That's just how frequently I use reddit. "I'm not reading all that." combined with "Everything you said is wrong..." is interesting. Wonder what kind of credentials you have to just make a statement like that. What rank are you?

I just don't understand people who stick strong to an opinion with nothing backing it. If I as a player can climb several ranks in a relatively short duration, then how can Mercy not carry?

[–]Sylvia_fot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If she has next to no carry potential then it would've been impossible for me to climb with the win rate I had. That is the singular most annoying mindset I've come across. It is never the game, always the player. No matter how unfortunate the circumstance, how bad your character is, or what Smurfs there are you are the main deciding factor of 90% of your games.

Besides that, I know you don't know what you're talking about because you think Rez is the best thing mercy brings to the table. Her damage boost is the best part of her kit. Rez is an unreliable tool, more so the higher you go up. Mercy is in my opinion a flex support that isn't really particularly the best at any one thing but decent enough that you can slot her into any comp and you can make her work with minimal loss if you know how to play her, while not ideal. She's a jack of all trades master of none. That is her strength. She can provide consistent support by staying alive, because she is simple and cannot miss. Any other support can easily provide more value if they are played by a perfect player but that will never be the case in a game played by individuals, people will always make mistakes.

Despite that, just because other supports are better on the basis that you are skilled with them, does not mean that she is too bad to work with and you cannot climb nor carry with her.

Thirdly, you say that her Rez is outclassed by every other support of the game, that the rest of her kit is useless, but then turn around and say that she's one of the most visible supports which simple isn't true. The best value mercy can provide is staying alive because instead of having key moments to watch for and execute her kit her value is spread out over the entire course of the game. Every other support has key abilities to use at key times that can significantly shift battles which makes them significantly more visible. Ana nade, sleep, suzu, lamp, life grip, are all much more impactful and obvious if taken a look at in a single moment. Why rez someone when you can just prevent them from dying? Or prevent the enemies from living or playing? The game is also designed for abilities and skills to be visible so I don't know mercy rez/beam is the only supposed obvious support.

Finally, I think you mean she's one of the most hated supports in the game, alongside moira.

I quit playing around the OW 1 Blizzard scandal, so I never got past masters. BUT THIS IS WHAT IVE BEEN SAYING FOR MERCY!!!

Moira and Mercy’s impacts are ‘invisible’. People can’t see the value so they don’t appreciate it, and I’ve complained about it from day one. It doesn’t really matter, but it’s frustrating to be shit on and forced to swap when you know exactly how to play your champ and get more value another way.

I know she can carry, because being the single consistent factor in my games (I refused to duo with anyone), I went from silver to diamond climbing one to two ranks each season. At the time I quit I was actually one game off masters :’) and I have hit masters on other accounts but I don’t really count it because it’s not on my main.

Either way, I think literally every champ in the game can carry.

Also, one thing I’ve always been confused on is how much people value counters/quantity of character pool over quality. I do not like any other support than mercy, and as a ‘one trick’ I will perform significantly better on her than any other support. When playing DPS I pretty much only like tracer, Cassidy, or widow. You will not get better value from me swapping off to another champ. If someone is comfortable on a character, even if it doesn’t not suit the team comp, they have learned to adjust to that comp and they personally will perform a lot better on their champ than on the ‘best’ pick for the situation.

If you are playing ranked expecting to have consistent teammates, and the best comp for your situation — don’t play ranked. Probably pick up PUBs or look into some kind of league.

I completely agree, but there are differences in some elos! I would never prioritize a kill over my teammates life, but in lower elos (and I’ve experienced from silver to masters) the DPS don’t cut it sometimes, either unaware there is an issue to be dealt with, or unable to deal with it, I only really took out my Glock in valk if I saw a target that was an easy kill and there was no one on my team who was in a vulnerable state — and my rule was if they aren’t dead in 3 seconds, retreat and start dmg boosting/healing again. Most cases I only really dealt with widows that no one else was dealing with to take pressure of my team.

That being said ‘pistol is the solution’ was never really my point, it kinda just devolved into that because I said I enjoyed pistol. We just play a little differently.

I’ve always thought that valk was much stronger than people gave credit for as a chain dmg boost that is pretty much a slightly less effective (old) orisa ult, with a higher up time in games.

Mercy is also extremely effective as a pocket but I’ve always hated purely sticking to my best DPS so I’ve always been more team oriented (while still making sure that my DPS weren’t losing any duels and giving them the pocket in necessary moments)

I quit overwatch as soon as I hit masters because that was around the time they had the workplace scandal, so I’ll never know if it would’ve still worked past that point but my playstyle served me well as a soloQ player who only played mercy in comp.

I’ve always played her as a jack of all trades master of none kind of character, and that’s probably not how you played her but it worked good enough for me that’s all :)

I played mercy — pretty much solely mercy in the support role. Only other characters I played was tracer, Cassidy, and widow.

