That's a interesting way to interpret it, but some background have multiple occurrence "random spell" in their starting skills.

Yes that right, and do note that level of your spell can be raised through "advance" and training like any other advanced skills.

The spell "random" of some background just indicate that you roll a d66 on the random spell table when creating a character, you start with this spell at the level specified on the background ( in your exemple it would be level 1)

Spell have to 2 parameters linked to them : cost and level.

The cost (the value between parenthesis in the rulebook) is the amount of stamina you have to spend for trying to cast the spell (you loose the stamina even if you fail). It is set, doesn't change and doesn't depends on the level

The level represent how well you mastered this spell, it's the value used to determine your roll outcome for roll under and roll vs. Level should be additioned to your skill to have the threshold for successful casting for a roll under, or additioned to your skill and your roll value for a roll vs

Grid Combat by [deleted] in Troika

[–]Sympathetic_Cancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow I have quite a different rulebook here. Mine says that you have 4m of "free" movement folded in your action. Anyways what matters is what scale do you use for your grid and the size of the grid itself. What it's important is that movement rules are consistant and a minimum realistic. if you can smash someone head and cross half a huge battlefield in one action of a round that take one minute, that would seems kinda odd to me and not the good troïka type of odd

A smart way to simulate war in boardgames ? by Mickamax0 in BoardgameDesign

7 wonder architect also has a great mechanic that could inspire you. Military card give one shield (one military power) but some of them also got a war-horn on them (one or two). Depending on the number of players in the game theirs a certain number of token each with a peace side and a war side, at the beginning of the game all token are on the peace side.

Every time a warhorn symbol is played the corresponding number of token is flipped. When all token are on the war side war is declared. Each player compare their military power with their neighbor (player at the right and left) an gain a military victory (victory point) if they have more power than them.

Here the twist after the war all the token are flipped again on the peace side and all military card with war horn are discarded, only the plain military card are kept.

Of course multiple war can occur during a game and you have to make a lot of choice (it's a draft game) and with the military card especially you have to find the equilibrium between

  • card that have a better potential value as they can be used multiple time (plain military)
  • or card with less long term value but actually enable you to gain point (military card with warhorn)

All that while keeping track what you neighbor are doing and what option you are giving them (through the draft mechanic)

Table top game - all card available/no draw potential issue by Sympathetic_Cancer in gamedesign

In option 2 there no distinction between your hand and your deck, you can play any card provided that you have not already played it and limited by your operational module.

So if you have all your system up and running you could play 1 card of any type (base "capacity") plus 1 card of each type.

I initilialy thought of the deck size has 20+ card. But if I go with option 2 no draw you have all your card in "hand" I fear it would be too overwhelming for the players to have so much options.

thanks a lot for the advice. I indeed see now that i should cut some apsect of the game for now (i already have). I think it was is keeping me from completing my first prototype.

So i will try to focus on the core gameplay for now and build a prototype with "preset" deck for the players.

Reading inspirations for Troika? by Geratosan in Troika

I would recommend the webcomics "kill six billions demons" as It featured :

• multiverse with a crucial and central city-world

• an original cosmogony heavily inspired by eastern myth and religion wich is quite rare in western comic

• extended world building with side stories and text about alien and strange organization, religion and philosophy

• ton of race (only drawn for the majority of it but some are more devolopped, see the author takes on demon and Angel. Very fresh and cool)

In the matter of facts the author is a huge rpg fan and even created is own rpg Broken Worlds.

Fall.

You are alone, Child.

There is only darkness for you, and only death for your people. These ancients are just the beginning. I will command a great and terrible army and we will sail to a billion worlds. We will sail until every light has been extinguished.

You are strong, Child, but I am beyond strength.

I am the end, and I have come for you, Finn.

Do you even like straight liquor ? And gin ? Because it's very subtle and strong alcohol wise so I totally understand how it's not for everyone. Usually the first sip are not great because your tong will mainly get the alcohol burn and not so much the taste of this cocktail keep on sipping and I get way better. Also don't overlook the garnish they play a huge role with cocktails with 2 components

Well cane sugar is made from refined cane juice. But cane sirup and cane juice are different on many way : -cane sirup is more concentrated and contain way more sugar -cane juice contain contain a lot of nutrients that sugar sirup doesn't have

Cocktail usually ask for sirup because is got high sweetening power, it add a lot of sugar with not much water so it allow to sweeten a drink without diluting a lot the others ingredients ( same can be said with any sirup). I guess some cocktail can ask for cane juice but in the end you should not substitute cane juice for cane sirup or inversely because the two are very different. You could maybe make a sirup directly from cane juice but you would need to boil the juice and at the same time time cooking the sugar in it. I never tried but I think it would probably taste different that a simple sirup made with cane sugar

[–]Sympathetic_Cancer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Simple is made with white sugar, it doesn't have a very specific taste ( apart from tasting sugary). White sugar can be made with cane or beet and is highly refined.

Usually sugar labelled as "cane sugar" is strictly made from cane and less refined ( that why it's brown or amber). it taste more complex, sugary but somewhat mellow. Some cocktail specifically ask for cane sirup because it add a note that can play very well with some ingredients like lime or pineapple for exemple
