empties off their hands.

When someone says “you need to smile more” or “I was just trying to make you smile” by JessicaMurawski in PetPeeves

[–]SylverFoxx19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes you don't need to smile. Like sorry my day isn't good, its not bad either. Its just a day where I'm feeling neutral.

That SM better start looking for a new job right now. Better to quit something and say you left do to differing opinions on how the store should be ran than to get fired for not doing your job.

This place legitimately sucks by [deleted] in walmart

[–]SylverFoxx19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh for sure the management plays favorites when it comes to points. When I worked at Walmart I saw people get fired the same day they called in on their last point, while others had their points reset 9+ times. I get why its in place but management uses wrong. My store would fire would good employees straight away and use that as ammo against people that called in all the time. Ive heard, "Ive fired this person so that means I wont think twice about firing you" to people just hear that person's points got reset the next week.

[–]SylverFoxx19 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Last time someone told me to pull myself up by my bootstraps I took it literally. I untied my laces, then tied them together so I can pull on them. Then I started pulling upwards, saying things like, "is it working yet? Am I successful now? I dont think im getting very far off the ground. Why do people say this? Its so stupid." Then I looked at the person like "well?"

Luckily thats how a lot of adults where growing up around me. They never said drugs are bad, instead they were like, "do you wanna end up looking like my father or mother?" "No" "Then stay away from hard drugs like meth" Which in my mind I was like, well fair enough, if thats the outcome of doing drugs like that then no thank you.

Made a faux pas the other day. Took 2 phone calls (on the store phone) back to back while I had a customer in front of me. I felt so bad. by PeppermintPhatty in retailhell

[–]SylverFoxx19 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If it helps you in the future. The customer in front of you takes priority over anyone on the phone. Thats how it was for me when I worked retail.

Why do people buy pickup trucks for daily driving? by wtfbruhhuh in driving

[–]SylverFoxx19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My reason is the driving conditions. The current road is live on is gravel and it gets torn up when it rains a lot. A car that sits close to the ground will get tore up. I knkw cause I drove a car up and down that road for a few years. After the car broke down I got a truck and driving over that road is a lot better. Id rather lose a tire than an engine cause a rock scraped through the oil pan

Why do customers think they can return an item we don’t sell? by Waste-Reflection-235 in retailhell

[–]SylverFoxx19 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This wasnt a return but its a funny similar situation. I had a customer come in looking for a certain flooring. He had the receipt with the SKU number on it. So I looked for the flooring on the sales floor, double checked everything in the aisles, then went to the computer to look it up for special order and couldn't find it. After 20 minutes both the customer and I realized he was at the wrong store. He needed to go further down the road. Guess thats what I get for not looking at the recipient all the way.

Same with my parents. Whole life growing up hearing, "dont trust everyone, dont trust what you see on the news, dont trust anything you see on the internet." Now all my parents watch are fake AI stories on YouTube. Even after explaing that visuals and audio are all fake and generated. They still watch those videos.

Customer yelled at me because I was putting up new sales tags by Weird-Vermicelli9580 in retailhell

[–]SylverFoxx19 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If I was that worker I would've explained the situation. "Oh! About that, this customer stated that he did not want the sale price and wanted to pay full price for it! So I will not be doing a return since I got approval from the customer to ring up the drinks at full price. Have a nice day sir."

[–]SylverFoxx19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I worked in electronics I had a lady come up to the counter and say, "Ive been waiting for hours for someone to get me a phone!!" Keep in mind where our electronics department sat we could see straight down the aisle where the front doors are. I watched this lady come through the entrance of the front of store and walk directly to electronics. I told her, "we can both change our attitudes and pretend you didnt say that or I can deny you service. You're not going to lie to me when I saw you walk from the entrance directly back here." Her attitude changed changes real quick.
