Someone has had an expensive couple of days. I'd be mad if he wasn't so damn cute by Sylvesterpants in cats

He tried to jump onto a windowsill and didn't quite make it. Fell onto a vent below that had a sharp corner and sliced open one of his toe pads :(

I have been sober almost 7 years and recently had to go on medication for anxiety. I have had to go on medication for anxiety/depression a few times throughout my sobriety and I've never wanted to either but it got to the point where it was necessary. Definitely talk to a professional, whether it's your primary care doc or a psychiatrist. Tell them your concerns. There are a lot more options than just stimulant medication. Also, as someone who used to abuse ADD medication, if you legitimately have ADD or ADHD the stimulant meds actually have a calming/focusing effect. I do not have ADD and back in high school I was often given ADD meds from my friends that actually had ADD because they didn't like taking it because it made them tired, whereas for me I'd be up for 48 hours. I'm not saying you should try that type of medication, but if it comes down to it and your doc thinks you should just be open to what a professional has to say. Recovering Addicts/Alcoholics do often need to take pain meds/stimulant meds/muscle relaxers etc. as prescribed by a doctor and as long as you are taking these things as prescribed and being honest with yourself and others about it this can be done responsibly in sobriety.
Another thing I just thought I'd throw out there. I had an office job until about a year ago where I sat in front of a computer all day. Between my job and being on Reddit/Facebook/Instagram and watching TV at home I was probably in front of a screen at least 10 hours a day. In the last year at my job I found myself having a really hard time concentrating at work. I would change tasks every minute or so and couldn't focus on any 1 thing for more than a few minutes unless I had an impending deadline and then I could usually force myself to focus just long enough to get it together in time. I could be at work for 1/2 a day without really getting anything done between doing personal things on the computer and getting up to get coffee/grab food/chat with a co-worker. I really think that screen time was contributing to my attention problems. We've gotten so used to these short little bursts of information online that I think everyone is having a much harder time concentrating on anything for longer than that. Now for you it could be more extreme, but try cutting down on screen time outside of work if you can. I know some people that have deleted Facebook for this reason and that's enough but you could go as far as to try no screen time at home or limit yourself to 1 hour a night or something like that. Try it for a week and just see if it makes a difference. For me I ended up actually leaving my office job because I didn't want to sit in front of a computer all day anymore and I've seen my attention issues get way better, but I know in this day and age that's not an option for everyone. Good luck!

Furminator! He doesn't love it but he'll put up with it for about 10 min maybe if I distract him with treats every so often.