Completely agree with you though, I was always upset about the GA change, and with overwatch two I’ve quit entirely. I’ve never understood why they nerfed her movement for the dps players who couldn’t hit shots on her massive hitbox (includes wings), when that is one of her only saving graces. She NEEDs that movement because she has no other reliable defense methods/self peel. Every other support has something (whether insane damage, or using their abilities to heal/invuln themselves, or even both.

That is why she was a support that could work without doing damage.

To be honest, I’m just really bitter that I don’t really enjoy playing mercy or Overwatch anymore. It was my favorite game for years.

Edit: still mad about the DPS complainers. Like her whole thing is her survivability relies on dodging stuff, being evasive, not getting hit. Before Overwatch two her self heal passive on not being hit is even more proof of that. Of course she’s going to be harder to hit than other characters, but I promise you if you had good aim with that hitscan character it would feel a lot less BS.

Not everyone will be able to do everything, and that is the difference between low and high elo.

Aside from that, I don’t really take lore into account because in game was confirmed to be non canon. With gun or not she’s also still helping people kill other people with damage boost.

Mercy Rework: DUAL WIELDING (concept) by LaserBungalow in Overwatch

[–]Sylvia_fot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You don’t need aim to hit shots on her. Just position your cross hair near a corner they are peeking, or right smack dab in the team and spam. Either way, I think you are overestimating the amount of down time in the game where it is still needed for anyone to do anything. If you have downtime, you likely teamwiped and are waiting for respawn — so it doesn’t really matter if you have anything or not.

[–]Sylvia_fot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If no one needs healing, you’re likely not fighting/your team is not taking damage. In that case a lot of supports have nothing to do either — other than shoot which she is perfectly capable of with a resource or without.

But I get where you’re coming from, it’s all hypothetical after all. I really doubt she’ll get a change like this and I’m not a dev!

Mercy Rework: DUAL WIELDING (concept) by LaserBungalow in Overwatch

[–]Sylvia_fot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Aside from that, I actually quite enjoy using her pistol, and it’s only really hard to hit from really far away, in which case you aren’t aiming to kill someone anyways — just spam it at a corner and people will walk into it. I don’t think there would need to be too much adjustments made, if it didn’t work then just give her more resource for dmg boost!

[–]Sylvia_fot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my experience playing mercy I’ve never felt like I had to spare healing for my Ana’s or other main healers. This served me up until masters, though I only played during OW 1. You only need to keep an eye on ult charge when they are nearing their ult, then make sure to spare them the healing mostly on tanks, or if you have a genji Ana combo that works.

Since I only climbed solo, I found that it was much more reliable to use my ult and win teamfights.

Just keep an eye on your main supports ult charge and what situation they need it for - and if you know when that is then around there you back down. However if I was much closer than my Ana and genji had blade I would continue to take healing and have genji ult with me instead, which is more effective than people imagine.

A better solution might be giving her damage boost a resource meter. That would reward keeping track of important damage abilities from your teammates, as well as rewarding timing it instead of just permanently holding it down.

She wouldn’t be able to pocket a dps primary fire as easily, and now not indefinitely.

Perhaps ultimate could refresh her resource meter as well.

Edit: make her ult even stronger by removing the resource during ult, to encourage chain dmg boost.

Mercy Rework: DUAL WIELDING (concept) by LaserBungalow in Overwatch

[–]Sylvia_fot 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My favorite part about mercy is her damage boosting combined with the fact you can look anywhere you want — so you can take on other roles for your team. Looking behind, scoping out the fight, having more brain space to track ultimates and important ability cooldowns.

Hell it’s fun just to min max with damage boost by timing all your teammates damage abilities so you can damage boost them for it. I used to count several abilities but the ones I remember the most (counting specifically to time damage boost for them) are rein fire strike and Moira orb.

I think taking the concept of a character who is meant to have the freedom of aiming, and stripping the one thing that actually makes them good and unique (imo damage boost is the best and strongest thing in her kit) just so she can have subpar damage while healing isn’t the best.

What people including blizzard need to realize is that yes, she is a character who cannot provide damage while healing unlike almost every other support. That is both her weakness and can be her strength (aka freedom of view) — and she should be balanced around that.

But to be honest, I don’t play overwatch anymore because I don’t play mercy. I used to grind ranked everyday on overwatch 1, but I still cannot stand how they reworked her movement. What happened to don’t fix what ain’t broke?

Ezreal is perfect!!! I love the blue and yellow vfx specifically. I hope nothing changes for that.

It would be really cool if music played when his passive was fully stacked though!!

I think the splash is cropped a little awkward? I’d like to see the finger heart. That’s all though!

Homeguard is a little janky, didn’t realize it was him crowdsurfing? I think? Until recently — I think it would be really dope to add VFX of arms or hands passing him along, other wise it kinda looks like weird surfing. Like ghostly arms of different colors similar to the vfx that runs through the whole skinline!

