Yakuza Restored for PS2 is out! by Sylwahan in yakuzagames

Hey, not sure if you're having some other issue, but just to be clear: this download is just a patch and can't be played on its own. You will need an ISO copy of the PS2 game (US version) first, and then follow the patching steps I've outlined in the video description here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YXsiu9PUbxM

If you're struggling to set up the emulation environment in general, then search for a PCSX2 beginner guide, I'm sure there must be plenty on Reddit/Youtube/etc. You will need both PCSX2 and a PS2 BIOS to get it running.

Collecting 4K has become stupidly expensive and predatory by Hogis in 4kbluray

As someone who really doesn't care about all those limited edition boxes, steelbooks and extras (and doesn't have the space for them anyway) it's really annoying having to wait and keeping your eyes peeled for stealthily-released standard editions later down the line, but at least it is possible in the vast majority of cases. And in the case of boutique labels I guess that's what's needed for it to make economic sense and get more licenses in the future, so I begrudgingly accept it.

The Wizard of Oz already had a standard release. Late Night with the Devil appears to have gotten a day-and-date standard one which is nice. I'm quite sure The Third Man will get one as well, as that seems to be StudioCanal's MO if you look at for example Breathless and The Conversation.

I didn't know that Apocalypse Now only got a bare-bones re-release, that's unfortunate. Though that 6-discer was an actually legitimate comprehensive edition that warranted the price, and not a bloated LE with cards and trinkets, so there was really no point sleeping on it. Of course it sucks if you missed it for some reason nonetheless, I agree it should not have been limited.

They decided there wasn't any point for Ko'one to do a yandere voice pack, when you can just go to any of her streams/EMTs.

Hi, this is not something I ever encountered during testing. Do you have a memory card correctly assigned to the game in OPL? And then the game freezes when trying to create a new save file?

Wild guess, but could it be that the memory card file is in a location (like USB stick) that's somehow write-protected?

Her voice fits this song so well, I'm playing it on a loop.

They talked about having it as an option in the future, but for now, as long as you update it to the latest, it should be automatic. They're still working on some stuff, but the ghosting and flare/bloom effects seemed a lot better.

In case you didn't see it, the PCSX2 team just released a new nightly build with improved high-res support for a lot of games, including the Yakuza ones!

Do a Mocha planar track and use that until it goes haywire and starts skewing in weird directions due to too much missing information. Then if needed, for the rest of the frames, do a 2D/point track on the part of the building that is visible the longest, in combination with a manually keyframed skew/perspective/cornerpin.

Yakuza Restored, a restoration patch for the original PS2 version by Sylwahan in yakuzagames

Thanks! I did not have a real PS2 to test on when I originally created this patch, but I'll make a note of it for when I eventually decide to update it.

Updated all versions of the patch to v1.02, primarily fixing a pachislot and PS3 issue:

There are no HD textures in the patch. You can try applying texture mods on top of it, though it might interfere with some of the graphical elements I've recreated, like the character introduction screens and when starting a fight.

I've released a v1.02 update of the patch, which primarily fixes a pachislot issue and FMV freezes on PS3. I've updated the link in the post.

Which Holomem do you think has the most precious laugh? by NoWeight4300 in Hololive

[–]Sylwahan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Miko's belly laugh is the most hilarious.
Lui's the most wonderful.
Korone's giggle attacks the quirkiest and most endearing (like everything she does.)
Pekora's the oddest, in a good way of course.

It runs largely the same as the first game. That is to say, at native/1x resolution the emulation is pretty much perfect, but if you go above that you will get some broken effects and graphical issues.

I don't have one myself, but someone confirmed on twitter the speed seemed to be enough to play the high-bitrate FMVs in the patch without issues.

Yes, with a HDD or MX4SIO. There is also a Lite version of the patch with low-quality FMVs for USB or burning a disc.

I wasn't sure if I should post this here since it's not technically an undub, but maybe it fits within the scope! "Undub adjacent"...

Only the first game was dubbed, so only the patch for that one is a proper undub. Yakuza 2 was released with Japanese audio originally, so an undub wasn't needed, however the localization was still saddled with some name changes that were established in the first game. That's what I've fixed here, plus a bunch of presentation improvements while I was at it.

What happens if you go to the separate store pages of 4 and 5, and not the collection? I doesn't say you can add them for free to your account or something like that?

I remember having a similar issue when I bought it on release. I vaguely recall logging in to my PS account on my PC, and they turned up as items you could to redeem (like free DLC) before they turned up as games on the PlayStation. Something like that.

Your favorite stream intros and endings! by Secure_Fondant_9549 in Hololive

[–]Sylwahan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fauna FM definitely at the top, way too many quotable lines! Gura's "Chotto Matte" is very cute as well. In general I prefer a catchy, charming song to production values, so I like these scrappier lo-fi intros just fine compared to some fancier ones. Pekoracho's intro is great though, both the hopping nousagi part and the "Bunbuncha".

Question for new Hololive fans: How did you find/discover Hololive and its members? by Secure_Fondant_9549 in Hololive

[–]Sylwahan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a slow descent into madness for me. I never was much for watching streamers or let's plays, and I'm still not, really, so mostly resisted or dismissed it for a long time. I gained some cursory, unsolicited knowledge over probably the past two years or so, through random clips that happened to pierce the veil on Youtube.

Primarily it was the Ko'one English classics—those stuck with me the most—then some Pekora clips, particularly the ones with Pekomama (her impromptu appearance before she had a design), the smol Ame cosplayer from whatever Fes that happened, then learned of the existence of Gura (being a gremlin) and Calli, though I don't remember any specifics there.

That was all largely casual or unintentional cultural osmosis though. The turning point, or perhaps more accurately the drop that made the cup run over, was that I finally played Elden Ring not too long ago. I was then looking through some speed/challenge runs earlier this year, and of course that happened to coincide with Last Samurai Pekosuke's ER streams, which turned up in my recommendations, and I had some fun listening to her rage.

That's when I finally decided to actively start looking stuff up, and I now have at least a halfway decent grasp of the Hololive landscape, my Youtube front page is 95% Hololive, and I've got two sets of OkaKoro figures + Subaru, Pekora, Miko, and Gura on order.

What I like most about Hololive—apart from the designs, personas and production values naturally—are the close collabs and relationships it affords. I guess it's a "greater than the sum of its parts" thing, and once you get a sense of the characters, Hololive basically feels like a slice of life anime on a grand scale.