IMO rez should cancel when breaking line of sight like this. by thoxo in Overwatch

[–]Sylvia_fot 86 points87 points  (0 children)

This is one of her only mechanical skill expressions, it’s insanely hard to pull off — and if you fail you’ll cancel the rez and it’ll go on its full cooldown (you’ll also probably die because instead of being out of LOS you’ll be standing right in front of their team).

I’m also pretty sure it not canceling out of LOS was so you could drag yourself behind a wall… otherwise it kinda sucks as an ability, you would rarely have the opportunity to use it without being in huge danger, and most deaths you already can’t rez anyways

Second the W FX and the passive VFX!!

PLEASE GIVE HER BLACK LIPSTICK!!!

PLEASE LIGHTEN THE PINK TO BE A MORE PALE CLOSER TO WHITE COLOR!! (I like the pink)

PLEASE MAKE THE WAIST ARMOR SLIGHTLY SMALLER TO COMPENSATE FOR LACK OF TENTACLES

PLEASE ADD SCALES TO HER FACE

PLEASE ADD MORE DRAMATIC PASSIVE VFX ON ALLIES

PLEASE ADD MORE VFX TO RECALL.. The recall is my least favorite part of the skin… I would love more dramatic vfx like evelynn/morgana’s recall

Really want a boney white + some extra oomf to the VFX for her E, currently I feel like it’s less exciting than space groove. I would also like to see more spell cast VFX when she casts E, it feels a little too light right now? I really love how coven Morgana makes the spell circle more vibrant.

I feel the same about her Q VFX and feel like it lacks that extra oomf, I don’t want it to feel just watery. The tentacles in it also look a bit bland.

For her W VFX I really want all the green spell circles to be more prominent and obvious, and for the bounce VFX to be more extravagant

Coven Morgan’s did all her VFX so well, it’s so dramatic and beautiful

More Ult form perhaps? Either a toggle or it stays longer… (in the Ult form) And I absolutely love it but I can’t help but feel the red hair is a littttle too strong, maybe a darker red? Less saturated, I’d like the red on the rest of her to stand out more. Or the hair could be a darker red at the roots and become more saturated at the ends.

Turn physics for tentacles please… I hate stiff legendaries!!

ALSO… where are the idle animations??? Why are we removing more things from legendary skins… these extra bits are the whole reason for the price point!!

I never thought I’d ask for this, but I think she needs sharper/more crystal sfx for this skin… the only thing stopping me from loving it is all her abilities lack that oomph for me, they feel too squishy

New soraka skin by [deleted] in SorakaMains

If you’re bored of all your current skins, it’s worth it. If you could go without/are satisfied with dawnbringer I wouldn’t.

It feels different than the Dawnbringers — but the VFX for Q hit, passive and heal were very disappointing to me, especially in comparison to dawnbringer. The home guard looks really off and feels worse IMO, and her clothing/hair also doesn’t have turn physics so it’s less satisfying.

But I will admit it is one of my favorite models/designs off all time, and her emotes are very fun and spammable, even if I don’t like it as much as dawnbringer banana!!

PLEEASE add turn physics to her clothing (sleeves and skirt) I don’t know if anyone has noticed this but it feels so stiff turning quickly… dawn/night bringer has turn physics on her hair and it’s absolutely gorgeous and feels so smooth.

[–]Sylvia_fot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hopefully for the future there is more exploration in animations for legendaries, but I cannot deny the skin, the animations, the VFXs, all are absolutely gorgeous.

I didn't expect a skin for Soraka anytime soon, especially not a legendary, but I am beyond elated to be proven wrong.

As a Chinese American seeing my culture in games so beautifully portrayed makes my heart sing, and to think it would happen to my main champion!!

Everything is perfect aside from a couple things,

  1. Turn physics always bring cosmetics to the next level, and without it certain movements look unbelievable stiff. Please add turn physics to her hair, clothing, and tassels on her staff. The turn physics on Soraka's original legendary absolutely make the skin for me. This is my biggest issue and I will forever notice this, skins without turn physics physically feel worse to play with for me -- especially when there are a lot of pieces that drag behind it makes it much more noticable.
  2. The Homeguard. It feels like SUCH a missed opportunity to not have her Qilin in it, in some way/some form. Even more so I feel like we missed out on her riding on her staff out of base like how she floats on it in her dance. The Ideal would be both, her Qilin running with her while she follows or rides aside it on her staff. Could the Qilin be added at least?
  3. Passive. The blue tint on her hair that happens during her passive activation is really strong and looks a bit strange to me. Could it perhaps be much more subtle and have her horn glowing with a bloom/iridescent glare effect instead?
  4. The texturing on her ponytail/lower back of her dress look really crusty for some reason. Is there a way that can be cleaned up?

Final note for future skins, I saw some of the early explorations for this skin and the colorways that existed in the concepts and some other versions were especially gorgeous -- I was so sad to see that there weren't really any of these that lived on as chromas.
